Shadow Priest in Classic

Hi all I would like to know if shadow priest is viable/good in classic. I want to try the new fresh server because I never had the chance to play classic years ago. I am planning to play only as DPS because I don’t like healing and most PVE stuff like dungeon and raids. Ty

Only holy dwarf priest was viable in classic. (Dwarf for fear ward.)

If you are going to focus just on PvP, then yeah, pick Spriest… They are really OP in PvP. How they are doong in TBC, dunno really, maybe try to google it ^^.

But prepare to go holy if you decide you wanna do a few raids, cuz nobody will take a Spriest…

It’s really a shame you can’t play Spriest in raids, i like them

theres an ok chance for you to be able to play shadow if you farm your gear early and get into a guild. it’s not a bad spec dps wise (and they buff locks), just healers are more in demand.

So there is actually a chance I can play as shadow in PVE/raids?

You will most likely be asked to heal from time to time. Shadow spec in Classic is … meh!! Cost to much mana and do to little dps.
Most raids won’t even allow you to dot the bosses due to the debuff limit.

you can raid as shadow. ignore the other ppl. shadow is actually good on dps. there are mana problems but it’s not a problem on most fights with consumes, and you can toss offheals if necessary on the odd fight.

I reallyyyyyy want to play Shadow so a good profession would be alchemy+herbalism?

i recommend atleast taking eng. its not only good if you decide to pvp but also having access to things like goblin sapper charges and repair bot can significantly increase your odds of being invited to and contributing to the raid.

enchanting can also be nice if you’re willing to invest alot of time into your character so you can get formulas. it can take alot from you to level it but once you do you’ll begin making alot of money and its another reason for your guildies to love you

They will probably ask you to heal or you won’t be invited most of the time, unless you’re a dwarf.

Going to give you the real advice, most of the replies here are misinformation.

You can raid as shadow but you’ve gotta find a guild for it, there’s only one slot available for a shadow in the entire 40man roster so its incredibly niche.

You will not be given priority gear since it goes to mages/locks first.

You will not have good dps ( don’t trust what other people here say), depending on the debuff limit you might only be allowed to use 1 dot and mainblast, flay and other debuffs take up debuff slots and won’t be allowed.

A lot of times you’ll be downranking spells, like r1 pain just to get shadoweaving up fast. You will oom consistently and wand /use pots a lot. That is what its like raiding as shadow.

In dungeons you are bottom of the barrel and often not invited as other classes just do better. You’ll be asked to join as a healer most often than not.

Pvp: shadow is great in 1v1 scenarios. However it isn’t good on bg formats.

1- you obviously oom too fast /mid fight.
2- most bg premades dont want a shadow since there are better options.

Usually on horde priests are delegated to the healer slot due to being the only defensive dispeller and best healer, shamans will be ele and purging so shadow’s slot is taken.

On alliance its the opposite, palas fill the defensive healer role while priest fills ele’s offensive dispel shoes. This is why there are higher odds of finding a slot in bg premades as alliance than horde for shadow.

But that’s only if u want to rank, if its casual pvp then u can ignore the premade portion above.

With the new PvP Honor system it will be much easier to obtain the PvP items so Shadow Priest should be much more viable then it was back in 2019. Not sure, but think you need rank 10 to get the set.

For professions eng/Mining or Alch/Herb.

U wot m8?/10char

Hmm. 10chars

Vegetarian seems to be only author who thinks that shadow is viable in pve tho.

No, lol.
Most R14 priests are Night Elves and so many Nelf are BIS PVE in SW.

Hello! R14 Shadowpriest with Naxx gear here.

In PVE, we are horrible. Most people don’t want you in a raid, unless it’s GDKP, and you’re a buyer. We also go OOM all the time and despite doing our best, we’re always low dps compared to others. Even if you have BIS gear, all the mana pots in the world, you’ll never be happy as Spriest in high end PVE. Classic has some serious design flaws. However, if you wanna play Spriest in 20-man raids, dungeons, and leveling, it is fine.

In PVP, we truly shine, having counters to almost every other spec in the game. In fact, the most OP specs like Warriors and Rogues will be afraid of you. Contrary to popular belief, all races are viable and bring something unique, it all depends on your playstyle.

You can play shadow if blizzard increases the debuff cap from 16, if they don’t it’s barely possible to play as your rotation is entirely debuffs.

IF the debuff cap is removed, you will just need to chug mana pots and dark runes, probably playable with modern boss kill times. Your DPS will be “ok” in that case.
