Hello there folks, the alpha was updated with what seems to be part of the Shadowlands pre-patch event, with something which will no doubt be both great and disappointing for a lot of y’all :
Nathanos will seemingly be some kind of World Boss in the pre-patch and can be found near his house along with his two pets from vanilla Plaguefrang and Blight-Howl. That’s the good part.
Now the disappointing bit is that we don’t actually kill him, he throws the usual WoW Vilain “ENOUGH, I grow tired of this” and teleport at low health. But we may kill him later on in a questline or instance.
All we know for now is that he's a open world boss with the following datamined lines

world boss as quest? Well i dont like the character but not gonna lie nathanos should deserve at least dungeon boss level promotion to be killed. Kinda offensive any otherway since he is second main stage of the story.
How about garrosh tho? Like ye, we killed him in Soo as last boss, but then in wod we just found him in nagrand minding his own business, we attack him, and afaik we dont even kill him, he dies in cutscene.
So nathanos having his own questline, becoming worldboss and be main part ( from what we know) of pre patch event aint that bad imo.
well not saying is like science but in general most prestige characters fighting us get dungeon boss at least and the most prestige and powerfull get raid boss status.
Yeah but considering the story wouldn’t killing him just send him to the maw though? We are likely to still see him in Shadowlands then. Either inside inside the maw or alongside Sylvanas as she could likely just ask the Jailor to set Nathanos free.
Azshara survived two raid encounters (well, as a spectator for the second one) and will most likely be a main character in either SL or the next xpack. Looks like Sylvanas will follow a similar path, driving the plot forward altho not as successfully as Blizzard may think
Would be nice to not have yet a fourth sylvanas xpack in a row. 3 is already more than enough
Don’t think there was anything about the loot tables or the quest rewards yet

and probably get pulled out of the pits by his waifu.
a quick chin scritch from her later, and she will send him off to do stuff and we will probably find him in one of the dungeons, playing at being the boss.
just hope you get to kill him in a raid after the main part is done. maybe he will be a pre-boss to sylvanas herself, and die befor she does. if you are lucky. very lucky…but i doubt it, unless the guys rl version leaves the company, no ones self insert gets kicked to the curb
