Shadowlands: Watch the Eternity’s End Developer Preview

they need to take a few notes from gw2 on zone design.

But wouldn’t that be weird?

You arrive on this alien land with creatures that you’ve never seen before. You don’t speak their language, you don’t have their favor, and you don’t have a basis of operation for fighting The Jailer.

That’s a usual setup in WoW. And Blizzard always paces it, because that’s how you tell a story. Time is part of that story. It takes time to build trust with the natives. It takes time to set up a base. It takes time to advance on the enemy. And so on.

That’s basic storytelling in an MMORPG. The passing of time is supposed to convey the sense that you’re making slow progression toward ultimately defeating the bad guy, be that in Quel’thalas to defeat Kil’Jaeden, The Molten Front to defeat Ragnaros, or in Argus to defeat The Burning Legion, or here in Zereth Mortis to defeat The Jailer.

That’s how it’s always been. Time matters.

Imagine any of the above without any restrictions to the pace of progression. It would undermine the gameplay design completely if you could just blast through it all in 1 day by no-lifing. That’s not what MMORPG gameplay is about.

If that’s yours and others expectation, and reason for opposing “timegating”, then you’re honestly misunderstanding the gameplay design of World of Warcraft and an MMORPG in general.

Wow, a new system. Finally.

Anyways, as long as i don’t have to farm rep to get conduits upgrades or sockets i don’t mind a new zone. Ultimately this has always been the purpose of a new patch.

Theres a difference between having the option to no life it and physically being forced to slow down your progression time. Take wrath for example, you had dailies that were technically locked behind the daily cap. But you had little to no player power associated with it. You time gate content that restricts the flow of my character, then i’m gonna be upset.

So disappointed.

I’m done.

Good luck, Blizzard.

Totally disagree with you here.
Rep grind are fine! Hard rep grinds are fine.
They just need to make it OPTIONAL. That’s the big thing.
It should be a rep grind to unlock world content stuff for people who like doing such content. Raiders should just go and raid. M+ people should just do that. PvPers should PvP.

Asking for no dailies to be there and no rep grind is selfish. It’s like asking for Battleground to not exist just because you don’t like them. There are plenty of people who like grinds and dailies and such. They just need to be optional and not needed to do the other content; then it’s absolutely fine there’s grinds.

i feel like there was a disconnection between the concept art and the outcome… cause the concept art they show’d actually look pretty cool.

Well, get a cookie then  I personally don;'t mind time gating, but I prefer more content per time. I personally didn’t have any issue with renown, I only had issues with legendaries and those insane prices (at least on my server when I needed them).

Can’t please everyone, since we all have different tastes.

And I’d recommend not to get too upset over a game, there’s more sh** going on in real life that is worth getting upset about, not a PC game mate.

What is weird to me is for this to happen and I learn one word of a language, then I have to wait a week or two or three or whatever time they say before I can carry on.

Ishayo summed it up perfectly for me.

But what if it is

I truly believe that they can make fun stuff in the world that can keep people playing, I mean if the story is great I would take alts through it, have done so in the past.

It remains to be seen how this will pan out, whether it is a super awesome questchain with lots of side stuff to keep people interested, or another rep grind.

Look; I couldn’t care less.
I think WoW would be better without PvP in it. :man_shrugging:t4:

But yeah; probably sucks to be them. I guess.

and casuals…

all that will be left is go go push raiders…

not the community i want.

If you see the zone seperated it looks good. At least not another grey Maw zone.

But for a realm where

Its denizens—the automa—have created all that exists in the Shadowlands, Azeroth, and realms beyond

it looks extremely disappointing. Like the typical fantasy world with the floating trees/islands/objects and a small desert area.
They could have made so much out of a zone made by ultra gods or whatever the first ones are supposed to be.

At least the sky could look like it’s really a realm you can’t just casually drop by instead of a bright cloudless sky.

What makes you say that? It seems that the patch will include quite some world content and such.

This is a general problem with making ‘high concept’ fantasy stuff.
The whole of Shadowlands suffers from this problem. It just does not measure up to people’s imagination.

i think they are running out of ideas…

did you also pick up on the tone of voice used when the guy said

“and a few dreadlords you gotta tie loose ends with”

it was like he knew it was filler because they couldnt think of anything better…

pets and mounts???

and a dance game ?

should i be excited about that?

I want to be excited, but all I see is an awful storyline and systems designed to suck up our time in an attempt to divert us from the awful storyline. Still, this expansion has at least succeeded in making one of the worst villains in video game history with the Jailer. That’s something at least…

There is no point in mentioning them when they have nothing for them. I secretly hoped for one bg and arena. Ofc nothing :joy:

dudes if you have a problem with it, just, make a guild for one faction only. would be nice to have cross factions
