Should I level 1 - 60 classic or tbc?

I never really got a chance to play classic wow when I was younger and classic was announced I said to myself I’d level to 60 then call it quits, I only really made it to level 34 before I moved on to other things.

I came back and started a new character trying once again to get into it but slowly started to lose interest again until now. Now I’m seeing we have to choose what type of server to stay on and that the choice is a one time only thing, so I am wondering if I should level in TBC or stay on Classic?

I imagine the community will mostly move to TBC and might return to classic later? I’ve no real interest in raiding, might do a few dungeons. Should I level my character in TBC or stay with Classic?

If I move to TBC what will change other than abilities and the level cap?
I hear leveling between 1 - 60 is faster? I am all for a quicker levelling experience due to my limited play time these days but only if it’s slightly faster not if it’s stupidly fast that I’ll not really be getting that classic experience.

Is there anything I should be aware of before making this choice?

WoW is not for you, just find something else that interests you and do that instead. You have no interest in raiding or dungeons,so why even play really. You havent mentioned pvp so i guess thats also out

Leveling is part that most just want to do quickly as possible so you finding people to group up and do it normally is really low.

1 - 60 is faster on TBCC so i would recomend you to lvl there BUT (not 100% sure about this), if you descied to lvl 1-60 in Classic you need to be prepared to spend 25 euro for transfer you char to TBCC if you wish to continue there

Can i suggest that you join us on the reroll instead? If you just want to enjoy the leveling in wow why not do i with other people here to enjoy it too together?

However we will not move over to TBC servers if thats what youre looking for.

I despise raiding and PvP and rarely do dungeons, yet I haven’t let my sub lapse since Classic launched and I play regularly and solely for the leveling experience, so what you are saying is opinion and not fact.

That been said… @Iciclevendor The leveling experience in TBC is faster due to buffed XP as well as a bunch of new quests been added, so you will grind far less. On the negative side, most of the outdoor elites (e.g. Jintha Alor, Silithus hives etc) are no longer elite, which actually takes away from the experience. I may not do group stuff regularly, but it’s always fun to get together with a bunch of people in your zone and do those elite quests. Also, getting the mount is much cheaper and can be done sooner, which kind of takes away from the sense of satisfaction you get from obtaining it.

That been said, it all depends on what you want to do. If you simply enjoy leveling like me, both Classic and TBC are good, I’m enjoying the experience in both versions. If you enjoy dungeons, you’d be better off in TBC I think due to heroic dungeons existing for endgame. For raids, I’m far from an ideal person to advise you - but as an outside person looking in, TBC seems like a better deal due to no world buffs, less consumable stacking, and smaller raid groups (which could also be seen as a negative though).

Thanks for your suggestion, I’ll keep it in mind!

This was the part I was not sure about. I’d love to keep it classic but don’t really want ot pay the transfer fee, eventually I will want to hit 70 if i hit 60, then after that Wrath is likely to come out so again I’d like to be ready for that. Maybe I’ll just have to level two characters one in each zone I won’t give Blizzard any more money.

It is a game for community after all, I might consider it as I’m already on that server.

I’m not a huge fan of PvP or raiding, dungeons I like, smaller and easier to organise but still dangerous if you’re not careful.

Ultimately it seems more like i should go for TBC for the same of respecting my time but yes i would say it doesn’t feel properly ‘classic’ if it’s altering other things like elite quests and whatnot. I think my best bet is to level a new toon on Classic and move my current highest level character to TBC or something.

That sounds like the best solution to me. I’ve moved almost all my characters to TBC but I will be playing on HW Classic again, leveling new characters from scratch. Definitely a “Why not both?” case

Classic Vanilla is dead. No new content so very few people having reason to play there. People cloned some of their characters to Classic Era realms “just in case” Blizzard adds something there (there was a survey).

If you want to play with people then go with TBC Era realms - just note that there will be much less to little interest in level 60 content as people will just move to Outland as they level instead of stopping.

Some leveling elites are now non-elite also you need less experience to reach level 60.

From my personal, historical experience.

I recommend BC. Classes and abilities are essentially the same. Talent trees mildly tweaked, outliers fixed. Leveling as a healer / tank seems to be a little faster (my resto druid for sure). Better chances at finding parties. Many elite zones changed to normals, so you can better finish storylines. You can solo/duo dungeons and play raids reasonably well.

If you decide for 1.x Classic, you’ll be stuck there forever - no further options to move on.

I see a risk that the 1.x community will be very small and it will be a struggle to find group content. Solo content isn’t much different, but there are more quests, options.
I’ve been playing on Mirage Raceway and I have had trouble two months after the launch with doing anything.

On top of that, I can see a case where you would want to fool around in a specific expansion (without outleveling it; due to overpopulation / farming I effectively stopped my mage at level 50 content). Or, assuming the same question will be posed in 2 years, I might decide to leave some characters on BC so that I can reroll them with their historic WLK races. My Classic blood elves are human. Sure, I know the future and I’m not a fan of going horde.

The only big question mark with rerolling for me is losing professions and reputations.

Did you just make something up? Where did you get that sum from?

Sorry should have pointed out that the sum was just a guess…

You can’t level a new character on classic and move to TBC. The character would be stuck on classic forever.
