I’ve exclusively played retail since cataclysm and with each new expansion (aside from legion) been loosing interest in the direction in which the game is going, i’m holding out hope for the war within but from what ive seen my hopes arent high.
I really want a more slower, immersive wow experience so my obvious choice would be vanilla but upon loading up classic im met with a choice between season of discovery or classic era. i would just like to know which one would be best suited for me because im worried i maybe too late for SoD.
do you know the player base is like on classic era in terms of population, are people even still leveling on there, i was worried that id come to do the deadmines or another low level dungeon and have no body in the area to run with
People are still levelling in Era - mostly alts obviously. But dungeon runs are still going, although joining a levelling guild will probably make it easier to find people.
i think i might do that then just have a good slow level on a classic era server, the thing that was putting me off as well was the fact that does anyone know what happens to SoD characters after phase 4?
There is a 3rd option - a permanent server for SoD characters to keep all their runes and OP gear.
Don’t worry about leveling in Era. I started this character just to keep my forum posts from my WOTLK character that got transferred to another server. Finding group for Deadmines on a Thursday evening was very easy. I made 2 runs and many more groups were posting in the LFG and guild chat. I can’t wait to see whether there will be groups for the Stockade.
Are there any SOD specific items? (I dont play SOD so I dont know)
I don’t think item removal is needed, since they are probably not very usefull for lvl 85 anymore.
There will more than likely be a SoD “Era” that remains. It will allow people to both keep their characters and level new ones. They even hinted about it in one of the developer streams I happened to watch, something along the lines of “we aren’t sure what we are going to do after the season but we will have a way so that you keep all of your progress”. I would take that statement as including gear, items, money etc etc.
Thinking the characters will be transferred to a completely different version of the game because they were in SoM is more than a little off, very unlikely. There was no new content developed for SoM which is a big difference and effectively makes SoD a whole new version of the game, SoM was vanilla/classic.
If you your friends are not playing the game and you don’t have a guild that will carry you through low level content to get your skill runes and make you viable - stay away from sod.
