Blizzard… Retcon… NEVAH
As much as people love Metzen… He’s not exactly the beacon of writing as seen with Thrall, Medan, Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2.
Correction: he is good at writing world, bad at narrative
I see no reason to dwell in the past. It happened, and it was inevitable, the direction wow was going for years before it, but fortunatly devs finally learned from it, and things took a turn for the better because of it. I say leave it as is, if nothing else, then as a reminder of what happens when devs don’t listen.
Don’t erase the past, learn from it.
The afterlife lore was fine and since we don’t need to visit them again it can just be as is but the first ones and the Eternal ones turned into constructs is a problem.
Mmmh no, I would let it be what it is.
And then go for a big reset after the World Soul Saga.
Then it doesn’t matter what any of the lore was.
It’s already happened. It’s been and gone. Accept that and move on, hopefully aside from Sylvanas appearing in the future, we will not have to think of that place again.
Instead of erasing and pretending it never happened, It’s best to do some damn good future writing and storytelling, one that makes Zovaal’s reasons and motivations relevant (As well as his behavior throughout the expansion, which he hints he knows of a very big threat to come, but he didn’t tell anyone ever…not even his brothers during his trial.)
I wouldnt mind erasing the memory of nascaring around Oribos for hours and hours
Aside from anduin being in the state that he is rn because OF WHAT HAPPENED IN SHADOWLANDS.
People do prefer to pretend being dumb, aren’t they
Oh yes, I forgot about that. The lore didn’t bother me, it was just the ending that disappointed me and if this had been the plan all along rather than a retcon, it would have been done infinitely better.
They did Arthas and Garrosh dirty.
That they did, fake Souldefiler, that they did.
I would have loved to have interacted with Maw bound Arthas, see if he had any regret etc have a mini redemption arc for Arthas Menethil a bit like Anakin Skywalker had from Vader. But no we just stick him in a sword then poof.
Garrosh I don’t care for but his ending was… pointless, his entire presence in that expansion seemed pointless, compared to say Kael’thas Sunstrider.
The Arthas lore was what ruined it for me. The Kyrian lore was nice and all but them not making them be playable after getting exalted was bad. Also Arthas should had been ressurected and brought back to Azeroth to help rebuild it and regain the forsaken and humans and dwarves and elves’s trust after what Ner’zhul made him do!
Classic human deffense
“The Orc’s spirit made me to do it! I’m innocent!”
He went the full nine yard and become a villain and it was cool
No need to find excuses
With all fairness, he would be in such state if he would have stepped on a butterfly
When he went missing and on a field trip to the friggin Broken Shores full of demons he wasn’t in better shape either
The kid is simply fragile and borderline insane
Never thought I’d say this but at least in Shadowlands we could laugh or grieve (depends on your preference) about the clownfiesta that happend there. Here in DF? Nothing…Zip…never thought I’d miss SL but now I actually do…and hells…those hp numbers going trough the roof again…eewww
Too much important story happened, even if a lot of it was bad. Characters like Anduin, Sylvanas and a bunch others are now way different because of what happened in Shadowlands.
Nah it’s the lore ner’zhul used frostmourne to bind him to his will like how the shadowmourne did it to darion in the quest
I’ll have you know that for whatever reason the first cutscene that played when I logged into TWW was one from the Jailer.
I don’t know why, but knowing nothing I groaned.
One thing that I will retcon is the concept of anima and all the implications that comes with soul destructions that turns Shadowlands into a Second Life (pun intended) instead of an After Life.
I know that was required for gameplay purposes because we need to be able to kill things and having bosses who are eternal and inmortal souls won’t work in a game like this, but I don’t like the terrorific impications that comes with soul destruction.
And for some reason no lore character seems to care about it, wich make me think that SL writers were trully awfull writers for not realizing the implication of their own lore changes.
In RL any religious person would be terrified if they found that after life works like this because the implications is that atheits are right! The only difference between the death in WOW and the death an atheist would believe is that people in WOW has two lives, one in Azeroth and a second one in Shadowlands.
That is why Shadowlands Anima makes no sense.
