We are done multiple months of Shadowlands Season 1 and I bet there are a lot of players who can’t figure out how to use their excess honor points after upgrading their pvp item’s ilvl.
Some buy mark of honor to get transmog, some buy honor gear to sell or disenchant and some just keep the resource capped as they cba to do any of these suboptimal choices.
Now that they have included Valor Points and option to buy satchel of ore with them, should they bring something like that to be buyable with honor points? The price could be high, but it would be just lovely to be able to use the resource for something meaningful or at least get some money from it.
I know plenty of players who mainly focus on pvp aspect of this game and therefore is constantly capped. They are (myself included) frustrated how honor points are currently used and how meaningless the currency is after couple of hours of playing pvp.
So, can we get some professions satchels OR just something to spent our honor points? The possibility of making some gold while playing bg’s would be enough, so it doesn’t need to be anything special.
Well the Honor currency is just the deterministic form of the item you loot from a boss in a Dungeon.
And just as you can loot every item from all the Dungeons and not need any of that loot anymore, so can you also buy all the Aspirant items with Honor and not need any of those anymore either.
So it’s completely natural that Honor becomes obsolete, because the comparative equivalent is Heroic and Mythic0 Dungeons, and they too become obsolete after a while.
I think it’s fine that the ability buy Marks of Honor exists. Beyond that you can always buy Aspirant items and vendor them for gold or disenchant them for materials.
I don’t think Honor needs to be some universally useful currency. It’s a stepping-stone, like Heroic Dungeons are a stepping-stone.
We’re already being showered with resources between the command table and a lot of soulbinds giving satchels/bags of resources when you kill some mobs.
You can still gain money and straight out epics from them. Also you continue gaining honor while doing your main activity (and pvp doesn’t give out money in a sense that pve does) so I think it would be logical to give something to spent those points. Even with really high cost.
I can see where you are coming from and I think you can’t just straight compare mythic0’s and honor as they function really differently. There is also a lot of players who continue playing random bg’s and other forms of pvp even after getting the gear, but I guess players don’t really do heroics/mythic0 after they can’t anything from there.
I just find it odd as in earlier expansions there were stuff to do with honor, but in this expansion there is nothing like those.
I would personally be in favor of adding Feast of Ribs and PvP Bandages and PvP Potions (health, mana, speed, etc.) onto a vendor that can be bought with Honor. You know, stuff that has value in Random Battlegrounds and which can only be used there.
Some of it is still available in obscure areas of the game for Marks of Honor, but I wouldn’t mind if it was directly purchasable in Oribos for Honor.
In Battle for Azeroth you got that stuff from the loot bags often. So a vendor version for Shadowlands seems appropriate.
But I don’t think Honor should be a currency that maintains an infinite high value. It’s okay if it decreases in value once you’ve acquired all the Aspirant items.
Seems to be as complicated as reading the first post.
Well as I understand your PoV I think this is pretty good suggestion for the problem I have. I would still prefer satchels but I could settle for this.
TBH I don’t see the issue in adding a generic material bag (ie ores, skins etc) purchasable with honor so long as the price is high (so it’s clearly intended for those whom have no use for honor rather than being an effective way to farm resources)
Or a way of “sending honor” to alts. Ie You pay 10000 honor for a BOA box which awards the opener like 2k honor. A really terrible ratio but a great way for a pvper with nothing left to grind to help an alt get started out. That or the box contains 2-3 random 155 honor pieces, again for the same purpose.
I mean literally sending honor to alts like you could with war resources in BFA via a negatively correlating ration (you pay 10k honor to give another char 2k honor).
Tbh the argument of “but the char must do the thing to get the gear” got blown up when the M+ KSM achis are account-wide, so lowbie alts of KSM mains can upgrade their gear to 220 by spamming low level dungeons.
Yes, it may be time-consuming as to be unrealistic, exactly like how gearing up a char with a ratio of 5 honor paid to 1 gained would be time-consuming and unrealistic as well - but it would make for a nice starting point (as does the account-wide KSM achi).
Atm there is a huge difference between having zero pvp gear and even a full set at 158. Yes the 158 set ain’t all that versus 220 folks (different issue) but it makes your contributions vastly more superior than having the random 130-148 gear you have when levelling which isn’t optimised for pvp and would allow these alts to dodge the high initial costs of the gear (where the price is) and focus on the cheaper initial upgrades of rank ups (up to about 184 when the cost begins to get really high)
There are already several ways to spend excess honor: disenchanting honor items, vendoring honor items, marks of honor to buy mogs or bg pots and feasts.
Fine I got your point. I find the process kinda clunky and therefore it feels that that it is something that can be done, but it wasn’t planned to be used like that. Otherwise you could just trade honor for gold. Psychologically it doesn’t feel right and rewarding (for me at least) even though I think it should.
but fair, you can change honor to gold with horrible ratio and a bit of menial work.
You find the current system good enough as I want it to be changed. Do you have anything AGAINST it to add satchel / other straight way to use honor? If yes, why and what? If not, then kudos to you, you are happy rn and don’t mind if it’s changed or not. I’m still longing for change though.
Well if you want to nitpick, I guess I can also do it for you:
3 months for 15k while playing a lot (as it’s main)
3 years to get way more than 15k (as you need way more to get gear and upgrades) while playing way less (as it’s your alt)
It was just hyperbole to make a point, not a real argument
