Just very poor map design with all these silly NPC’s that also force people to play AV because of all the bonus honor.
If you sit and watch the route the alliance take it’s basically like old AV for them with the exception of a few groups of horde mobs and even then the NPCs reset. Meanwhile the alliance NPCs will shoot you from half way across the map and even break you from stealth.
The other day I seen a lvl 53 ally rogue cap both towers in the base and freely roamed around for about 5-10 mins. At level 60 with full stealth talents the lvl 61 NPCs in the alliance base will see you from a good distance away and kill you in a few seconds. At lvl 53 you wouldn’t even make it across the bridge without the NPCs tagging you.
They also fixed things like the backdoor jump at the ally base, but didn’t fix the wall jump on the horde base that allows players to freely pass about 2 groups of NPCs.
It’s so bad I’m honestly not surprised that people just afk & play to lose. Winning is possible, but who can be bothered trying to coordinate 40 players every game and still lose half the time anyway due to the shear unbalanced map design.
I also think nothing will change now. SOM is already an afterthought for Blizz. They got their subs and made a bit of fast cash. You have multiple dead servers that could be merged & a hugely unbalanced mess on the most popular servers. They haven’t even bothered fixing the LFG tool in like 2 weeks, haven’t even acknowledged it I might add.
PVE content is also a problem and will further widen the gear gap between the remaining players on each faction due to alliance having a much easier time in raids. This will become much more apparent when BWL is released.
They’ll probably add same faction BGs when Alliance queue’s hit 45-60 mins due to dwindling horde populations.
They won’t change it because Alliance is the majority faction now. Just like they are not trying to do anything about people finding ways to pre made once again while in Classic they made changes to stop it and even made further changes EXTREMELY fast (for Blizzard) once players found a work around to pre made AV.
AV has always been an Alliance favoured map when it comes to rushing there’s no doubt about that which is why Horde had to turtle to win and hold IBGY and proceed to hold the SHGY choke in Classic which as most will remember often caused 1 hour+ games.
The difference is that during Classic Horde had 45+ min queues so doing this tactic made sense but if you have instant queues is it really worth dragging a game out for over an hour? Not from an H/PH pov and even if Horde wanted to turtle having all these mobs in the middle makes it extremely hard as you are often locked in combat so if you get dismounted it’s hard to stop Alliance rushing past.
But as I said it makes no sense for Horde to turtle so even without those mobs Alliance would still have a similar win percentage. Which is what I said during Classic it mainly comes down to queue times those with the shorter queues will have more leechers and botters. Sadly the Vanilla PvP system was deeply flawed and it actually promotes losing fast for the faction with instant queues.
AV changed in SOM, they added back many NPC and it make the Alliance fortress very hard to pierce now.
Meanwhile, the Horde base is still easy as before to rush. Just use your mount and autorun.
And this time, Alliance dominate all server in population, so they have long queue time, meaning more willingness to win, while Horde is underpopulated with instant AV tag. It seem terrible.
Even in original Classic, Alliance were winning in the first 2 months. Until Horde changed the meta with a different strategy, and Alliance refused to answer it with a counter.
This SoM AV we have is closer to how it was in Vanilla. Alliance NPCs are out there, bogging down the Horde.
Whilst Horde NPCs are out there picking Peacebloom.
And let’s not get into the debate about all of the Horde base being passable, and Dun Baldar has a bridge to get past…
The reason why horde loses is because they have instant queue.
Meanwhile the alliance try to extend the BG as much as possible (For example summon Ivus, 3 gryphons etc) for more honor cus of a 45min/1 hour queue. Solo players don’t bother AB/WSG cus of premades.
Best way to farm honor for the alliance is to delay AV try to get as much honor as possible and farm in the open world in between queues if you don’t want to join a premade that is.
Horde got the same problem Alliance had in Classic Van. Instant queue, having a 30min+ game demotivates so much because it’s more efficient to just do quick wins. Meanwhile all alliance recall when horde get into our base cus we know it breaks their will to even participate when they fail on Marshals and we simply retake Aid Station.
Last game we camped horde @ cave so we could summon Ram riders/Ivus and 3 birds I had a blast.
Also keep in mind that most horde went alliance this time, and most alliance went horde.
They just didn’t know what they were doing.
They obviously just lacked motivated (&) coordinated bg group.
Of course the additional NPCs just highlight it.
All they had to do was to move hordes start point. Instead they screwed horde so hard. I have to laugh at how blizzard is “fixing” things in this game

Yes, you joined a pre made or was lucky enough to get in with one and stomped a Horde PuG most likely consisting of 20% of the team being 50-55 and the rest in blues/greens - congratulations I guess. Personally I can’t say I’ve ever found it “fun” to stomp pugs even when I ranked in Classic with a pre made it was just a means to an end - the fun games was always the close games between pre mades which in all honesty didn’t happen often as most teams would throw in the towel after BS cap or first flag cap in WSG but when they did that was a fun challenge - to each his own.
Do you know why you were able to camp horde?
Because there are 20 ppl rank10-13 premade in every game after 1am, or at least 10 ppl in 80% of the games
When there are no premades in Alliance team the win ratio is 50/50
When horde premades they win in 15 mins (few days ago we won in 12mins, me as a solo Q)
And everyone in their minds knows that it is a premade when they cave camp with 20ppl using sappers at the same time lol
I can calm you down my friend. Over the course of this weekend, Alliance suddenly developed new tech and is now deffing Stonehearth and tapping Snowfall. Happened to me the past 5 BG invites.
You will soon get your wins. Just be patient till everyone heard of this new strat.
