I’m not going down any route. I’m merely saying that it does not reflect well on the company that they’re calling a customer and fan an ***hole. That is not professional, no matter what context it is said in.
People will latch onto it, and it will be wielded against Blizzard.
And because it is Asmongold, it will not go down quietly or be forgotten anytime soon.
And that is not the kind of publicity and talking you want surrounding yourself if you’re Blizzard.
It’s just bad all-around.
It’s early morning here, so we’re late to catch on. But the US are having a field day already, so…
It’s not Blizzards fault that people can’t see any difference between a company and a person. People just need to grow up and realize that people can have personal opinions.
Oh so, as someone that plays a void elf do you in fact speak for all void elves as well or maybe the more apt term is every WoW player because you happen to play this game? So I can say that this entire game community called me an X because you said it?
Then go after Asmon, he’s said it hundreds of times in regards to the Devs.
I think it’s great publicity to talk back to a content creator that’s bad for the game. I do hope the FFXIV team takes action whenever he does something bad again, like his transphobic tweets.
I’d like to remind you, that Asmon owns an Organization himself.
When I was an MVP I once made a few troll posts for the heck of it, and the morning afterward Blizzard had sent me an email that I would describe as the biggest virtual spanking I have ever recieved in my life, really laying down the law about proper conduct.
So whilst we may say that this doesn’t really matter and who honestly cares, I can guarantee you that Blizzard cares.
Remember the Corpse Grinder incident at Blizzcon where Mike Morhaime had to apologize afterward because what was said clearly didn’t reflect well on Blizzard?
This kind of stuff does not go down well. It never does. It never has.
You guys need to stop feeling attacked (even though yeah, it wasn’t worded nicely…), this is objectively correct in the industry, the biggest and most successful games right now have younger audiences and Blizzard would absolutely throw it’s current older playerbase under the bus for that kind of success.
Luckily they practically can’t and games can have niches.
Yeah you and I can say that, just as I can call you a prick if I want, because we don’t have a professional relationship with each other so anything goes.
But between a customer and a company there is clearly a different standard, a different expectation, and a different conduct and etiquette that is expected.
It doesn’t matter if it’s my bank that insists on calling me Sir, or my local bus driver who always greets me with a good morning even though he clearly doesn’t think it’s a good morning, or the 16 year old employee in the supermarket who always says “Have a nice day.”
That is the standard. You’re obviously deviating from that standard if you call any of your customers an ***hole. And it doesn’t matter if you and I personally agree that the person might be an ***hole, the company still has to stick to proper conduct. That is rule nr. 1.
Honestly thats what i mean with it wasn’t worded nicely, i’m myself not sure if the meaning behind his words was personal (in that case im with you) or if he meant the relevance as a consumer.
Doesn’t matter. It still ends up being a problem for Blizzard, as it evidently is turning into now.
When I started at my current work and my previous work, part of the introduction included simple media training which basically boiled down to the guy from PR stressing that if you wanted to say something in public, then go to PR first!
We have online courses that we have to painstakingly go through every 6 months or so that basically serve to drill into our heads how to conduct ourselves on social media when representing the company in any capacity.
Clearly not considering Lore, Roux, and many other Blizz staff who have said such things on twitter are still working there. <3 Have a nice one, since it’s very clear what type of poster you are.
If you think Blizzard have been happy about the statements by Roux, then I don’t know what to say. Again, by the community reaction, it clearly does not reflect well on the company. They would prefer to be without. There’s nothing good to be had from it. And it’s the same in the current situation. The comment does nothing good for the company. They would prefer to be without it. That’s why they have a PR department to handle the way the company presents itself publically.
Unfortunately quite a few members of Blizzard staff did back up her comments, thereby indicating that they’re kind of OK with racism and sexism.
Normally I’d go “Ehh, Author goes Rogue, That’s a -them- problem” But Blizzard staff did actually back her up after her…unpleasant views were made public. So it seems Blizzard are indeed happy with Roux’s statements, and like blazing idiots have now went “Sexism and Racism are OK kids! As long as it is the right -kind- of Sexism and Racism!”
