I’ve been watching Asmon for a few years now and I haven’t seen him smile and enjoy WoW for a while like he did when playing FF14 yesterday.
There is a difference between the opinions of different individuals and the desired PR for a company.
When I go to McDonald’s the staff is super professional every time, but that does not mean McDonald’s can keep a tight reign on whatever all its employees are doing on social media. Stuff slips out, but the company would prefer if it didn’t.
Why do you think WoW developers don’t communicate with the playerbase very much? Why aren’t the designers on the forums every day? Why do Blizzard’s PR team keep such a tight hold over the company’s public communication? And why do they increasingly stick to professionally-written news articles and press statements and lawyer talk by Ion?
It’s to avoid something like this!
Anyway, said enough on this I think.
To be honest, the main message out of Asmongold has been to go and explore other games because many by now offer more enjoyable ways to “waste” our time on. Its not an mmorpg exclusive thing as Im not buying the premise that everybody stopping with wow is because they move onto another similar game.
Personally, FF14 isnt my cup of tea so ill give it a miss but exploring Path of Exile was a direct effect from him shinning a spotlight on it.
that’s their problem.
Too focused on the wrong things. not enough when it matters.
For example, Immediately changing Kael’thas’s voice actor, removing garrosh saying B#tch to sylvanas after years of it being in the game, Removing Swifty NPC’s, immediately after the accusations. Even though, none of them were proven and he wasn’t found guilty either.
Not really. The retail developers couldn’t help themselves to ruin classic tbc as well with their stores etc. Ffxiv is already the king of mmorpgs and now one of the top streamers plays it. Go figure.
Yeah. That’s what I think I said.
It’s their problem.
And as you say, then they have a bit of a history of this, so we know how it unfolds.
They either do some damage control and nip it in the bud quickly or they weather the storm and get dragged through the mud.
Both options are rather undesired and they’d definitely prefer if it was just another normal boring Sunday.
Edit: But it is friggin’ stupid. I mean why on earth would you, as a Blizzard employee, respond to this person with that reply:
Like… THINK!!!
200k for a single streamer is huge regardless of what he is playing lol.
2,5 million viewer !!! ??? Man there got to be something I didn’t get about that person , how come so many people watch/follow him i don’t get it … in that i mean more than two millions of people really ?
because obviously they find him entertaining?
I see what you did there with invincible meme . Well done…
But yea. Honestly, I don’t care much about what he said about asmongold.
Personally, I’m more annoyed that this guy is the product manager. So he’s responsible for what blizzard thinks players want and putting that vision into the game.
He’s basically Mr Meaningful choice.
Yes obviously but 200 k is already a lot of people tuned behind their computers but two millions and a half ? If this keep up the guy is gonna get bigger than the game he played and blizz rofl that product manager shouldn’t have insulted him maybe it is because of that too.
Ahhhh Yikes, that Xy person is exactly the kind of person I hate on Twitter, pretending to promote acceptance and openness but in reality they’re the exact opposite if you don’t fit in their mold.
I mean he got 7k subs in a single day - that’s like $35k. Not bad wage for playing a game xD
Yeah it definitely doesn’t make matters any better that the person he backs up is a furry gender expert antifascist technoanar…is that even a thing?
I mean…it’s so dumb. Blizzard don’t exactly make it easy to take their side very often anymore.
big brain moments
The Schrödinger Asmongold effect. At first you are Happy because he brings 200k viewers to your game and then you start shaking because you know in 2 month he’ll start raging over your game and his toxic community will start poisoning your game related forums.
Charm and intelligence. A lot of it
It’s a sad knock on effect of his community having a higher percentage of basic trash. Luckily, Square will ban the hell out of any that don’t toe the line. That and I’m glad hes on US, the queue times on FF14 would suck tonight otherwise!
I understand that some people in his community are toxic, with so many people you’re bound to have a few bad apples but from my experience and even on the forums there are some of his viewers, I can tell the vast majority is not toxic.
