So I deleted 15 years of progress: opinions

As the title suggests, i would like opinions on this.

I have recently just deleted every character on my account, this character i am posting on was made while waiting for a ticket to delete the last one and to of course make this thread.

Now this consists of a few 120s, i think it was 9 or 10 in total, nothing too special tho, 4 of them have 12/12hc nyalotha, 2 with the skip and one with only 2 dungeons to the mythic+ mount, i’m sure some will know siffrah-runetotem from the dk forum, my main and a wrath of the lich king era death knight, as well as Rithiel-Azjolnerub from the warrior forum and less so but more amusing, the rogue athrosh-runetotem from the rogue forum as well as my 2 original vanilla characters.

Now you are probably wondering why I would effectively destroy 15 years worth of progress and memories, that is a mix of a few things, for starters you have all seen shadowlands and the… questionable design direction but that is simply a disagreement in where the game is going.

Secondly of course, is the personal loot and gathering node looting mechanics, I simply don’t like them, they are not what i signed up for and i was hoping for some news on at the very least the option to not use personal loot but also complete removal of gathering nodes usable by multiple characters along with looting of the same kind, i simply did not feel this is good for the game.

Further along we end up in the whole cross realm issue, this was perhaps the biggest destroyer of the community and was never addressed even after years and years of people demanding at the very least some realms that did not cross-realm.

Naturally that brings me to peoples treatment of me both in game and on the forum alike, including from blizzard It simply became more and more frequent that i have had negative interactions with people and for what seems like no apparant reason, I mean i can deal with people in game trash talking, i have dealt with plenty of my threads getting derailed by people but never have i seen such disrespect from blizzard themselves in all my years playing this game.

So I want some opinions on this whole situation because as you can clearly see, i feel so strongly about this that i have effectively deconstructed a vanilla old account right before the release of the prepatch to an expansion.

Should i just continue on and pretend everything is fine?
Should i just go away without saying more?
or should i do something else perhaps?

You still haven’t said why you deleted all your characters. Not liking the game doesn’t mean you have to delete anything.

not really, can i have your gold though?

No one can tell you what to do.

For whatever reasons you deleted them on, they felt right at that time.

If I am annoyed enough I would just leave

Those are more meant to be rhetorical questions than actual questions.

Then read the last line

Uhmmm if you don’t like Shadowlands, you can skip it? Check in maybe 1 year later see if it’s changed or then wait for next expac?

Honestly, I didn’t like BFA, skipped it entirely, came back when I heard PvP was going in somewhat of a direction I like and re-subbed.

To delete an account is overly dramatic.

In the end, This is just a game. If you don’t like it, then leave.

As for not liking the community. That’s too bad. Because people are toxic in every online community. The trick is, finding the people you like and enjoy playing with them, which obviously wasn’t the case for you it seems.

I am in no way trying to be flippant about your feelings at present, but I do think you may regret deleting your characters, as you say it is deleting 15 years worth of progress.

Sometimes when we think everything is too much, it’s a good time to take a step back, play other games or get back to old hobbies, give ourselves a little time out

I hope you change your mind about deleting your characters, take a well deserved break and come back to the game refreshed and ready to carry on.

This is really stupid
Just unsub, uninstall the game, and walk away

If you change your mind in the future you can come back and everything will still be there.
If you dont change your mind then having the characters exist doesn’t matter at all.

Youre just harming your potential future enjoyment of the game because of something temporary.

Can’t speak for anyone else, but I have an emotional attachment to my characters.
Even if I did stop playing WoW, I’d leave them be and probably return at some point for that nostalgic feeling.

I can get your disappointment in the game, but I agree with the others, take a break, a long one if necessary, no need to purge your account. Blizz might listen eventually. I’m with you on cross-realms, and negative interaction with community. But the good people make it all worth it, for me anyway.

You may have deleted 15 years of progress through your charcters, but those memories will be with you forever and a lot of achievements are account bound now.

As far as shadowlands, it is what it is, which is something new to play . I’ll play it until I feel the need not to anymore. I don’t mind covenant abilities, or the loot system.

The trash talking has always gone on, you grow thick skin to it imo. I never have let it bother me.
I believe that trash talking feels more frequent because we are subjegated to way more conflicts these days.
May it be social media, or even when we watch TV or read the news. It paints a negative outlook on life in general imo, that can impact your mentality leaving you feel vulnerable to in game insults.

You might just need a fresh start or a break from the game to be fair. You sound burntout.

Actually ask Blizzard to delete your account then I’ll believe you. Characters are never permanently deleted.

To put some context on this, even if i did start to restore my characters, it would take approximately 7 months to restore them and undo what is done

To some of the others, yes that is past tense “deleted” as in it was already done before i began this thrad.

You needed to delete the gear off every chsr and then delete it! Then it’s not undoable in any sense :sunglasses::sunglasses:

Who are we to question your decisions ? If u felt that’s the best for you ofc you did the right thing
The game direction goes exactly how the developers envision it  .
I don’t want to be mean but you are just confused how things work

restore them at one a week

I think deleting everything is a pointless statement as it only potentially hurts you, should you decide to return. TBH at first I though you might be going for a complete rerol due the leveling changes, which would make more (though still little) sense to me.

Hope you find something you enjoy playing

Next month *character restore.
