Blizzard wants to get a new Creative Director, and are hiring for the position of “Narrative Director” below the Creative Director, which hasn’t been a thing before. Both positions are “big picture” kind of positions, among other things responsible for making the story of the game fit into the production restraints and coordinating the creatives that work on it, so that they are actually creating a products that fits together. Notably, they are both higher positions than Danuser’s. As a creative lead he may still be in charge of deciding what should happen with the story in as much as he did until now, but at least when it comes to how it will happen, what fits into the game and what kind of books should be written, there will probably be some new faces deciding most of that.
So, do you think that this will be a good thing? Will this lead to a more well-ordered narrative experience than the catastrophe we got in SL? Or will it just put more cooks in a kitchenalready too full of them? Will it finally end the “incompetence” of the current story leadership, or will it stifle Danuser, when he was just getting the hang of the job?
And does this make you more exited or more wary of Dragonflight than you were before?
It’s crazy that they didn’t have anyone doing that job before and it explains a lot. It could be a good thing for the future, but now I’m having serious doubts about Dragonflight’s cohesiveness considering the timing of this announcement. It feels like they know they’ve been telling their story in a halfassed way for a while and need to do better if they want to keep the game alive.
I hope the new roles remember that there’s actually a lot of old unexplored lore left
I also hope they realize that a lot of the things in world of warcraft already have a point of origin and will not try to give us another SL-tier retelling of how things actually work for realsies (only to hide behind unreliable narrator mask when they get called out for it when they started implementing lore that contradicted chronicles)
I’m neutral in this, I’m not convinced it’ll make it worse nor am I convinced it’ll make it better, can’t speak for others but I just don’t know enough to comfortably say this is great or this is horrible
Well… this topic doesn’t seem to elicit much speculation. I personally think that it’s an overdue move that can only help at this point… But yeah, actually caring is hard. We’ll have to see the results, but “too little, too late” comes to mind. At this point I don’t really care about fixing the story, I just care about reducing its importance to the game. I don’t care if it’s “better”, I want it to be something simple and unobstrusive, something I don’t have to think about, if I don’t care to.
You don’t need the same body to be ressurected, though, Trolls did it more than once…
Oh, I already listen to the whispers of the Void (when I summon a Voidwalker, for example, or cast certain Warlock spells), and it seems I can resist them just as much as a Void Elf anyway
also it doesn’t mean that I feel the need to study them and further corrupt myself in the process…the Void, just like the Light, Fel and other schools of magic, are just magical sources that we can use methodically to obtain power for ourself…it’s not really worth the time to delve in the study of them so much like the Void Elves do, and eventually it could become way too risky for them if they don’t control the whispers and their Void powers.
(indeed I don’t like Lady Liadrin and the Blood Knights worshipping the Light so much recently either, rather than just using the Sunwell as a power source for channeling the Light, it seems like they are becoming more and more like Human Paladins of the Silver Hand… and that’s a curse and corruption in itself for them too)
It’s not an ideal story that I like, but Lady Liadrin and the Blood Knights are still dedicated to Quel’Thalas and the Horde. It was Liadrin who worked with Lor’themar to gain Shal’dorei friendship and worked on getting Suramar into the Horde.
And we also have to consider - it’s not to our said please and we should be listened to, but Turaylon (and the Lightforged by extension, perhaps), view the Horde Paladins with disdain.
Same here. Blood Elves, and even a large part of High Elves before, pride themselves in mastering various energy sources, bending them to their will, not worshipping them like gods. That notion is sadly being lost on Blood Elves under Lor’themar’s leadership. That’s why I liked the Void Elves: they still have that subversive nature. They don’t worship the Void, they seek to master it.
The treachery of Kael’thas truly shook up Sin’dorei society.
I admit, I do love the Blood Elves’ Mastery of Arcane Magic and I think them tapping into more…dangerous forms of magic could happen again (particularly fel magic), but for that to happen - I do think they need to lose the Sunwell. Not Quel’Thalas, because TBC has shown that the region of QT can change with the Blood Elves, but a shake up in Sin’dorei society needs to happen.
Thrall never harmed the alliance. Jaina however participated in the fourth war and killed countless loyal Horde soldiers. Nice attempt at trolling Senti but it won’t work. Now get out of my thread.
