SoD - Retribution Paladins - Seal Twisting

It is well known that “Seal Twisting” is a integral part for Classic WoW and TBC for Retribution Paladins. In Season of Discovery Blizzard has removed the ability to Seal Twist and I have no idea why as the new improved Seal of Blood from the new Rune System is perfect for Seal Twisting. So why have you removed this mechanic for the game?

A lot of Retribution players like myself spent time learning this mechanic and with Season of Discovery allowing players to customise their own play styles with different runes and many different builds, why has the Development team removed one of the funnest playstyles Retribution has ever had and many players love? This seems against what Season of Discovery was going for? Why has a mechanics so integral to Paladins just been removed flat out? I don’t think any other Class’s had a basic mechanic like this removed from them.

Before people say “ah, its a bug and shouldn’t be there”, a lot of games with old jankey coding have many bugs arising from it but sometimes like in this case with Retribution its a actually an improvement to class fuctionality and enjoyment. The closest example I can think off is in the game League of Legends where a Champion Riven was unintentionally animation canceling with her abilites, which again wasn’t an intended feature but the developers left the bug in as it was a cool way to show skill expression with her and made her unique and way more funner to play.

I would argue the same with Seal Twisting with Retribution. There’s already strong choices in the same Rune slot as the new Seal of Blood (Divine Storm) so as long as there’s an option in that tree for Retribution Paladins who don’t want to Seal Twist I dont understand the need to remove this mechanic from the game? It’s just making the experience worse for no reason. Surely if its too strong you could just nerf it down to a reasonable spot and I’m sure with all the new fancy class runes + combinations it certainly will be other more broken things.

So from a Retribution Paladin lover please add this mechanics into Season of Discovery! You’re already going crazy with all the crazy new stuff your adding, I see little reason not to keep this specific interaction in the game!

Seal twisting is a very annoying gameplay mechanic. Since we have a lot more active abilties to use now it’s great that we dont have to use a seal every 3 seconds.

I am also a huge fan of seal twisting and prefer it to having more buttons to press. It’s a mechanic about rhythm and random happy moments when everything procs and you get great burst potential. It is also extremely versatile as you can twist utility seals like wisdom and justice for example.

I have one question and some comments:
Question: how are you so sure that seal twisting will not be possible with the new seal?
I got the same idea from Esfand’s video at first, when he tries out Paladin at Blizzcon, while still inside Darnassus.
However, further into the video, when he’s figthing through BFD raid. He sometimes changes between other seals (that are not SoC) and there’s a moment where both seals are active. Can it be that seal twisting will not be possible twisting SoC into something, but will be possible if you have some other seal and you twist into SoC?
I’m very curious about this

He was looking if the seal lingered after swapping and it just instantly switched

Once they removed batching, seal twisting was no longer possible. They added the seals to linger for 0,5 sec or something for both to go off on swing. Then they hotfixed it to only happen when changing from command into any seal.

Without this 0,5 sec lingering seal, no twist is currently possible with the classic client as far as I know. Esfand was swapping seals to judge seal of the martyr for its judge damage, no twist was going off though.

Actually, I went and rewatched the video. Here’s what I found:

Further into BFD, e.g. at 11:15, Esfand changes SoR into SoM and for 0.5s both are up. However, the same does not happen at 12:42, when he changes from SoM into SoC. It seems to me that the problem is in SoC, as it might be canceling other seals.
Maybe the play will be to SoR into SoM?

And is it me or is SoC having a 100% chance to proc throughout the whole video?

Yea, seems to be both up, the duration is I think halved though. When I cross-reference it with tbc videos at least. I might try it on ERA later, but I’m pretty sure it’s half the time - just going by frames.

Maybe, I hope its just a oversight though. The SoC double proc interaction when twisting is alot more fun imo.

For all of TBC classic seal twisting only worked going from SoC → SoR/SoB. Looking at this Esfand clip we can clearly see that SoC doesn’t linger.

What strange change to make if it is the case that SoR into another seal might be way to do it. This feels very intentional, otherwise why change it at all? Classic era currently supports twisting from SoC into another seal, afaik.

Please give us seal twisting like in tbc. It’s so much more fun and you can really practice in mastering your class better and better

Blizzard, PLEASE introduce a seal twist rune!
Let players deside on the playstyle they want to play

Why are you asking for that here? Blizzard does not read the forums, and even if they did, you managed to post the wrong place. There is a forum specific for SoD.
