SOM - Botcraft!?

0 mentions of how they plan to combat or even resolve bots in SOM, as unlike first time we had classic, bots needed to adjust, scout the possibilities of avoiding bans and level in off-hours to reduce the chance of being reported before going in Stratholme or BRD or ZG hacking without the possibility to report them.

This time around, however, Bots know the ins & outs how to totally ignore Blizzard’s [Award winning  ]automated system + unwillingness to even adress the problem in the first place.

So,
the mixture of Blizzard’s total lack of interest with botting “community” know-how, will we have a true BotCraft SOM from the very start?

It is completely disgusting pretending like it’s hard to detect bots in this age of machine learning techniques. The only reason is money. If they wanted them gone they’d be gone.

You don’t need machine learning for pick pocket rogues or mages in instances, or Z-axis out of bounds detector

That’s what I would use to predict the possibility of a player being a bot, but there are probably many feasable ways of doing it - which really just underscores the point of it being more than doable and just a question of revenue.

The three axis are commonly labelled as x,y,z which means you’re looking at certain spaces being out of bounds instead of a value on a single axis. We wouldn’t want people using the teleporting trinket, getting the malfunction and then getting banned for botting as an example.

Classic has problems with bots moving up or under ground, usually up. During Legion warrior class hall exit disconnected players because one of such checks (player speed) triggered so they had to teleport toons instead of show an actual fall at high speed. Meanwhile on classic:

It’s totally understandable that they can’t catch ALL the bots, but so far in classic (and retail - probably) they showed absolute NO regard in even trying to slow the bot infestation. Would like at least some info that they’ll improve their anti-cheating policy at least.

They tarnish their brand willfully in exchange for stronger quarterlys. It’s a tradeoff they make. So either accept or don’t play.

You’re probably right. But with a fresh start there is a little chance they actually address it and use the opportunity to do this right. I’ll give SOM a try but will surely be gone for good this time before I get in too invested game-wise and get brought the above option.

Just not allow rogues to pickpocket in dungeons/ the mob just attacks you if you try to pickpocket, cap mages aoe to 4/5 mobs, Z Axis out of bounds checks, or just paying a single employee to interact with players in game like they used to and in the meantime check for bots.
But this will not be addressed

Old problem that is consistent across most platforms and are clearly completely ignored as it bring revenue and support a large playerbase desire to buy gold or simply have a market where everything is dirt cheap.
I have learned to enjoy the latter. It’s nice to buy brill shards 2g each. This all is also bots effectively shooting themselves in the feet, nowhere near as much gold will be bought when market is flooded with trade goods.

What I really wonder is how many players are actually dependent on the bought gold. It is A LOT of players, and it’s hard to measure as it’s a shush shush subject. Entire guilds are run on bought gold. Another strong reason why it’s not dealt with.

You are very true on that! A quick search of avg gold prices on RMT sites reveals that gold is actually dirt cheap these days.

Thanks to total bot ignore by blizzard we actually have a deflation of the economy rather than inflation we got used to seeing in the past.

But this just completes the vicious circle as players have no incentive to actually farm (or play the game for that matter) as anything gained from that activity is kinda worthless when you compete with hundreds of bots who dump everything on AH for crazy low prices.

So naturally a lot of players turn to RMT as 1 hour of work equals 2 days of farming in game and the barrier to [RMT] entry is so low.

I mean, if this was a european company I would like to believe that EU would force Blizzard to be held responsible for not taking care of the thousands of gaming addicts they have created. People that are living on unemployment checks and treats WoW as a side hustle negatively impacts the quality of gaming life for players who better take care of their career.

All they need to do is just hire a few guys to manually go look at every bot report. Works a treat on p-servers and people do that moderation FOR FREE. There are pretty much zero bots on Darrowshire and they are announced in world chat each time they are banned. It’s just a case of blizzard being too cheap to even hire a couple people to work full time to investigate bots. Unacceptable when people pay a monthly sub.

With no WB’s and increased boss hp, consumables are gonna be more important than ever. You really think the ‘casual’ crowd who want no WB are gonna farm mats for 10+ hours/week? They’re gonna be swiping, so as bad as it is for us ‘honest’ players, it’s exactly what the majority of the SOM community will want, even if they don’t realize it yet.

And what consumables suddenly become so impactful? If Blizz add to much HP then nobody will play it and the meta will be to not bring DPS with a mana bar. Mana pots will be spammed, while mongoose and alike will see normal usage. If there will be a lot of wipes nobody will play it.
