OK so quicker rank progression and increased numbers of npc’s in AV sound like positive changes. I wouldnt complain if same faction BG’s were introduced.
Just need a release date now, come on blizzard it must have been decided surely someone can leak it so people can get ready

Bracket 1 caps will be insane with this fast paced version

Anyone can explain the new pvp system?
It should play the same in the sense that you grind honor and are awarded rank points each week based on where you stand compared to other players on the server.
The difference is In Classic Era, the rate_factor (i.e. the percentage of the previous week’s expected points that will be awarded) is 20%. In Season of Mastery, we are increasing that rate to 40% to match the faster pace of content.
So my understanding is you will get a higher amount of rank points each week this should help to overcome decay plateau if you’re at lower brackets and also let you gain ranks quicker.
Maybe someone a bit wiser than myself can clarify though?

In how many weeks you can for example get rank 12 with this increment?
If you fill in numbers in their formula, it looks like you rank 100% faster. I hope my math adds up
So instead of 12 hardcore weeks to grind up to rank 14, it will “only” take you 6 weeks. Sounds nice.
not as high as it would be if pvp release 2 months in the game. phase 2 was a failure because everyone and their moms had time to prepare for ranking. Having honor system on release reduces the bottleneck

My questions:
- IS the decay gone? or is it 40% now? the same as the rate_factor? (which of the 3)? Or is everything still intact??? I don’t understand where to put in *(this_week’s_expected_points - current_ranking_points) * rate_factor
*Is the table gone? with ranks and base minimum amount of RP? the 5000 between each rank??
So overal, can someone explain in mathematics and formulas what is going on right now?
I don’t know where to add:
(this_week’s_expected_points - current_ranking_points) * rate_factor
Where do I have to use this?? icy-veins never uses this formula anywhere or uses a rate_factor, probably because this was introduced much later in classic ERA. I never played ERA. I went to TBC right ahead.
Hopefully someone is good in math and can explain everything really clearly. I really want to know.
If it is true what people say here that the rate increases 100%. Thus it takes 6 weeks to rank up to rank 14 instead of 12 weeks, sounds nice to me.

Without arena it will be join a discord pre made with 100% win rate. Pay the ‘management’ real money/crypto and they bump you to the top of the R14 list … If you don’t follow what they say they will ban you and you won’t hit 13/14 EVER.
Note: With how fast raid content will be released, you are far better off building rep in a raiding guild so LC prio you.
Thats why premades should not be allowed in any bg. Want premade? sure group up and go pvp in stormwind/orgrim or anywhere else in wpvp. Coz building setup class related and handpicking ppl based on gear or spec somethin that oppesite team can not is exploit. Honnestly from p2 to p5 alliance was dominating premades, coz of paladin they was handpicking the class horde did not have, get 3 paladins= buble x6 add to that 2 mages with iceblock and u got 8/10 unkillable team. And also no1 mentions wintrade… do u rly thing premades fight each other? NO! Time-inefficient they just wintrade, coz its faster, u win this one, and lose the next one we meet. Not to mention bg scouting, using alt of the oppesite faction to trigger a BG instance and reserve 1 slot with ur alt so no other premade join that bg#, meaning that all who end up be matched with u will be randoms and in handicap coz whole fight if not atleast the half will be 10vs9. Besides lets be honnest since WB was not made with the mindset being mandatory to raid as developers said back then and also was not made with intention to be used in raid, same bg’s was not made with premade mind set they could just let a buddy or 2 team up with u and play on same BG when pvp was not cloud with all realms but only realm vs realm, and que times was realm related based on each realm population to fasten up the ques. If u even want a true SoM since u banish WB, u should banish premades from bgz aswell, easy carry to rank 14 no more, premade all u like in epl or silithus. Perhaps this might be the only welcome change in SoM, but i bet they wont do it, retail crowd will be mad.

I think the increase to honor will force many players to feel that honor grind is obligatory. It creates a chain reaction where bis items are reserved for those who did they grind as they deserve it more. I looked a lot forward to SoM being 32 years old with family and job. But this is off putting. It will not have a positive impact on the majority of players. Moreover, PvP will be more unbalanced as it will be divided between those who have the time and those who do not.
I agree same situation then you but we have to live with it

Imagine rewarding people investing time, horrible - right?
Isnt the reward for you spending more time with people you love while Mr Rank 14 spends his in queues and BGs? Or do you value pixels more, in which case perhaps you should focus on why instead of crying on a forum about the most basic thing in MMO games, time = reward.
Start a guild yourself and reward the people who invest the least and who skip every other raid, who dont do their farm, who are carried by others. See where your own logic takes you.

Yes I agree , I play 6 days per week at vanilla during 18 months ended naxx 9/15 , getting stuff is time consuming , the majority of player didn’t get anything.
well the way it worked in classic is that a fixed pct of players get allocated to each bracket. you sort all active chars in the pool from highest honor to lowest, then the first 0.03% get the R13 bracket and so on. the bracket then determined the ranking points you would get. then you deduct the decay of your current bracket, result is your progress.
so if everyone got twice as much - or 100x for example’s sake - as much honor, it wouldnt matter. but more ranking points mean it is way easier to fight the decay if you actually make it to the high bracket.
the net result is a burst of no-life grind that wont last as long as it used to but will be just as intense.
they havent fixed the biggest issues of decay and bracket slotting
Remove the decay.
People should be able to rank at their pace. The game is already in weird spot with the end of world buff in PvE, so if you are logic make the same nerf in PvP.

that would be the best solution but i dont think we will ever see that. blizz hasnt worked out how to combine that with the prestige requirement of high ranks.
its a broken system i think most rankers agree. if you are on 12+, expect to do 500k+ honor each week just to fight the decay. go on holiday for 1 week and you can completely forget it. and thats if ppl actually work together. usually you get bracket breakers detected last minute whichbthen forces all niters on the rank squad
Simply removing the decay would mean well over 10% of the players could be rank 14 about the time dire maul is released even without any increase in RP gains. Over 30% could be rank 14 before BWL is released. That should not be an option Blizzard even considers seriously.
