[SOM] What happens when it ends?

It’s not out yet, I know. However, before I invest time into the game, I’d like to know the intention for characters when SOM is over.
I’ve seen a lot of intention of design from developers, which is brill, but before I invest a considerable amount of time in SOM, I would like to know the intention for characters when the season is over.

Will TBC Classic release again (I cannot see people wanting to do that again?) will characters transfer to the current WoW Classic realms?

Understandable if people are happy if their characters are just made obsolete at the end of the season but personally I don’t think I’d play if my hard work just died after every season (But no flame for those who don’t mind)

I’m just interested to hear developer intentions and what the community feels is the best solution before I make that time investment.

Edit: Having reviewed the new “Intentions part 2 of 2” I am still not clear if we can move from “Classic Era” realms to WoW Classic tbc or above realms with the same payment option we had on the previous WoW Classic realms.

Thanks for the reply. I didn’t see this, much appreciated. I assume “Classic era” realms will include the current WoW Classic TBC realms and potentially wrath afterwards. Very happy to hear this news.

Nope, Classic Era is not TBC Classic. You will be going to the level 60 maximum realms.

There is a small possibility you may be able to pay for a clone to TBCC from Classic Era for your SoM character but nothing has been said about that yet

Ah I see. That’s what I meant in the first post, but I should’ve been more clear. I would pretty much say the current level realms are dead, and meant I would like to move it to TBC or above where people are actually playing.

Keep in mind if you are playing SoM you are playing a seasonal version of the game. There’s a difference there between that and the current TBC servers, which are not seasonal. I think it’s important you remember what you are getting into with SoM as it doesn’t really have much to do with the current active Classic servers (non-Era). It’d probably be quite unfair if you could cheese out a Scarab Lord title on SoM, then transfer that character to TBC when SoM ends. Scarab Lord (just using this as an example), to my knowledge, is a one-time event and a very lucrative and rare title. So for people to get a second (and third, fourth etc with more seasons of Classic) chance at that and be able to transfer that to the original Classic servers (the ones that are in BC right now), it doesn’t quite seem fair. Especially considering SoM will have different rules. For example, ranking will be faster. So in essence, getting R14 will be easier and more common on those servers. But on the original servers, it was a lot harder because ranking was slower (and more competitive, let’s be real, SoM can never have as big of a playerbase as original Classic had). So yeah those are my arguments for why you will not be able to take your SoM character into BC and forward. It’s just like a different thing.

I understand it’s seasonal, but they are transferring characters to Classic Era realms. I am just asking if they will allow transfers to TBC or above with a paid option like they did on the previous WoW Classic version. I want that answered before I play. If not, that’s okay, I just won’t play, but I would like clarity (Not a ‘bad game haha’ thing) I would just like to know before I invested so much time.

Although, I don’t really think PvP titles or Scarab Lord is even rare. I wouldn’t use that as an excuse. Five of our guildies got it on Classic. There’s tons of them and X website are full of people selling them, and realm Discords are also full of it too.

I get you though, it’s an event, but you cannot “chesse” scarab lord bud. You need to put A LOT of effort into it and have a lot of people help you or spend a metric ton of gold paying people (Which you’d probably grind from day 1 to day X).

I wouldn’t basically delete characters and deter so many players because a few extra scarab might end up on TBC. The mount is worthless anyway.

Well I don’t think they will, if they were going to, they probably would have mentioned that as well, since it could motivate more people to play SoM.

Sorry but why this “unfairness” would be any different from the unfairness of mixing SoM people in Era servers? This argument doesn’t work.

I understand this but on the other side it would be better than nothing that SoM players revive the Era servers… Maybe it’s even the whole purpose of Seasons on the the long run?

As for me, I’d rather see SoM sustained and evolving into ClassicPlus game, by far…

You never know. They only put up they would allow transfer to classic era recently. I’m just wondering if the same functionality of paying to transfer to TBC will be there or will som character be somewhat “tagged” so they specifically can not transfer above classic era. Just some clarity would be nice.

I don’t want to sound rude, but who cares about those titles if it comes with the price tag of having to play in ghost town servers? If there is any chance that classic servers (or even tbcc) can get more active players, I don’t see any REAL negative effects with that transfer option.

Same. The titles themselves are worthless anyway. Nobody apart from a very small minority cares. I got High Warlord on original classic, couldn’t care less if a few extra people from SoM came to my realm on TBC with that title too. They played 2-3 weeks less potentially to earn it – ultimately, really, who cares lol.

Your character will be welcome by no one to an empty server to enjoy the nothingness of Era Realms.

Sadly it looks to be the case. Still no word about SoM characters being eligable for the paid transfer off Classic Era to TBCC. What a shame.

We need new fresh mastery after it ends ofc

Wouldn’t they naturally be? If they are moved to the classic realms, wouldn’t it technically be logical?

It’s possible. However, if that would be the case, it would be reasonably straightforward for Blizzard to reply to the multiple comments on their official thread or here (Personally if I wrote that post I wouldn’ve said “Characters will be moved to any Classic Era realm of your choice with the option to progress to TBCC”, not writing that would imply to me that may not be the case. I would just like some clarity.

I want to play, but I don’t want my characters just on some dead Classic Era realms, which basically is the same as deleting them ultimately. I would certainly play if I knew I could transfer them to TBCC with my hard work.

Actually, SOM will end before it ends.

no one knows really not even devs.

It’s beginning to look that way haha
