Some words from 3100 rio frost mage (5th highest world)

Hi fellow mages,

I few words from me, who has timed all +20 keys and some 21 as frost. I am also top 1% precent on all hc bosses as frost.

First of all I dont play rune of power in raids or m+. I hate the spell and play incanters flow even if its slightly weaker overall (Around 5% overall if you play perfect with rune)

Please note that if you mess up a few runes, you have to move or dont have full burst during it, incanters flow do same OR EVEN higher DPS.

When I pushed my 20/21 keys I played with fully geared DH/rogues/warrior all the meta specs. As frost in m+ playing incarnters flow I am usually 2nd highest dps, and sometimes 3rd. Loosing to the top DPS with 5-10% usually. In AA i can avarage 100k dps and NO is also good for frost mage, can avarage 80-85k there.

Also note that I dont have a m+ team. I play only in LFG with random people in every key, so its not that I get carried, I have to pull my weight to time those keys for sure.

The buff to frostbolt with 20% on reset will increase our ST damage with around 3% and do nothing to our AOE.

I think many people underestimate frost. They are slightligt behind but not as much as people think. As I said I have never been outdpsed in hey keys with more than 15% ever, and often its maximum 10% to the top dps.

Also note that 10-15% behind top dps in m+ is still a lot because I have bis trinket, 4p.

With the 20% buff to frostbolt the gap will get a bit smaller, but I still think Frost mage would need an overall 5% dmg increase and we could be viable again.

Just some thoughts relateing to some of the threads here, in regards to m+ players.

  • You dont have to play rune of power
  • You can push high content as frost
—> Frost still need 5% overall buff to be competitive ! <—
  • Frost mage has the most utility in the game for m+, and is a perfect support spec.
  • You have best defensives in game: 2 ice blocks, greater invis 60% dmg redcution, Mirror images 20% dmg redcution, alter time, ice barrier, healthpot. If you know what to do and when, you cant die in m+ rotatating these defensives, even in high keys. If we wipe its always someone else dieing.
  • You have best interrupts in the game: 2 x Counterspell (shifting power between), Dragon breath(mass stopp), Blast wave (mass stopp)
  • You have 5% intellect for healer and party + BL
  • You can knock mobs with blast wave from sanguine or to stack spread mobs.
  • Slows if the tank need to kite.
  • You have spellsteal to remove shields in som keys, and there are powerful buffs you can steal in many dungeons for dps increase.

For lower keystones, damage is all that matters. In high keys some of the points above are more important than only damage, and thus you can still push as a suppoert player. Not the most fun, but it’s something.

Have a nice one!

If you play Arcane or Fire you are prety bound to use RoP.
The only reason Frost can permit using Incanter is because the damage profile is so flat the burst window off RoP won’t benefit them as much as the other specs :man_shrugging:

Yea but i think most people know that incanter’s is good for frost, the problem is arcane and fire.

For frost i also use incanter, i just wish that it was an option for fire and arcane too, but it just isn’t because of their design.

And i just don’t get why they keep doubling down on rune when it’s so universally disliked.

Maybe if incanter was from 6 % to 30% or even 40 % it would be an option for fire and arcane too.

Don’t confuse a loud minority with a Majority  .

The ppl that don’t mind (or even like) aren’t on these forums often to give permanent feedback.
The ppl posting about issues complaining x y z are often the loud minority.

I think you’re living in a dreamworld if you think a lot of people like rune of power. And that’s all there is to it.

This topic itself and posts of other Mages from different ratings both here and in NA show that most Mages in general dislike or have negative attitude towards RoP. There are some exceptions, but even those who are neutral often do not mind it being gone as well.

Back to the topic - OP, would you support getting this 5% remaining buff via specific abilities or general damage buff?

The mages on these forums you mean.
Like I said (and Ilyon in a different topic aswell).

Ppl that don’t have anything to complain about aren’t on these forums.

Maybe true, but forum opinions are a way of opinion representation as well. Even assuminhg that most EU Mages do not spend time on forums, NA forums are much more active and there RoP is disliked just as much. So whatever the representation of forums is, I suspect that it still shows general Mage attitude to RoP.

They should honestly give an In-game button that glows if a question is bieing asked, this leads too a question form (forgot it’s official name) to all mage players before they change anything.

Same with all other classes.
Forum representation is garbage.

Would not mind that, something like in-game poll.

They already have that “You have been selected to fill out a GM-Survey” nonesense.
Why not do the same with class/spec changes :man_shrugging:

… Fair post…though most players are in my ballpark…20-30% less secondary stats, half your mastery. When one’s gear is ‘in progress’ it’s misery playing this spec.
At least you have given me hope that frostie is not completely dead and there is a speck of light at the end of the tunnel.

I actually enjoyed reading this post from the OP and most likely will give me some ideas to change some talents around. I wasn’t playing much at all in Shadowlands and now with DF I went with the usual guides.
A lot of them do suggest RoP for the slight damage advantage. And if I can stand still for those 12 second or only have to move slightly for a short time that’s probably true but for a lot of bosses this isn’t the case. I’m most likely not skilled enough to anticipate every movement in advance but I can almost guarantee that once I put my RoP down on 2 bosses in Shadowmoon BG the sword will come down on me and I gotta move.

And while I don’t have your gear or your progress definitely like the idea that I could make my life a bit easier without losing out too much.

Hi,

I actually think the ST damage will be fine after this frostbolt buff tomorrow. I would like frozen orb a bit buffed so our AOE in better, I feel that is our main weakness

If math that Frostbolt buff is a 2% dps increase is correct, maybe still not enough for ST. But yes, AoE is a bit bigger priority.

Yeah close to that, I think it will be like 2,5%. We will see mate

They listened to my 5% dmg buff. wiii

How did you do that?!

Endless badgering.

Funny thing, Frost is already rated higher then Arcane in M+

That is not true. If you check top 10 rio mages only 1 is frost and 9 is arcane.
