Something to think about WoW vs Diablo

Both are old frenchises but Diablo 4 became fastest selling game in Blizz history, on WoW side of the story, Shadowlands was the fastest selling expansion and Dragonflight couldn’t crack that, none of the recent wow expansions have seen the same amount of players D4 has . Diablo seems like it managed to satisfy most of its player and looks like a very smooth launch. Warcraft universe on the other hand keeps having tech issues because of old engine and old technology being used in WoW and not creating a new warcraft game that takes place in the universe. would u guys want a new warcraft game alongside wow ?

Because Diablo is What blizzard is mostly known for It was their most popular game back in the days, warcraft being only second. So diablo has lot more Fans that warcraft franchise so ofc its gonna have big sales by default. Not to mention They put crazy ammount of rescources to promote D4, like basicaly getting model/famous actress Meghan fox as their promo is big. Last time wow had Someone of this caliber promoting it was Chuck norris. I think Dragonflight had lesser budget on promotion as they focused on Diablo as Diablo was bound to be a Big hit no matter what.

I would’ve loved a Warcraft RPG, either a regular one or an ARPG. Something that let me still enjoy the IP when they finally pull the plug on WoW. I somehow doubt that’ll ever happen though, it’s probably not profitable enough unless they’d cram microtransactions into it.

If we waited 11 years for a new wow expansion…it would also be fastest selling game of all time…

Didn’t D4 have login issues yesterday? Same kinda “tech” issues wow mainly has :dracthyr_hehe_animated: and within a few days of it’s release…

those are minor compared to what wow has we had multiple exploits in the beginning of df

yeah ofc it’s about the frequency but i also think it has something to do with d4 being a modern game from an epic frenchise , wow is not on the same level for obvious reasons

they use battle pass, expansions and cosmetics to cover that in diablo i think it would do fine in a warcraft game too

So the faster something gets sold = Bad game? I mean that what shadowlands was. Its the second worst expansion ever released and only gets topped by WoD.

Because D4 took elements from D2 and PoE and gave it their own touch. D4 also attracted the PoE playerbase. Also its an entirely different Genre. Hack n slash games are generally liked and rarely fail unless really badly done.

Mhh hard debatable.

The story simply isnt done. And Diablo typically is riddled with lore inconsistences just like WoW if not more.

As far as issues are concerned: I mean if Blizzard would start working on fixing bugs in general that would already tremendously help. I mean there is stuff that being bugged for months or years or even decades.

Also having people so thick headed they happen to have no equal and never accept they are wrong from the get go in charge also isnt helpful cough covenants ion cough

RTS yes. MMO no.

Also this.

Isn’t diablo 4 already on sale for console?

it had the hype tho it wasn’t bad befor the launch, it was the most hyped expansion probably that’s why it sold the most , the issues become visible after the launch and it couldn’t hold those players .

but wouldn’t things be easier to make it with today’s tech and engines so that they don’t keep breaking this much

oh no multiple mmos would not be a great idea, maybe wow 2 ?

i have no idea, is it ?

just read an article on polygon about this and they claim it is the biggest launch because it was available on consoles & pc at launch unlike d3 and wow

Nah, you can’t buy common sense with money. What they tried to do was very obviously a stupid and risky strategy. They tried to aim at a target audience, whose size they overestimated and who will never download wow anyway, and if they did, they would quit probably. Also, the type of people their ads are aimed at plays the nintendo probably and watches disney movies. How likely is it that they will play wow on a gaming pc? It’s not the first or last time that people in charge of companies overestimate themselves and make risky moves that flop hard. In marketing I believe this is very common.

Pedro Pascal is a legend thank you very much

I’d have liked to see Warcraft universe as a total war spin off but hey

those ads were total waste of money lol at least megan fox one has some sort of connection to the game

:no_mouth: :no_mouth: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy:
I enjoyed the MF promotion just as much as the next person
But Pedro is a top guy

No, it’s smart to do mainstream advertisment for diablo, because you can play it on console. I know, it sounds simple-minded, but it is that simple.

i’m talking about pedro pascal ads for wow being waste of money, they didn’t have any connection to the game and no one played the game because he was on a few seconds long ad

You don’t seem to understand how normies view the world. Your first mistake was thinking rationally. They really seem to try to push diablo into mainstream media and you can’t think logically there anymore. Just imagine the soy jack meme pointing at an ad and telling their friend that a celebrity they like is on it. As wow players we are viewed as the pinnacle of nerds by normal people.

i know how megan fox ad worked for diablo but the pedro pascal one just made the entertainment news for one day and then disappeared from the surface .

again, what they do with diablo is the correct way to promote your game . df ads were not it , they made zero noise

i predict 70 % of the population will quit once they reach diablo endgame

AHAHAHAHAHA (Cyberpunk)

Are you implying that df is the worst selling expac in wow’s history? We don’t have exact numbers.

I’ve seen only tik tok meme style ads, i haven’t seen much ads for df anyway.

I like how those forum denizens can’t wrap their head around simple concept “game hype, release loud, big sales”, and that’s every year we have another game selling faster than every other fast-selling games that we heard of, it’s because video game market grows bigger and the loudest games get loudest sales, not because blizzard removed boobies from ingame paintings. Diablo big hype franchise = big sales, that’s all sweethearts

I heard otherwise. In the german tech forum for example I read a lot about game issues like sounds not playing, NPCs disappearing and the game even causing the OS to crash for some.
