Are you using spellsteal? Im a beginner mage and I wanted to ask you for an advice. Which spells are best to steal? Potentially with talent upgrade from arcane mage. Skills like pain supression? Can I steal for example dk’s anti magic shell?
In PvP at least there’s not a great deal of impactful abiltiies that you can steal anymore, a large portion of previously steal-able buffs are no longer classified as magic. Even our Mage damage cooldowns are now no longer dispellable.
Most spells that you can steal are stuff like short-lived barriers, raid-wide buffs, healing over time effects and class-specific buffs like Fire’s instant Pyroblast buff from Hot Streak.
Unfortunately AMS can’t be dispelled, neither can Pain Suppression.
In PvE however, it’s still pretty great, you can steal chunky shields from enemies if you/you’re group fail to interrupt and there’s a few haste and damage buffs around that you can grab.
So mage barriers and power word shield mainly in pvp? But to steal PW: Shield I’ll have to probably steal fortitude first (I’ll have 50% chance to steal shield first)
Stuff like Druid HoT effects too. There’s also a number of procs across the classes that are classified as magic and can be stolen but don’t provide any benefit to you (other than the enemy losing out on the proc).
In most cases - no, they have access to a PvP talent that makes BoF dispel immune when cast on themselves, which they will nearly always take against a Mage. You can still steal it if they cast it on someone else though.
BoP is still dispellable thankfully and I’m pretty sure Blessing of Sanctuary is also stealable.
I don’t know much about Warlocks but I can’t think of anything off the top of my head except Nether Ward, but its duration is too short to really make it worthwhile as a steal, just to dispel.
All dispellable / spellstealable effects should have a shining white border around them, which indicates that.
From what I can remember, in PVP you can / should steal:
Mages - Ice Form (would give you stun immunity for duration), Barrier (decent absorb), Alter Time / Temporal Shield (to reduce their survivability, these do not give you the effect when stolen).
Priests - Power Infusion (big Haste buff), Power Word: Shield (decent absorb after buffs to it in Dragonflight)
Druids - HoTs from Restoration Druids, especially with Kleptomania (to reduce target’s survivability and decently increase yours).
Warlocks - Nether Ward (won’t have much effect, as it would last for a second-two, but if Warlock is focused by your party, could still be useful)
Shamans - Earth Shield (does not apply to you, but reduces their survivability), Ghost Wolf (does not apply to you, but if they play a talent for its damage reduction and stacked it, can still be useful), Spiritwalker’s Grace (to remove their possibility to cast while moving).
Evokers - Dream Breath, Reversion and other HoTs, similarly to Resto Druids that would reduce survivability of target and increase your own.
Paladins - Blessing of Protection (physical damage and effects immunity), Blessing of Freedom (if it is dispellable, you can see that via the effect’s border).
Maybe I forgot some, but these are the majority of important spellstealable effects. You can also steal 1 hr duration magic buffs like Power Word: Fortitude and Mark of the Wild, but their value is not as big as the effects mentioned above.
Note that stolen Alter will not heal and return you, as it snapshots position and health of the enemy and cannot apply them to you if you steal it. Stealing Alter just makes the enemy Mage vulnerable, as he / she can soak damage and expect to Alter back at low health and if it is stolen can just die unless reacts quickly and uses Barrier / Ice Block / Greater Invisibility.
EDIT: Forgot about a major thing - you can steal Evoker’s Nullifying Shroud (1 stack per Spellsteal usage) and Priest’s Holy Ward and can turn their CC immunities against them.
