While facing forward, FPS will drop to around 19FPS with stuttering. When turning the character to face the opposite way FPS double and the stuttering disappears.
Hopefully that makes some sence.

It is not only SoA since patch 9.05…
Starting anima conductors in Bastion, Ardenweald and Maldraxus is the reason for fps drops, got a permanent stream? Then you got permanent fps drop!!.
Please check the other topics about this problem and help us bring this to Blizzard there attention.
Same thing happens when standing next to the spirit healer in WoW classic. I’d guess and say it’s something to do with physics and how it’s calculated.
They both use some things the same so yes that could be the case. I wonder what would activate it in Classis though which looks like we have in Retail (anima conductor stream).
Can you go to a cave in Classic (that has a “waterfall” in it) and rotate your camera and zoom so that so you see through that waterfall from behind it while your character is in front of it? If that annihilates FPS then it’s a old pixel fill rate problem again.
It’s not about water but semi-transparent things like fog, that water in waterfalls (which isn’t actual water, just weird semi transparent animation) and some other semi transparent things were known (and can still sometimes be) for murdering iGPUs and dGPUs with slow VRAM (low pixel fill rate). Spirit Healer is semi-transparent so it could be checked.
There is quite a few little effects that hit hard on lower systems. Plaguefall for example use the same green ooze effects that appears in the Lich King expansion. Once it starts expanding on the floor the FPS drop a lot. Fog or mist is the same, but much worse while in Torghast.
