Wasn’t scrapped, it was never intended to be used. I think it was just used as a blue print.
To be exact they said there are no warfronts being developed for 8.2. I think they still have more planned as the story moves onwards.
It would certainly be a shame if no more Warfronts or similair concepts came >.<

I was vaguely hoping for the Barrens warfront if only for the 12+ sets of tauren gear that would come with it.

Rhonin isn’t dead, not really. He lives on in his horrific looking twin sons. Two Mary Sues for the price of one.

He was a time travelling guy with the last name “Dragonheart” (except in foreignese) or “Redhair”, youthful but super good at magic, made leader of the Council of Six, hot elf wife who provided twin half-elf children (despite even one half-elf child being a super rarity)…also Raptor Army and probably some other stuff I’m foregetting.
Varian wasn’t great for sure.

You say Rhonin and Varian are Mary Sues, but I remember a certain shaman-mage-paladin who is a quarter orc, quarter draenei and half human being written into existence some time ago.

He seems to have been retconned out however, as he is not mentioned at all in Chronicles, and his name only appears on the back at the ‘‘404’’ page.
For once, I approve of a retcon.

The ‘fact’ that Orcs, Humans and Draenai can have children just raises so many questions.
It makes sort of sense for Native Azeroth races, but… that’s three planets right there…
