It was previously established that orc/draenei only happened because of dark magic being involved, at least for Garona.
That’s what happens when you let DC comics write lore, a lot of the Lo’gosh stuff also started in the DC comics. Knaack just ran with it.
I think that might be a bit too much of a stretch, considering that pretty much every Kul Tiran wearing that same jacket/belt has a dagger strapped to the back. It wouldn’t surprise me if Derek did eventually snap at some point due to the conditioning (whether it was fully implemented before Baine broke him out or not), but I don’t think that dagger will play much into it.
That Baine rescues Derek from a ship in Tiragarde is an implication that the conditioning was completed on him. Otherwise, why would he have been moved into Kul Tiran waters?
(The obvious answer is that blizz are bad at locating quests in a sensible manner, but maybe it does mean something)

I’m certain they have someone reading this thread for ideas. “Expansion stories planned years in advance” my butt.
The dagger is a default part of the Kul Tiran coats iirc, not Derek Proudmoore exclusive. That he isn’t rescued until already at Kul Tiras is the far more significant bit to me.
Assuming he was mindwarped or whatever that was all about, I’d halfway expect him to shank Momma Proudmoore and make a run for it, ridden with guilt. Where that’d take him is up in the air.
Unless he kills Jaina it’s not worth it.
Katherine finished her story relevance when she handed over leadership. Tandred was dead up until he wasn’t so him dying again does nothing.
If Derek doesn’t kill Jaina then the entire thing as a story arc was less worth it than a meandering jog on a circular treadmill.
So knowing Blizzard, it’s a fairly safe bet that Jaina will be A-Okay.

As long as Jaina is Golden’s pet character she isn’t getting killed.

It could be that he ends up playing an integral role in stopping Sylvanas’ plans down the line. A sort of ironic fate, seeing as she herself was responsible for his return.
To be honest, unless 8.2 is a miracle, I do not believe BfA will last beyond 8.3
Personally, I wouldn’t be too mad if they had 8.2 be the last patch of BFA. BFA clearly hasn’t gone so well, so if they finish up with nazjatar they can turn the inevitable old god stuff that’ll come afterwards into a full-fledged expansion instead of starting in 8.3 onwards.
WoD ended on 6.2 if memory serves with lots of ideas cut off from it. I fully predict this expansion to go the same way.

With the fall of Quel’Thalas mirrored in Teldrassil with a spiteful monarch just about destroying a species and raising a grand defender into a servant I almost expected Delaryn to be anti-Sylvanas in a subdued, spiteful way until she turns on her in maximum irony to call her out on it.
But then she got written as this 100% sycophantic, unquestioning muppet who hates all life for reasons.

I’m expecting 8.3 to happen. 8.2 looks like Tomb of Sargeras kind of turning point to me where it will fully go into old god stuff at the end.
While I’m inclined to think similarly, WoD had a very obvious amount of cut content even at the time. BfA so far doesn’t feel like anything’s been cut (Besides the Barrens warfront, which was stated to be a prototype, unless they lied about it but I’d rather assume they’re being truthful, if fumbling in many areas).
I could see it ending on 8.2.5 but not 8.2, unless that somehow wraps up Sylvanas and the war alongside Azshara.
Blizzard lie? Perish the thought.

Just the playable zandalari and kul tirans with the mag’har as filler. Things were quite obviously pushed back. They’ll be in the game when done, sure, but kul tirans still aren’t on the ptr.
I don’t think WoW will have a playerbase left if that would happen, aside from some die-hard RPers and WoW veterans, if Blizzard goes the same way as WoD, that is.
In fact, BfA has more content than WoD already had in a timespan of 2 years, whether or not people enjoy said content, though, is another thing entirely. I understand the hate behind BfA and I hate what the game has become, but it still beats the atrocity that was WoD.

Kul Tirans are on the PTR though? I’ve even tried them.
Mag’har is a better fit with Dark Iron Dwarves than Zandalari/DI, so it wasn’t pushed back, they simply changed which came first, and it makes complete sense in this case.
I rather wait longer for KT/Zand and have 'em made properly than rushed, even if I want 'em real bad.
