Apparently we do, atleast we did when Jaina made her ship fly, blew up a wall, and froze the Blight⌠I mean youâd think she found a way to counter the Blight, since its been around since WoTLK⌠So how is this any different, exactly? D:
And it is reasonable, I mean, I know characters can get more powerfull and find more knowledge about things, obviously; but when in Cataclysm most races bar Humans were immune to raising and then suddenly everyone can get raised I would love to know how amd why, if it was as Aerilen said, because of her deal with Helya Iâd think that would be a neat way to do it. But currently Sylvanas, Jaina and Anduin randomly get powerups out of nowhere just so have them appear all powerfull for the sake of outâŚ
Luckily I never said that, so Iâ wondering the same.
Please donât get me started on that one. I mean the eyes are cool, but the lore behind it is a sh!tfest to D:<
Jaina being able to singlehandedly defeat an army without any significant effort or exertion causes crucial problems for the story (âWhy doesnât she just roll over Orgrimmar?â).
It is not the same, remotely, as âSylv can now raise Night Elves in addition to humans, dwarves, gnomes, orcs, tauren, trolls, blood elves, high elves, and more.â
If you get to grumble about the Valâkyr being able to reanimate elves, we get to grumble about Tyrande being given a significant power-up out of thin air that has apparently existed all along but she never used before, not even when the Legion was on the verge of triumph.
I hate the whole Nightwarrior thing too, its so stupid. Especially as she doesnt really archive anything other than getting a new model and black eyes.
That cinematic may have looked cool but was so dumb.

Why was it dumb? Weâre talking about someone who was about to summon the oceans to destroy Orgrimmar at one point.
You cannot say she hasnât got the capability to create a massive icefield - which neutralised the air - and turn her ship to then use an overcharged arcane barrage.
She was the Archmage of Dalaran.
She was a top student in Dalaran before that.
Sheâs been around the world. She knows what sheâs doing.
More importantly, sheâs not you nor your character.
WoW has always had their main characters be Mary Sueâs. You should not think you are capable of doing something just because a main character of the plot can do it too.
WoW is not grounded on the basis âIf they can, I should be able to too.â
Anyone angry at that cutscene does not understand the core principle of WoW - Rule of Cool outweighs anything.
If you really want to complain about unscientific magic used by Jaina, ask how she managed to freeze part of the ocean - running water is really, really hard to freeze.
Except for being able to turn a region that had previously been conquered by the Horde into an evenly matched battlefront, with no help from the rest of the Alliance.
Letâs not ignore the accomplishments of the night elves in Darkshore just because of a few undead night elves, please. They made significant gains in 8.1.
I think it is a problem when it takes no effort and they canât explain why she doesnât then do the exact same thing to Orgrimmar which, as we saw in the Baine rescue, she has zero trouble accessing.
A character whoâs powerful enough to solve things armies canât solve, on their own, is a story blackhole when they have proactive motivations rather than reactive.
Malfurion suffered the same sort of power level issue but he was (until recently) more focused on sleeping/fighting the nightmare/hippy stuff. Not so much these days.
So yeah, my problem with the Jaina cutscene is it brought that obscene power level to the forefront.
And then did it again when they made her a raid boss who can fight off 20 Titanslayers on her own, with only minor injuries afterwards.
Woah that was a bit aggressive towards me and my character off the back of a fairly innocuous comment.
Broadsiding a city with magic canons on a ship you are flying with magic at the same time, that you just raised from the bottom of the ocean where your dead dad was who you killed but also uses a powerful ice spell to remove something that before that was previously unremovable and deadly, hence why itâs threat all while looking super rad.
???
Sure it may get people going whoop whoop, but then at the same time it is so over the top ridiculous that it just leaves you dumbstruck. Why did she need to fly over on the ship, why couldnât she just park it up on the shore like a normal person? daughter the sea? more like daughter of the sky.
Itâs not about power level here, thatâs a point that Iâm not going to labour because near enough every major WoW character is guilty of having wildly inconsistent power levels depending on the situation. Itâs about how utterly ridiculous the idea of the scene is. You go from a fairly normal siege on Lordaeron with a bit of nasty blight thrown around and a showcase of what Azerite can do, straight into one character pretty much making that whole battle pointless because she could have just done it all herself.
Itâs awful writing and an awful showcase of what Jaina is capable of. She can be powerful without being so comically over the top.
In fact itâs exactly like that Shadowlands âleakâ where the battle of Stormwind happens and then randomly Bolvar turns up and starts killing off Horde leaders.
Itâs poor writing that looks cool on paper but is actually just a bit dumb.
Characters can be powerful and are without writing them like an eight year old who just watched Power Rangers.
EDIT: Woah that was a big old rant, donât know where that came from.
I like Jaina, but that cinematic. Hoo boy, it triggers something deep inside of me.
