[Spoilers] Shadowlands Alpha

Likely gonna stick to Disc or Holy Priest for Shadowlands it seems.

Disc is the saving grace of the priest for me

Never had the brain capacity for Disc.

I’m still an idiot while playing it. Could be worse, could be better but yeah the spec doesn’t benefit from Wow’s basic UI so you need numerous addons to even perform decently.

Tyrande is a terrible leader: The Expansion.

Illidan has no idea the shot he’s missing by being off-world atm.

That’s basically my issue. As much as I think it’s a cool fantasy for a spec, I don’t care enough to go load up addons just to have an overview of what I’m doing.

Addons sure can make it a little easier but the standard raid frames with some mouseover macros should be enough in most cases.
Oh, and enabled enemy nameplates.

I really want them to kill off Valeera. They always put her on the Horde side with things. She is not a Horde adversary and I wish people would complain about it more because it pisses me off.

She represents nothing of her people, has never done anything to help the Horde yet because she’s the sex appeal of the Blood Elves they’re always like “hurrdurrr put her in the horde side xDDDDDD”

Please Blizzard, learn your own lore. She only helps herself and the Wrynn Dynasty. So why would she stand BEHIND Lor’themar when the whole premise of the SL intro is to find Anduin missing in the Maw… WHY WOULD SHE BE ON THE HORDE CONCERNED SIDE?

Urgh, I’m so fed up with her character. I really want her dead. I hope she actually dies in the Maw and is perma-killed.

I’m starting to see a pattern here and it disheartens me, to be honest. It looks like they set themselves some kind of obligatory +3 new hairstyle threshhold which everyone should get in order to sell this like a major expansion feature. I mean, even considering that humans are getting TWO COMPLETELY NEW AND UNIQUE sets of body and face textures, even they are getting just +3 new hairstyles per set.

I might be wrong here but I think so far just the night elves and the tauren have got the more expansive customization updates, while it looks like everyone else will have to settle with a more modest “+3” range of updated customization.

While I completely understand that they have a limited amount of resources that they can put into this, I kind of expected a bit more from the FIRST real customization update since the introduction of the barbershop back in 2008…

Now, my only hope is that after sinking this much time and effort into reworking their character customization framework we can expect to see more updates coming in gradually with smaller patches instead of waiting for the next expansion or more.

Oh and, yeah: I am really disappointed with the troll updates. We had to wait this much time for them and it’s all we’ve already seen back in November. Nothing new for trolls. No customizable highlighs for old hairstyles. You can’t even pick the color for the new ones. I would love to see zandalari haircuts ported over because I still don’t understand why those are exclusive to the allied race only. I would also really love to see a more complex hairstyle customization — the tauren can customize two different parts of their hair, I think it should be available to other races as well.

Don’t get me wrong, I am really happy they are finally doing something about one of the WORST character customization in any MMO ever, but after waiting this long for it I expected a little bit more…

I’ve watched the Shadowlands/maw Intro. It looks great but I can’t help but think it seems rather pro-Alliance. Alliance characters speak to you like you’re best friends/an Alliance player even if you’re on Horde. Jaina once again is able to do everything with magic, Anduin is extremely calm despite being personally tortured by Sylvanas, Thrall is wounded for half of it until Anduin heals him and is portrayed as a bit of a bumbling idiot (throwing his axe at Helya, then being really fussy about weapon choice while the player helps him find a replacement) and Baine once again doesn’t really do anything. Also, Zandalari players are forced to once again work with the girl who lead the assault on Dazar’alor. Poor mons can’t catch a break.

It doesn’t look bad or anything, in fact it looks rather fun. Reminds me of the Broken Shore’s first assault, just done through questing instead of a scenario. I just can’t help but think the Alliance get portrayed in the better light here…Except Tyrande. She rushes off immediately and isn’t heard again because it’s her turn to be portrayed as the worst faction leader in the game.

Also, there’s more lore about the portal link that can be used to traverse between Azeroth and the Shadowlands: https://twitter.com/TheRedShirtGuy/status/1276280133188497409

I think that, deep down, she no longer wishes to be leader. She’s probably leaving that to Malfurion, Jarod and the like.

Wouldn’t surprise me if that was the case. She’s basically the best protection for her people at the moment and she’s abandoned them all to go hunt Sylvanas alone.

Though we are missing a lot of context (the upcoming novels, future unimplemented content with Tyrande etc) so who knows.

We do know that her quest involving Elune is end content, likely the Night Fae Campaign. But you really can’t blame her for being ticked off. She’s found herself on the trail of the one who ordered her home burned, and she’s like a predator chasing down prey.

Of course. Shame that imo, Blizzard are writing her as an inept and reckless budding villain who (if Jaina’s speculation in the intro is any indication) is losing control of the power she’s got. You’d think a 10k+ year old priestess would be more wiser, but alas.

Thankfully the dialogue of the Night Warrior scenario suggests that diving Elune’s power will save her, and since the Night Warrior power amplifies rage and vengeance, it may cool her jets a bit. She may be able to get her wits together and form a solution, even if she still hates the Horde. Hey, a reunion with Ysera may be in order to calm her nerves since she’s in the Shadowlands.

And this looks interesting.

Thrall loses his new axe after throwing at a “sea hag.” Helya? Hopefully this means he’ll get the Doomhammer back!

It was definitely Helya. She’s in command of the Mawsworn forces.

Ah, good to see she’s back! I think the kvaldir may be upset they just got ditched in favour of the Mawsworn.

Calia standing by the side of the Horde in the intro. It’s as I feared.

Valeera as a character itself is fine. Its just Blizzard “abusing” it. Or not acknowledging that races can be loyal to anything else but Horde/Alliance. Same goes with Calia.

As a matter of fact; where are the proper representatives of the Horde? Its just Elves, a Human and a Troll. Where is the Orc-/Goblin-representative… Hell where is the Zandalari or Vulpera one if they really had to search for characters to add to that?

For once its the Alliance-side of things thats more racial divers with their Night Elf, High/Void Elf, Gnome, Dwarf and Worgen.

The player is a Gnome; for him Calia is neutral, Thalyssra and Valeera are friendly and Rok’han and Lor’themar Theron are hostile… So I suppose that would make 2 of the Horde leaders actually 100% Horde, 1 Neutral and 2 Friendly with the Alliance… :stuck_out_tongue:

Also I would like to point out the irony of Calia telling Tyrande how to lead her people, while she left her own to rot and die because she didn’t want to be Queen or lead her people after what Arthas did… Even if she needed her.
