My vote also went to a tree.
A tree that has been turned into a book.
A book for giant nerds.

I can’t wait for the mount vote to cause more internal player conflict than the actual faction conflict expansion itself.
Of course, such conflict is deserved if you’re one of those heathens who votes for anything but the Ancient or the Book.
I was torn between nerubian and tree, but I chose tree. We need a nature-themed mount!

That is a good step forward in addressing the Teldrassil matter I can praise Blizzard for that, I will not be so disingenuous as to say “There’s a lot more who died there.” because I don’t want to see a Legion of unnamed NPCs for the sake of numbers. I can settle with named NPCs (Maybe untargetable Wisps as well to bulk things up).
However… It’s just a step taken on a path to a multi-faceted problem. All I’ve seen is one step taken towards the fate of those who died and another on the road of vengeance through Tyrande… Maybe a teensy one regarding the relocation of the Nelves to Hyjal but that’s just spoken, not shown.
I just hope this won’t be it. Blizzard has a tendency of doing the bare minimum on things like these instead of drawing the full potential.
Wow, well hey, I sure didn’t need my Feels this morning.

Datamined info suggests that the real big bad/s of WoW isn’t who we expected - it’s the Dreadlords, in the service of Death.

As Il’gynoth and N’zoth said:
‘The cunning ones kneel before six masters, but serve only one.’
‘The vassal of life disguises treachery. Beware the eyes of green.’
‘The Light has struck a bargain with the enemy of all.’
The one in Light? Lothraxion?
It makes sense, though. They manipulated Sargeras into starting his Crusade to splinter the Pantheon while also keeping their fingers deep in the Legion.
‘Coming across a world that had been completely infected by monstrous aberrations known as Old Gods, the titan ruthlessly interrogated a conclave of nathrezim demons who dwelled on the black world.’
‘Six seats at the high table. Six mouths that hunger. One will consume all others.’
Honestly after they’ve been throwing threats into the plot seemingly at random based on what sounds cool at the time, having Dreadlords be the thread that pulls them all together sits right with me. This is basically the best possible way to solve it after they wrote themselves into the current situation.
I’d rather it be an antagonist that kickstarted the story of WoW chronologically going all the way back to them seducing Sargeras is much better to me than just making yet another threat that was responsible all along. This seems much more in line with the Dreadlords’ MO, and having Lothraxion be a sleeper agent sounds dangerously cool and explains some things in story I raised some eyebrows about.
Dreadlords used to be my favourite villains in WC3 and this is makes me really happy.
Any Dreadlords in chat?
If that is the case… I’m torn (in a good kinda way)
As Telaryn says, that would sit very nicely, and it would be a very nice tying up of various threads that, otherwise, would feel all kinds of messy.
On the other hand, if this is the finalisation of a Long Game… why the heck are other areas of the lore such a freaking mess?! I’ve repeatedly stated it feels like they don’t have a Lore Bible, and if it turns out they do but it’s just, like, very selective? … I dunno how I feel about that!
I’m not really sure if I like the narrative decision to have another big bad behind all the current big bads, who also have a finger in every cosmological pie (and everything on the Chronicles chart).
This presumably goes;
Dreadlords -> Void Lords -> Old Gods -> Faceless/Aqir/etc
Dreadlords -> Sargeras -> Burning Legion -> Demons
So on and so forth.
If it was going to be anyone, I suppose it would be them, but I sorta miss when there wasn’t a stated (usually without telling) level of 5D chess going on at all times with the story.
Ideally this wouldn’t be the case, but this is the situation we find ourselves in, so Dreadlords are the best possible outcome for salvaging it and pulling those disjointed story threads together.
But when will it turn out the Dreadlords are being manipulated by an even bigger bigger bigger big bad, the dreaderlords
there’s always a bigger fish
Yeah I’m okay with dreadlords playing both sides so they always come out on top. Fits their profile.
like a little russian doll
Isnt the leader of Revandreth a Dreadlord too?
