[Spoilers] The War Within Launch Thread

Set out with the expectation to find him annoying but boy’o was I wrong.

He’s really quite endearing.

Kinda wish Alleria just headbutted Xal’atath. Several times.

Yeah I like him too. He doesn’t feel fake.

It isn’t really the Alliance and the Horde that undo it.

Asude from the very leader of the Oathsworn, who was already bending his directive. The PC’s actions as well as the various storylines across the lvling zones kinda make it clear that the Earthen as a people begun to yearn for more “freedom”, many of them are painted as curious and actively bend their directives to explore personal desires.

The pacing of it could use some help, sure. But it isn’t exactly pulled out of nowhere.

Yes, that’s why we have Unbound and Oathsworn before we even show up. That wasn’t my point at all. Wait, did you actually understand what my point was?

I get the feeling that the writer responsible for the niffen is still at large and got their hands on the nerubians.

So much of their writing seems to boil down to the squirting of pheromones, being squirted with pheromones and descriptions of how everything nerubian, even their currency, is “saturated with aromas.”

It’s a bit more subtle and doesn’t involve lots of infuriating sniffing sound effects like Zaralek Cavern did, but it’s still a little uncomfortable.

Be careful Shogg… Some Blizzard dev will sneak up on you and sniff right against your nape checking your pheromones  .

Somewhere, Maarod nods, pleased with this direction of the game.

As someone not playing, do the Nerubian suddenly no longer see? Pretty sure that wasn’t a prominent aspect of them in WotLK so having this pheromones angle seems needlessly contrived… Did they really not want to go through another similarity joke with the Suramar “An Illusion? What are you hiding?” moment?

Didn’t need to be flashbanged by memories of musky husky draenei

One thing I do like about the War Within is that there’s alot of “older” races compared to previous expansions.

Arathi.
Earthen.
Nerubians.
Kobolds.
Fungarians.
Drogbar.
And apparently Niffen?

Good stuff with only a few new intelligent races!

Honestly think the setting has enough races to float it for a while, from Azeroth to Outland. It’ll be good to flesh out what already exists. Hell, kobold and nerubians have been elevated massively by a dash of attention.

Edit: This expansion also has the first Warcraft 3 reference which hasn’t been nauseating either, with an old message from Anub’arak begging for aid against the Scourge.

It’s just a bit much. Some spiders do emit pheromones but Blizzard takes this to the next level by making every single storyline feature at least one or two quests about pheromones.

  • “Let me squirt you with my pheromones, champion. No one will question your presence once you smell like you are my servant.”
  • “Squirt these prisoners with an overseer’s pheromones, it will make the guards think that they have right of passage.”
  • “You need to infiltrate this location. You need to acquire the pheromones of this particular boss so that the minions think you belong there.”

I swear that pheromones get mentioned even more than the most recognisable trait of spiders, their ability to spin webs. When I think of spider people, I don’t think “ah yes, their culture shall revolve around squirting each other with musk,” which is why this feels so odd to me.

Just finished the main campaign and a bunch of sidequests and got to level 80, I’ve been having fun

My biggest gripes are Anduin being annoying and Xal’atath being conceptually cool but very annoying (she just smirks and nothing ever happens to her)

Highlights of the show are Dagran and Moira, and the Weaver, really enjoying the Nerubian zone overall so far. I get that it’s Suramar 2.0 but I’m having a blast and the funny little spider guys are great

The Arathi zone is visually really impressive and I liked the mysterious li’ll fish quest but I don’t care much for its story or questing otherwise, controversially I think. Faerin’s cool I guess, annoying that she gets tied to Anduin all the time

I mean, we can be controversial together. I HATED Hallowfall.

But i also agree with everything else you said.

Sick to death of Xal’atath, sick to death of Alleria and sick to death of Anduin and its only been a week.

So all in all, more dwarves pls.

Is it controversial if I say that I can’t stand Dagran? He’s the worst character in the expansion for me.

Your opinion is allowed. Even if it is wrong.

I won’t say I can’t stand him, but I don’t think he comes across as very… dwarvish???

Mind, I love he finally gets development and presence, but… I don’t know how to explain it better??

Also, where is his beard???

Edit: don’t mind him bieng curious and bookish, but a bookish dwarf should be more Brann and less… whimpy Anduin??

People will see one (1) male character in WoW that isn’t overly muscled warrior man that slays all evil and is instead just a curious little guy and dub him the worst immediately :pensive: :pensive:

casting rocks at loras, frankly

nuh uh i like soft boys in all kinds of media, dagran just grates on me every time he gets any dialogue

You’re a mAnduin fan?

Me too!

:handshake:

L take right there.

idk where you get ‘whimpy Anduin’ from when Dagran’s actively doing things and being generally useful throughout the quests you have with him versus Anduin crying non-stop because he did one thing wrong once and now can’t do anything anymore and he’s sad and full of doubt and btw did you know he’s having doubts and that this impacts his ability to do things
