my view on dagran is nothing to do with whether or not he’s masculine enough (the less toxic masculinity in wow the better) he just annoys me. maybe it’s his voice? just don’t like him simple as.
Ok, I might’ve worded it badly
He just comes across as not dwarf too me??? I DON’T KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN MYSELF
i don’t really like brann either. possibly just hate dwarves
I was a little peeved when Dagran had that brief cutscene of trying to sneak out up on a skardyn because he was just so darn curious. I’m not fond of that “silly smart guy is so clever that he’s actually dumb” sort of writing.
I learned to appreciate him more when he proved himself to be useful later on, by using his knowledge of Titanic technology to assist you. He’s still guilty of the sin of being a faction leader (or at least a leader-to-be) who doesn’t have anything better to do than accompany you on adventures, but he’s useful in an interesting way and isn’t unbearably quirky like other smart guy characters we’ve had to deal with before.
If there are any characters that I just don’t like at all, I think I struggle with Adelgonn and some of the other Earthen. Their personalities seem to be very inconsistent. In the space of ten seconds, they can go from being semi-robotic to being silly, quirky and emotional. I especially dislike their voice direction, with their slow and ponderous dialogue full of dramatic pauses.
Hates Scottish people and their voices.
I knew the online-leftie-ism was just a charade; reveal your true face, Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher.
I’m coming for his milk next.
They do tend to be very one-note, which is easy to flanderise.
Of course when they did get a hint of nuance with Moira, that flame got doused for years until its embers finally flared again in Dagran’s short story.
Why do you own yourself like this?
Far as I know he’s mostly about on his femboy anyhow.
Anyway, I’ve also gotten through the main campaign and, so far I can say it’s… decent. Though I do feel as if rushing through the main campaign gives you alot less chance to get to know the zones you’re in.
Alleria’s and Anduin’s problems also seem to get solved pretty fast, and it turns out he does not even meet Xal’atath during his kidnapping ( there goes our joke about him getting involved with purple women who really aren’t good for him all the time).
I also found the part where the Earthen all became Unbound to be rather funny, with the giant Titan Doombot immedeatly showing up for Exterminatus.
All in all though, I think the expansion is okay, I definetly look forward to learning more about Earthen, Nerubians and Arathi. For this expansion atleast feels a bit more warcrafty again to me due to fleshing out races we already know ( the kobolds and their obsession with candles finally making sense).
Do hope Anduin gets his redemption soon though, for the moping does get tiring. I usually am not the sort to tell people to “just get better” when they got mental troubles, but come on, the dude was -forced- to do the things he did.
Also, on a mechanical note rather than a narrative one, there’s a few minor gripes that I’ve got with hero talents.
- I’m a little disappointed that Pack Leader has been under-tuned to the point where it’s a suboptimal choice for both Survival and Beast Mastery. This means that as a hunter, my choices are playing suboptimally or choosing one of two specs that just don’t mesh with this character’s aesthetic. Unfortunate.
- Earlier this year, I expressed concerns about particular hero talents overcrowding the screen with NPCs. I can safely say that Unholy Riders of the Apocalypse are absolutely miserable to fight against in PvP. Not only are the Horsemen visible to other players, but they are targetable and have so much HP (over ten million) that attacking them is pointless. Trying to target the actual death knight and not his swarm of his minions and horsemen is very annoying.
They can see that you’re a twolegger just fine, even if their sight is limited.
The pheromones do not serve as a disguise at all, but rather as a mark that you’re there on the business approved by this or that hotshot nerubian.
As for the niffen comparison, I find the nerubians… fairly tolerable in comparison? It’s still weird but at least I can just view it as ‘alien culture’ weird instead of ‘whoever wrote this has a serious thing for stink that they should’ve kept out of their writing’ weird.
Baby steps.
Yeah, similar boat here. I found PL immensely boring but the other 2 are just elf aesthetics (one of which even evil necromancer elf), which does not fit an orc archer in the slightest.
Very unfortunate.
My goal has been accomplished then.
The mind controll Anduin got seems so tailored to be as ambiguous as possible. He knows it’s Sylvanas who threw him at the Jailer’s mercy. He knows that he’s being compelled to fight/kill but apparently he agonises over the fact that rather than Zovaal accentuating his inner darkness (as if, hah!) or hollowing him until he’s nothing but an empty vessel and tool, which by the way was his original take back in Korthia, Anduin feels that he might have been a murderous edgy lil’ boy all along and he finally acted on his intrusive thoughts.
The identity crisis thing better be resolved halfway through the expansion or by the end of it because people don’t really have the patience for it. Even Alleria’s familial struggles with Turalyon at least are laid to rest in the first patch.
I’m not… Convinced. For a people to be this unquestioning regarding “Overcrawlers” being given a stink of approval doesn’t totally sits right with me. Thanks for answering this specific part but I still get the vibe of “writer’s barely disguised fetish”.
I haven’t had the patience for it since Shadowlands ended, tbf
You didn’t had to deal with it in DF bar a single conversation about him being sighted here and there. His crisis here is just a reminder of a terrible expansion with awful lore, awful pacing, awful controversies… So yeah I can’t blame anyone for feeling miffed on the meta or in-lore angle.
There’s also the morality of failing his duties as a King for 5 or 6 years. Struggling with his severe issues is absolutely understandable, but he should at least have the grace to formally step down rather than pulling Stormwind (and the Alliance) along for that amount of time. He’s supposed to be High King, damnit!
Just my two cents.
Didn’t know he led the united dwarven clans!
Only due to nepotism
Isn’t the High King supposed to lead the whole Alliance? Or at least facilitate the different nations, like Varian did. Instead he’s left them all to do it themselves. Not a problem if it’s only himself he needs to worry about, but when we’ve got a global superpower waiting on him for half a decade, then it becomes an issue!
Of course it’s not as if they’re incapable of doing that themselves. I’d argue it’s the principal more than anything.
It is. And it was a mistake from Blizzard for ever creating the title of High King, or having a High King lead the Alliance.
A supreme Commander to lead their combiend Armies when necessary? Sure! Good Idea and great plan!
A High King who can decide what kind of government will rule the Dwarves or decide what other Faction Leader can or cannot do? No. Not a great plan with an Alliance.
Having the newest faction leader of the Alliance become High King and then have that title pass to his 20-something son, instead of having the leaders choose a new one with experience and age on his side, also not a great idea.
All-in-all the addition and execution of the whole High King title and rank has been nothing but a disgrace from Blizzard part and it should’ve been done away with sooner then later. Alas.
The title of high king only really comes by the consent of the governed anyway. Tyrande showed that at the end of BfA when she goes ‘lol nope’ to an armistice with the Horde that isn’t signed with Sylvanas’ blood.
