Spy addon exploit

i read alot of topic titles about spy which i assume were complaints for it to be removed
I can confirm this addon is an exploit.
Was trying to gank zeppelin with my rogue friend but these 2 warriors were walking up and down the zeppelin trying to get him out of stealth because they knew the addon alerted them that there was a rogue nearby.
Without this addon they would have never suspected someoen was in below the zeppelin.
The fact that this addon alerts you even stealthed players is a cheat/exploit
unless combat log or whatever it is called also reports you that there is a rogue in stealth nearby which i seriously doubt.

The spy source code is public, it can be reviewed by anyone and it has no cheats/xploits, only combatlog+target+mouseover checks. Spy addon code has no supernatural powers. You are acting like a Cargo-Cult adept:

If you entered stealth within 50 yards of them, they will know that. It’s also possible to know by configuring combat log properly and paying attention to it, which most people wouldn’t bother with, but it’s definitely a thing and you can see some old pvp videos where people have their combat log open all the time.

Bottom line is, spy doesn’t expand your capabilities, but it makes things a lot easier. Which is exactly what addons are for. If anything needs a fix it would be the combat log showing information you wouldn’t know otherwise, and they already took major steps towards toning it town.

Yeh I have a problem with players on the same side I’m on because of this addon. I play druid and farm kills like everyone else for ranks, in BRM mainly. And I use humanoid tracker, but everytime a horde drops down and the near by ali warriors or priests or whoever always run around the corner as they approach yet they’re not even in the same room to know if anyone is there nevermind what faction they’re. But they only come when it’s horde and never ali.
They can see them and know if they’re horde or not, using humanoid tracker I can’t see if they’re horde or not, only way is to type /target ‘name’ but that takes too long. It annoys me, I thought I had the advantage but I’m really at a disenvantage by not using it. But I don’t want it because it won’t feel like classic.
This spy addon is like way better than the druid and hunter humanoid tracker. I also get that where people start searching for something when I’m nearby in stealth, all the time.

It doesnt alert you for stealthed players, it alerts when someone around you stealths. And his last location.

Easiest fix would be to remove the "Gain stealth"combat log information. If that info is removed, spy will be nothing more than a simple KOS/pvp addon.

Hey look guys, another guy playing the easiest class to PvP with in the game complaining about an addon that existed in 2005 that reads the combat log.

Stop emberassing yourself rogues, Blizzard already broke threat and dps addons for you, what more do you want?

Actually it’s your last location as it doesn’t automatically target the player and so have no clue where they are except that they are within 50y of you

imo, that doesn’t matter. It is an exploit of the combat log that obviously was not intended to be used that way. It’s just poor design…

You cant exploit reading the combat log. Theres also no way for blizzard to ban a single addon, any measure they can concievely make is easily avoided. The only way to deal with it is to change the underlaying api, but this can have unintended consequences, especially for core features such as the combat log as a lot of other useful addons rely on parsing logs such as DBM, bigwigs, details, recount, threatmeter etc

The combat log should be limited in wpvp so for example only the things done to you by the other faction show up (so attacking a mob or buffing yourself does not show on the other factions combat log, how it should be imo). I understand it won’t happen because its development time and so on. Personally I don’t care much about addons so I’d say screw them if it were up to me…

Whereas I do understand your frustration, the spy add-on only was probably alerting them to the fact you had just steathed within their vicinity… Which they would have heard anyway within the space of a zeplin.

A small consolation I know but I can also confirm that Spy is nowhere near as “broken” as it was before the latest nerf.

Crybabies are always crybabies.
They nerfed addon and now you want combat log nerf. Lol why?
You wanted vanilla experience, now you try to change vanilla features.
Every single day, at least 3 new spy topics by clueless people.

The combat log has been modified and is not the same as it used to be. Unknown targets tracking in the combat log is new so your statement is invalid.

Same thing what i meant with some extra words.

No. Combat log always shows it.

You rolled undead rogue, you have no reason to complain about anything.

If I was a horde warlock I’d agree, only pussies roll horde locks (and mentally disabled people roll undead lock). Alliance warlocks are almost exclusively chads though. We could’ve done like 75% of horde players and roll the easy mode faction, but instead we choose to go up against all the edgy 16 year olds that can’t win a fight when WoTF is on cooldown.

Sucks to be you, loser! :sunglasses:

It’s a new classic feature. Saying:

doesn’t even make sense.

The difference is important as a lot of players (esp. rogues) that does not use the addon ascribe it magical properties and seem to think it will show the player exactly where a stealthed rogue is
