Maybe you should have chosen an Allied Race Death Knight.
Their from the newer generation of DKs, raised by Bolvar and have voluntarily become DKs, never had their will enslaved by Arthas.
It opens up possibilities to play a “lighter” kind of DK, who hasn’t killed so many innocents.
Also, the point about alcohol is open for discussion… there’s mentioning of both (DKs can get drunk or not) in the game, so you can think of an explanation why your DK might be able to get drunk.
About emotions… well, even normal ppl are different. Some are quick to laugh / be happy, others less… DK are just more of the latter type. Still not impossible to have some humor / fun as DK… you’re just not the type to be act as an utter clown.
That’s the problem with Chromie time… you basically have to chose with part of the whole story you want to play… (you reach max lvl long before questing through all expansions) and generally you don’t get much lore in the earlier expansions. Fitting for deaht knight would still be Wrath of the Lich KIng (but there you are closer to the “evil” DKs) or Legion (since the Order Hall gives quite some lore on DKs) … or go with BfA / Shadowlands for more streamlined campaign questing (which is what I would prefer), there you get the most story, since you don’t just quest with a bunch of side quests in each zone but there’s an overarching storyline… Shadowlands would also fitt quite well for a death knight.
I edited the OP since there are lots of replies that didn’t see my following responses.
It still bothers me a bit how some have discussed that DKs do not enjoy any of the matters mentioned above and apparently don’t really even remember anything, nor can they feel anything - if that is the case, it just makes it a bit pointless for them to do anything? I mean, you need some motivation to do something. For example, having finished the starting zone, I want to avenge Arthas - but if DK’s don’t have any emotions, my DK then would not feel this same need to avenge? Or did I get this part wrong?
What you wrote is a load of nonsense and peak revisionism.
Warcraft had its humour through gameplay, not through story. Story until Cataclysm with characters like John J. Keeshan and Harrison Jones remained serious. Story had never a moment of pop culture references at all. If you do, FIND ME ONE.
The atrocious characters that I named don’t count, everyone loathes them.
DKs can feel some things. Pain, torment, suffering. There is no joy in being death. They’re just reckless, immoral killing machines. A death knight can not be a hero, only an anti hero.
Firstly you don’t need to feel every class. I’m sure some have issues with playing a Warlock, either enslaving demons has consent concerns or dabbling in demon summoning itself is problematic. Not everyone will enjoy Rogue either. Nature lovers might be very happy with Druid but detest Hunter for all that slaughter of boars et al.
Secondly this is your character and your head-canon can be what you want it to be. The knight feels they still have a duty to serve their realm and protect it from all threats, and this duty goes beyond the grave. Or whatever you decide.
Anti-hero’s are some of the most interesting characters in my opinion, if written well. Teenage drama vampires are not interesting anti-heros (apart from Damon Salvatore at times) but neither are anti-heros who are basically nothing - there needs to be some complex constant battle inside their heads, there needs to be some emotion for one way or the other, even if addiction.
I disagree.
I think Bolvar is a hero. Arthas was an Anti-Hero, true.
A DK can’t be held responsible for their action when they were under the control of Arthas before they broke free at Light’s Hope Chapel in the Intro questline. Just like Anduin can’t be held responsible for his actions when under the control of the Jailer.
I agree, but I just want to point out to all the nature lovers out there, that hunters are an essential part of nature’s balance - you don’t want to have too much of a “beastly” creatures out there destroying nature, but you don’t want them to be extinct either. It is our job to keep the balance and help the world survive
Death Knights are hardcore old skool metal heads. We do what we want, we take what we want and we don’t care who we upset (just play their Legion ordehall campaign it’s fricking amazing).
We do this while wielding rune magic, listening to metallica and eating nachos by the bucket.
We don’t answer to any one and will never be in the service to anyone but our own.
That’s a Death Knight. We are the proverbial anti heroes.
