Steve Danuser and why his fanfic is wrong

These last few days I came to learn of Steve Danuser, the current lead writer of WoW. I did some research on the guy while reading everything the community said about him and I came to a conclusion: Something’s off.
A simple scroll through his Twitter account is enough to convince even the least involved player that this guy apparently has a weird, creepily passionate crush on Sylvanas. Yep, you read that right. He even turned Nathanos into a self-insert of himself so he could essentially be Sylvanas’ bf and call her ‘‘my love’’. If this so far sounds like a cringe teenage emo fanfiction, that’s because it is.
This guy and the writing team have literally bent over backwards to give Sylvanas and his self-insert unreal amounts of plot armor, to make Sylvanas the front and center of the multiverse and all it contains, and to show everyone how much he values his queen. They even went at great lengths lately to remove a 10-year-old Garrosh voice line that called Sylvanas a “B”. At this point I’m half expecting to go to Bastion and see Sylvanas bursting out of a cake. This weird fanfiction writing really is an explosive fustercluck, like those Goblins on that beach. You just can’t help but laugh at the burning bodies.
This is serious. It’s like the Blizzard heads spent hours on end reading mediocre fanfictions and hired the team accordingly. At first I thought the writing problems merely limited themselves to laziness, boredom, deadlines and the lack of fresh and original ideas. But this indicates otherwise. This type of stuff is something you’d expect to see on Wattpad or something. Not in a game developed by a triple-A company.
I strongly suggest Blizz gives him and the writing team their own IP to work with and not let them mess around with WoW anymore.

(Edited to make it less hostile and more readable)

I too believe that Steve makes these decisions entirely on his own without any input from the team he works with.

Oh wait no I don’t.

I never said that the team is not involved. Of course they are. Maybe I’ll edit my post to make it look less like a witch hunt prompt.

The gnome doesn’t really belong there though.

Is this a love story worse than Twilight?

Imagine being so edgy that it hurts your feelings when a bad word is taken out of something.

I wouldn’t call it a fanfic just because you don’t like it.
Oh also you never said why he’s wrong, your post is just full of tears.

And how do you know that exactly?

Yeah alliance got no plot armor right? Magic flying ships, Jaina teleporting everytime everyone out of the danger, etc…

He literally tweeted calling Nathanos “Like looking into a mirror” lmao.
His writing is trash and it shows.

As far as I know he roleplayed on Twitter with multiple wow characters. I don’t think it’s bad when the writer can see things from his char’s viewpoint.

Also I don’t think his writing is thrash, there are some questionable things for sure but overall I usually like it.

that thing died in 2009?

It was not in the RP esque tone he normally does when he does it, was flat out admitting Nathanos is a self-insert so.

If you like his writing that’s cool, different taste and all, but when the quality is visibly down to the point of making a character that was kinda cool into the biggest mary sue I’ve seen in years then it says something about the quality of writing.

Yeah wow is dead, we can move on finally.

Have you worked a day in your life?

His team can say whatever they like, but when someone with a huge ego is in charge is given the buttons all the input is going to be white noise. He will do what be likes and nobody can stop him.

And the die-hard players will gobble that up. And beg for more.

Nobody asked for Shadowlands. It isn’t Warcraft.

Sylvanas is tired and finished but they keep on beating the dead horse (elf).

I think he is voicing Nathanos so idk. I would like my own voiced charater as well a bit.

Jaina saved the day a lot more time than Sylvanas. Also I don’t really remember any scenario where Sylvanas pulled something really wtf escape. To be fair Sylvanad is in the story for decades, she is a strong character.

The only person who can stop him is Ion actually.

Do you know him? Or is that just something that you pulled out of nowhere?

Yeah, so good that you speak for everyone. Must be hard having that much ego.

The Blizzard writing team loves fanfictions. I thought this was clear from the recent romance in the new novel, that was apparently shipped by a small, but vocal community.

Steve Pirri VA’s Nathanos so no, he does not voice him just writes him.

Jaina has /a lot/ more reason to be powerful, but is often not written as such until BFA which frankly, butchered 90% of the WC3 cast.
Sylvanas was fairly powerful, but Legion+BFA and now Slands just upped her power tenfold.
Both are Mary Sues, ones just been made so for no other reason than the lead writer likes dead sugar.

Also both Jaina and Sylvanas have been in the story for decades, they’re both from WC3 so that is VERY moot point to use.
WTF escapes from Sylvanas in this expac - Intro scenario (where we also have jaina being what with the ship), the Saurfang Mak’gora (Jaina had her BoD stuff).
If there’s more eluding me someone who played horde this expac can point them out.

She gave her bow to Nathanos beforehand, I think I read somewhere that banshees can fly/teleport towards some personal things. So that was more like a planned escape.

She didn’t really escaped there. I mean technically she ran away but she didn’t get cornered nor beaten and she wasn’t in grave danger either. (Like Jaina, when Sylvanas collapsed the room on her, or when the horde champioms took her down to 5%)

My bad then.
