Its still the same price regardless of how much/little content there is. Point is, they keep on increasing the price PLUS gonna throw them out at a faster pace than usual. It’s obvious what they are trying to do. They want us to go back to play ONLY this game and nothing else. And they think the price is justified, even tho this single expansion costs more than a entire expansion pass for any single player game (which is usually 2-3 DLCs plus some free stuff). And that doesn’t include the subscription fee on top of that either (which it used to do). The only thing the game doesn’t directly have is a battle pass (even tho you can technically call the Traveler’s Log that).
having a boost for 10$ aint bad no?
Sometimes a GM allows you to switch your boost for another service of similar value like server transfer etc, I’ve done it a few times since I don’t play alts, but it really depends who reads your request
It’s nuts that you actually think them removing the boost means a lower prize for the expansion
I see the boost as a “yea we know the expansions have gotten expensive, but we can throw this thing in thats free for us and might sweeten it for you, but either way, that’s what an expansions costs”
With what, 2 teams between 100-300 people each. Outsourcing a lot of the artwork ect. As told in the preach interview at bliz HQ. Expansions become costly.
It’s outlined in the thread, the current expansion for FFXIV is 35€. As in, an expansion that is current that also includes a entirely overhauled graphics (including textures and modern options) to match the current landscape… and it’s still 35€ for the base version.
Unless TWW have more story and actual ingame rendered cutscenes than FFXIV, that excuse is bs.
It’s not “The base version is 50€ because thats how much it cost”, it’s “The base version is 50€ because that’s how much they think will be worth to players and how much they have to charge”. Big difference.
Also, FFXIV have the majority of the main story voiceacted… in 4 different languages (EN,JP,FR,GE). That’s alot of VAs being paid for it all. Again, they’re making us pay extra for stuff that we wont see for several years or even at al.
With a UI that pre dates diablo 1.
Very little challening endgame content outside their raids? No m+ ect…
Classes feel boring, they’re all the same… no talents or anything to specialize in your prefered content ect.
While i can recognize that some people might like it… for me FFXIV expansions aren’t even worth 5$… wow expansions easily are worth buying… even with a show like shadowlands, there was more fun to be had for me than in all the ffxiv expansions combined.
Additionally, FFXIV has around half the team size… developers are on average payed half or less of their US counter parts in Japan.
They too get 3 raids per expansion, but with only 3-5 bosses per raid… and each expansion last longer than wows.
And while saying they have lots of voice acted quests ect… i am sorry, unless you have people like Brad Pitt doing the voice acting, it actually doesnt add all that much to production costs. As your average voice actors are taking home huge paychecks. Yes, it does add some… but not that much.
You’re not even trying to be objective, youre just saying “i dont like the game hence its worth nothing” mentality. Also shows how much you actually know about game development outside of WoW.
Nor are you, but it was to make a point.
And i suppose your drivel is based on your vast experience as a programmer and project costs?
YOU started comparing apples to oranges when bringing FFXIV expansion up.
When the facts are.
One is developed in US where employees are payed vastly more.
One has vastly more developers attached to the project.
One is quicker to release.
And those 3 things mean a vastly different price tag.
Something you should be able to objectivly admit is true. So who’s not being objective?
What about not being objective when your main argument is “they’re paid more, so its a better game”? There is a reason why having too many cooks on a dish sometimes just makes a bland soup. And having it release faster doesnt automatically mean that the pricetag itself is justified. It’s the whole package.
And the reason i brought FFXIV up is because of said points, not everything is about money, regardless if you have more cooks or not. The game will sell itself if you have a good enough project, there are several examples out there where that exact thing has happened (like Palworld, Helldiver 2 etc.). They cost less than this entire expansion does on its own and yet they keep on racking up records after records, because people genuinely like those games.
Blizzard is not above those standards, regardless of how much you may or may not play. In fact, they started out as exactly that, people bought their games because they where genuinely enjoying their games, not because of how fast it was made or how many developers they have.
And no, I don’t have direct experience of how to run a project or experience as a programmer, but i do know how the industry work and why they work. There is a difference, yes, but if you know how to cross-reference between different projects and specially the teams themselves, you will see alot of similarities.
If that’s your take on what i said, you read wrong.
My argument is its costs more make, so its more expensive.
While my personal preference is that it’s a better game, that has nothing to do with the pricetag. And for my personal preferance a FFXIV expansion isnt worth 5$. They are just that, personal preferences.
But objectively, as you keep bringing up.
Wow expansions cost significantly more to make, so they’re also more expensive.
And your whole pal world argument … jesus… it’s a new game… people are exicted, but ones people have completed it, we’ll see what happens…
Its either gonna be left to die by lag of new content. Or the devs are gonna use some of all those millions they’ve made, to get more devs to keep the cosumers buying. To make even more money.
There is one simple truth…
People like new shiny things… it takes longer to make a new shiny thing than it takes people to grow bored of new shiny things.
Where do you exactly get your numbers from? From where do you think that WoW costs more to develop than FFXIV?
… and you probably missed my reply to another player earlier, but i’ll recant it, just in case you did miss it:
The expansion costs 50€ because we’re on the losing end of the stick (not only because the cost of making them are going up, as i explained before, is a dumb argument), having to pay for 4-5 different dev teams at once (one for retail, one (or two, not sure) for classic, one for midnight and one for tlt), while all the people playing only classic only have to pay for the sub itself. We’re the only ones that have to buy the expansion to keep on playing the latest stuff, while the classic players basically get all the new updates for “free”.
And the reason i brought up the palworld/helldiver 2 stuff is because numbers don’t lie, regardless if its a “new game” or “if they can keep it up or not”. “People like new shiny things” is still not a excuse to increase the prices on stuff for no reason.
As i explained before, make it worth it. Make my hard earned money worth the extra price they are charging. Because right of this moment, this aint it.
By looking and avg game designer salary. Of US and Japan.
And by looking up the estimated team size.
While there is a decent margin of error on the team size where they’re something between equal and wow team being 3 times bigger.
The salary difference is about on average x3…
Retail has 2 teams… they started with 2 teams back in vanilla.
Correct me if i am wrong here, but didnt TBC, Wrath and Cataclysm cost something… or is that only for HC edition?
Additionally… blizzard arent stupid… they’ve looked at what is costs to make the classic servers and held it up against what they make from it… and i promise you, they make money from it, so they dont need to have retail expansions cover anything with the classic realms.
Increasing development costs, increases the price… or do you think the price for an expansion has stayed the same over the last 18 years
Without any actual numbers, you cannot actually say that that the pay is 3x more. You do also realise that the US devs also generally live in a area where its also 3x more expensive to live? That does not translate into quality on it’s own. That’s just capitalism.
No, read up on ANY recent interview they’ve made regarding TWW… They have 4 or 5 different teams working on different things at the same time. Not just 2. That information was years ago.
Yes, because WoW Tokens are still a thing. Plenty of people still playing the game via tokens alone. And remember, tokens are more expensive than a regular sub. Also, every expansion was paid separately, even TBC, Wrath and Cataclysm (which was even less, that included box, dvd, manual, free codes etc.).
They still have no manufacturing costs, no labouring costs for said manufature, no shipping (except for the physical collectors edition).
As has been collected by many websites…
The avg salary for game developers in the US is 113.000 a year, vs the 50.000 a year in Japan.
Irrelevant to the argument. Doesnt change that bliz has to pay x2-x3 for the same developer, that does the same amount of work. If anything it further increases the cost in development for bliz as offices would also be more expensive, and there is only consumer to pay for it.
While each team might be split up in groups. Like 1 group works on classes while another on raids and so on… overall they’re 2 teams for retail.
But their terminologies can be a bit confusing here… the way blizzard over all works is team 1 for a few of the old games.
Team 2 for wow, which is further split in 2 teams.
Team 3 for diablo franchise. Which is split in multiple teams for D3, D2 Ressurected and D4
And so on
I have no idea what you’re even trying to argue with this.
Edited a few spelling errors… and added a few things…
These beers are starting to hit home. These colleagues starting to order whisky now… so cant promise any answers till tomorrow from here… currently in brazil for work xD
I’ve wasted enough time explaining as well, so at the end of the day: let us be able to choose said “extra” to justify the price-increase more than just “increased production costs”, then i’d be happy. Being able to switch out the boost for something like extra tender or whatever. That’s all i’m asking.
