I have seen some great suggestions in various threads about how features on the forums could work better. I thought it would be great if we could have a thread dedicated to this, ways we think it can be improved and hopefully some of the suggestions can be noted by the Mods and put forward on our behalf.
So keep it civil guys, this is not a thread to throw mud at other posters, just something to add ideas on how current systems work.
I will start off, shamelessly using other people’s ideas as well as my own
Flagging system. A tracking system for Mods to see if people are using this correctly.
Ignore feature: A way to make the ignore feature for alts too.
None really. These forums are running on Discourse (https://www.discourse.org/) with almost every feature enabled and a few custom things. Those custom things often break when they bump up the Discourse version - adding more custom features would only add more bugs.
I’d rather have the notifications and the layout not break, than more features.
For a long time I thought enabling PMs would be fun but with the time passing, I suspect the cons would be much much bigger than the pros.
Adding on to this a bit: when you ignore someone and they make a thread their OP just reads content not available it would be good if they could some how make that extend to when someone quotes their posts too.
If I’ve ignored them because I don’t want to read their posts then its defeating the purposes to read their posts in quotes
They already have this feature as far as I understand.
TL2 should allow posting any link and image while TL3 offers to post gifs.
Account-wide avatars. I still want to switch from my blue Panda to a green one but I simply can’t do this without giving up my name and “progress” I have on this character.
I would like this, there are a couple of forum dwellers that I just don’t care for. Muting them permanently and not being able to see anything they post, would be fantastic!
I’ve been looking at the facilities offered by Discourse and they have a ‘badge feature’ so it says you can get a badge, the suggested use was for ‘good conduct’.
As a visual that might be interesting to quickly see where you are at in TL. So awarded badges as you scale up until you have the 3 badges for TL3, although I know it may not be the comprehensive way to check progress you possibly want.
Does everyone see your badge? I would have reservations about implementing that feature here if they do because some users already target people for having TL3 as it is.
I think having an in the last 100 days type counter on our profiles would be a better option.
Me too Uruk, would love everybody to start out at TL3 and then just lose privileges if they misbehaved. I personally think people would be more inclined to follow rules if there was a chance of them losing the ability to post links/gifs
