Anyone expirienced Survival Hunter in PvE?
How is it? Is it worth playing? I’m not looking to be the best damage dealer. I was just hoping not to be the worst. I heard Warriors are bad so I wanted to try this hunter instead, and I think it’s more fun.
Survival has good aoe but really bad singletarget right now so if u want to m+ its probably fine but for raids u should probably look into a different class
Thank you very much! I’d change specs for raiding I guess
Really? I thought it was ST that was better for SV.
In bfa it was like that due to us having the blur of talons azerite + we also ran the birds of prey talent. But we lost the azerite in shadowlands and we have alot less haste so birds of prey isnt as good as it was.
In shadowlands we also got a huge buff on our bombs which is the majority of our dps in aoe so our aoe is alot better now
Survival is just a boring spec for me, has lower dps in aoe and single target than other specs. In pvp, if you want to feel like using Svlk-14 then mm is your spec.
Survival has several problems. You are effectively a melee specc tied to a ranged specc with access to the same utility. This makes the specc entirely undiserable.
Survival is decent AoE low ST, and currently MM and BM out DPS it.
Im afraid they are the worst, warrior is a better DPS option.
If your melee specc is tied to a ranged specc, Ur melee speccs never gonna be meta nor close, because ranged is just regarded as the preferred damage dealer.
Also they likely keep survival low intentionally because it’d annoy alot of hunters if their BiS was their melee specc.
Going into dungeons with my SV hunter I am either top or 2nd best dmg. Just to say that SV Hunter feels just fine to me
But I should also mention that as BM I do the same dmg as when I play SV. The difference is that BM takes a lot less effort to get the same dmg output
However I still go SV because I like it better
It’s such a shame Surv is ignored by both Blizz and the playerbase. its my favourite Hunter spec and Blizz either needs to redesign it to Ranged again or actually give it the attention it needs.
i dont play melee classes so i never tryed it.
As they say dont bring a melee to a gun fight
It’s aight.
You got 2 more buttons than you had in BFA
Kill shot and covenant ability.
Depending on which on you chose you might even be able to macro it into your burst.
There’s nothing new. If anything it feels less complicated than BFA since we lost all our Azurite traits, that are kind of dangled in our face like a supposed reward for building legendaries.
You probably won’t be raiding with it, since you don’t bring anything to a party, and the other 2 specs do more damage with less effort.
But I mean it’s still fun to play. If a bit slow right now.
I like how survival plays - it does decent damage and is fun! That said, I still ended up switching to MM and BM on my hunters - there are other good melee classes out there, but not too many fun ranged ones (especially when it comes to mobility).
But Neo…
Repeating again, unless you do WF/Top-10 world raiding play whatever you want.
Survival atm plays abit slower than it did in BFA (with gear it gets better) and currently has more AoE dmg than ST dmg, though it is still decent and just has the same flaw it’s had since Legion: being a melee spec with ranged options in the class.
Survival is a very fun and versatile spec with a utility kit that rivals batman. While other melee get’s shut down by certain mechanics SV hunters can keep on kicking, hell if you can’t melee at all we can just equip a gun, fun in places like AV. It is very consistent damage dealer that doesn’t rely on cool downs as much as say DK’s. Something i don’t like however is that it’s very reliant on high haste to feel good to play. At low haste it can handle like a semi- with a broken axle.
But i love the utility the most, as a SV hunter i have: ranged stun, freezing trap, stealth, sprint, fetherfall whenever i feel like it, healing debuff/ranged snare, aoe snare, an emergency tank, magic /enrage dispell, bloodlust, damage mitigation, damage immunity and feign death to cheese mechanics(add NE racial to that)
Plus we have fantastic mobility, with featherfall and disengage you can straight up soar across Revendreath like a god damned eagle. There’s also fun tricks like jumping and turning around, hitting disengage and harpooning a target to cover a huge gap. Disengage is generally a godsend for just getting around and avoiding mechanics.
The other hunters also have that but i don’t see how that makes SV worse. You pick SV hunter cus you like playing melee classes and you want that batman utility.
It’s like saying other classes bring more ranged damage and you can get the utility from elsewhere, why even bring hunters at all? Unless you play at cutting edge content and/or you only view classes as tools to get you to the finish line, you don’t really give a crap if it’s melee, ranged, esthetics, class fantasy or even fun. Winning is fun, everything else is just noise and you wouldn’t make threads like these. But that’s what the big boys are doing so people tend to emulate.
I also don’t get this low dps noise, it’s nothing i’ve seen while playing and certainly not while leveling where my SV hunter did better than most. On Warcraftlogs it’s also around the middle except the highest procentile, who also are the people least likely to pick it. I dunno, maybe i’m being silly, but sometimes i get the impression that some are just biased against it. Like, of course it has issues, but it doesn’t deserve it’s reputation either. Maybe people that are obsessed with putting things in tier lists, call a 3% diffirence significant and organizing things aren’t too fond of something as unorthodox as a melee hunter.
Survival hunter has gotten boring since they butchered the spec going into BFA. mongoose bite not being part of what constitute the core of the spec has made it dull to play. even talenting into it feels somewhat stupid as it is tied to focus.
moreover, serpent sting animation being like you throw some kind of rock doesn’t feel great at all.
and in the end, flanking strike also got put aside to bring in kill command.
Legion survival hunter was based around ramping up damage, giving great sensation of power. now it’s just flat and dull. played hunter since 2010, was thrilled to see melee survival a thing, and disappointed seing die at BFA prepatch.
unfortunately, shadowlands brought nothing to SV hunters.
Wow that was not meant to be god damn War & Peace: hunter edition.
Tl:dr Play SV Hunter if you like the idea of dealing damage at range and melee, love being versatile with lots of tricks and want a melee class with more utility than a swiss army knife.
Well I’m not at war, i’m tired about fighting. in fact I loved way too much Legion’s take on survival, especially after 7.1 (when they finally got the spec fixed). seing what it had become plunges me into infinite sadness. I connected my old hunter for about a day, trying to put the pieces back up. then disconnected understanding that it wasn’t meant this way
delete surv, only 3% of hunters play it
any change to it is taking time away from the other 97% of hunters
