Someone called Blizard whispered to me in the game and said I had to go to gmbattle because of suspicious activity and abuse of the economy, otherwise my account was going to be suspended. At first, I thought it was legit and I tried to log in to the page, but then I saw that it was not a secure page, and I couldn’t log in anyway. Then I changed my password. Was that a try-to-hack or something? Or was it a legitimate whisper from a Blizzard GM?
Its not legit.
Blizz whispers are blue and very obviously from blizz. They will also never tell you to go to a certain site to fix things.
You need to be savvy, if it fells off, it is First off the dudes name would have been dodgy and mis-spelt. That scam message is in pidgen english and so on. Dont be awed by trying to do right by ‘authority’ and critically assess.
This goes for all the interwebs.

Ignore, total scam, if Blizzard contact yiu in game it will appear as blue text, (well used to be at least).
Edit… as you did click, run a virus scan, just for added peace of mind.

Thank you for your response, yes in the middle of it I realized it was probably a scam but I was not 100% sure. Yes, it was a normal whisper, and it was not blue. I appreciate your help and advice.

Blizzard employees/GMs will have a specific name. They will have thier own Blizzard icon beside their names too.
Blizzard doesn’t inform you on any character named “Blizzard.” If its an urgent issue then Blizzard will contact you by email.
Its a scam that’s been around for years. Notice that Blizzard is spelt wrong.

Yes, 100% that was a good thing you did. I would also advise getting an aethenticator app on your phone as well.
Another layer of protection.
Never ever log in through a link someone sends you unless it can be verified. Most scam links will be on pretty obviously fake domains on a second glance.

Yes, I got the authenticator as well like two weeks ago. Now I appreciate it more.
Yes, I heard a lot about phishing, but never expected it to happen in-game but now I know, and I will be more careful in the future.

It’s good that you realized as quickly as you did. Too many people don’t. The advice the others here have given pretty much covers everything, but keep being skeptical of things like this in the future too

That’s part of the threat though; no one expects it to happen to them. That’s part of what the scammers bank on.
Though at the same time. Scam mails tends to include obvious errors to filter out the gullible.

Well, that’s all part of it. They are spreading their net wide and aiming for the easily scammed. The people who aren’t viligant and will be too trustworthy.
Good choice because you’d just given the old one to gmbattle. If you use that password+email combination anywhere else, change it there too because now they’re on an automated list that bots will try to login to thousands of sites with.
Always pay attention to where people want you to go, and never underestimate how many malicious scams are out there. Assume it is a scam until proven otherwise.

Yes, that is true, that can be costly if we are not cautious. But this was a great lesson for me, from now on I am super suspicious of these kinds of whispers, emails., etc.
