Sylvanas the high elf who did a backflip

I just tried to listen through sylvanas whole story and try to understand her bitter and merciless emotionless behavior that many horde and even alliance player adore.

Many already faintly know her backstory and i tried to re-learn her backstory (what there is left of it anyways) and try to make conclusion on why do people like her.

automatic conclusion (she is hot dead high elf) and thats about it.

BUT

is there more to it? is what i want to know.

She wanted to free undead BONE people from being controlled and give them a second chance, which falls over on its face after decade later, she turns every race into undead without any self control because she is a necromancer (how f*cking ironic) .
She couldn’t careless about anybody else but herself at this point and the champion (who is horde player) would probably been officially dead if blizzard writes would have went absolutely nuts.

Its like, dont question sylvanas Just consume her orders like she consumed every life in the burning tree or in lordaeron.

sylvanas doesnt have clear motives (maybe she did a deal with a god of death of something, who cares.)
Somebody please in this community, tell a logical and reasonable reason on sylvanas actions, motives, and why people like her soo much.

I appreciate anybody who would go on their way and explain.

Her appeal for me is about the fact that unlike every single person in horde who’s about Honor and glory, while none of them actually know what even is honorable and glorious at this point, she has a plan. She doesn’t give a damn if anyone likes or hates that plan. And she does it.

Too many vanilla boring characters in both factions. Worst being anduin. Something a little more interesting is much better to see.

As for her plans and why she’s doing what she’s doing? Consider this blizzard’s poor storytelling skills. They create the story, which could potentially be very interesting. But the pacing and the reveals are just awful. Very slow, very inconsistent and poorly executed. Which is why, i’d rather wait and see than to judge right now.

I think its good idea to wait before execute the judgement but, it feels like a rollercoaster build within 10 hours with maximum budget and the end result is a life hazard.
There has been soo much on about honor, betrayal, death and so on and the last thing i needed is “So long b*tches, imma leave you loosers and go kill lich king because why not. i have my own expansion now”

I have nothing wrong about stronger character approach, i talked about this in my other post where i talked about garrosh being the warchief because he is straight forward orc who wants violance.
while sylvanas back pedals every failed plan she makes and than somehow she has the audacity to be judgmental about other characters motives and choices, while she executes the order 66 within every new mission.

As far as I’ve understood.

Slyvanus’s motivations now lay where the Arthus’s were

Removing 2 factions and bringing everyone on azeroth into death, she feels life is a prison and people are free in death.

Her first statement in vanilla was “we are using the horde to gain power” and made it clear it wasn’t a permanent thing.

Ngl she has from the very start been this way, she was a high elf at one point yes, but she’s at several times shown the fact her view on life has only gotten more bitter over time, when the lich king killed her trying to save the family and murder them anyway she saw the futileness of “hope”

Also everyone she kills empowers the jailer who in turn empowers her.

Basically she hasn’t thought it through properly.

If they were hoping to repeat the Kerrigan arc (Which would be insulting frankly, to pull the same rubbish trick twice) then they have fallen at the first hurdle.

Sylvanas has very few greater Val’kyr left. So very few. Her personality has been boingflipped around so much that she is not a credible leader any more, or even a credible villain. She hates everyone in the world enough to view their deaths as somehow liberating them… “Yeeeaaah, doesn’t really work when you, yourself chickened out of dying”

-If- she knew about the Maw (and the signs are that she did) then she is -not- freeing us from a Prison at all. She literally just sent a truckload of people to it, empowering it, she did exactly what we’re now expected to believe was not her aim, knowing what would happen. That’s like someone going “I’m going to work out, pump some muscle, but first I’ll shoot myself in the arm, because that will help!”

She is just not mentally stable enough to make these decisions. Existence in our world is a prison? So why go to what are described as pretty huge lengths to ensure that her human boytoy (because Windrunners are Elven trailer trash) is still around to see it in a new visually appealing body? Why not wave him on his merry way as one of those you have through your selfless efforts ‘saved’?

Why, does she knowingly go “I’ll free everyone” by sending them to a place with pretty draconian laws that is under the threat of destruction by the very power that -she- is terrified of to a degree that she cheated death a second time?

I mean I know Elves are selfish in WoW, I kind of like them for that, but there is such a thing as consistency. But then, ehh, she’s a Windrunner, that family is cursed to make no sense.

yeah i have heard theres actually been several retcons on her throughout the process also, apprantly in a book she actually states to dispise being made a warchief yet later says it was apart of her plan in another source? XD

That doesn’t contradict itself though. Even if it was part of her plan back then it doesn’t mean she had to like it all.

To be honest me personally I don’t have any issues with Sylvanas character directly. She is not my favourite character, never will be but originally I was indifferent.

One of the problems I have is the way it is so blatant in the way she is being rammed down our throats. She was always subtle and working in the background before. Now every story seems to be about her and in truth I am just tired of her being on my screen.

Finally and for me the biggest issue is her fanatical fans. They are just plain weird!!! I can have a debate with anyone about anything and if you say one bad thing about Sylvanas some lunatic Blood Elf or crazied undead will jump down your throat. Even if they have said nothing in the conversation previously. They are nuts!!!

So not really issues with her more around Blizz putting her over and her fans.

Plus I think I must be the only person who thinks she isn’t hot. I really don’t think she is.

Evil characters are good as long you have some type of connection to them.

One of my absolutely favorite video game villains is from bl2 (handsome jack) absolute charismatic as*hole who will scoop eye balls from people and kill and change anything he wants but when you play enough, you see why he does it, you see why he is soo deter mended to his cause of the personality fix that he has going and he is dead straight forward to his plans.

Sylvanas of course has suffered allot, she got killed by arthas and had to destroy her own town of people but after that she had a motive to have a revenge to destroy the evil and free the undead people to have the choice of freedom,
After that there hasnt been a clear motive on why she keeps making, bad plans, agreeing on teaming up with alliance on broken shore and has this bitter personality not only to the characters in horde but the player as well.

I wouldnt have any problems with sylvanas and how she is, as long it didn’t effect other characters around them, basically she is like forced to be in horde and than left with little to no good reason other than power.

its like if you were in a car and your friend drove it and crashed it into a tree and leaves.

Like couldnt sylvanas just leave the horde and start her own legion of undead followers? legit better idea than what blizzard has come up with at this point.
becuase i can clearly see that she hates horde, she dispice everybody in it and it makes no literal sense for her to be in it for so long time.

If you have rotten apple in a barrel with other apples, you wouldnt keep the damn rotten apple in the barrel.

Horde is never about honor and glory.

There is nothing honorable in invading azeroth from draenor. There is no glory in killing and enslaving other civilians.

Horde is always about SURVIVAL, not fighting for glory or honor, but fighting to survive. Honor and glory is just the organization’s banner, not its reality or value.

Thrall’s horde survived through ration and diplomacy. Garrosh’s horde started being warmonger for conquest instead of survival.

Sylvanus fights only for the purpose of killing lives. All she wants is death and everyone dies with her.

She is anti-life, anti-survival, thus anti-horde. Just as she said, the horde is nothing to her.

there we go.
summoned up.

Every char in wow have well defined characteristics.

Examples - Guldan, Illadan, Arthas, Lich King, Garrosh, Grommash, Chen, Tyranda, Jaina, Malfurion …

They don’t break their char (in rp terms - they never out of char)

On the other hand Sylvanaas - she is mess in BFA for no reason. Also out of her char - I just blame writers on this.

you misunderstand.

True. Horde started as conqueror’s coming to azeroth. but orcs aren’t the only horde anymore. We have tauren, blood elves and trolls who lived in these lands before humans, and other races.

The concept of honor and glory is what stuck with the horde leaders. I’m not here to argue whether they are honorable or not.

I’m just saying, these characters are boring. crying honor before every move you take, etc. is boring. Which is what makes sylvanas more interesting than Saurfang or Thrall and most certainly baine.

Behind every villain lies the story of why he became like that. In my opinion, she is not completely negative. But people do not pay attention to details and quickly forget …
There are so many characters in wow who have done even greater evils but no one is as marketed as Sylvanas. And I share the opinion with Alexima that Blizzard is very slow telling a story. In my opinion, Alliance and Horde created all these characters who are hated in the game… Arthas, Nathanos…Sylvanas. Even what is most bizarre here… Artahas was a villain and most people liked him more than Sylvanas even he has done so many crimes… I wonder why lol
As for me, most evil char in-game is Maiev. But Blizzard somehow made her saint… Again I wonder why :joy:

You’re not the only one, she has weird grey skin and probably smell of rot, with so many hot living Elves in the game, why i would think a dead one is? The average Void Elf girl would make a much better goth gf.

I like how this post is buried, shows a lot about some alliance players.

Arthas taking up frostmourne betrayed his very character.

Lich king playing mustache twirling and " I have lured you into my lair where I am exposed and vulnerable " was so out of character.

Illidan…

Garrosh was a trainwreck of 180s, in one instance he was an honorable orc warchief, in the other an aggressive warmonger and in the other a genocidal maniac.

Jaina was always the nice compassionate character until she grew white hair.

If anything Sylvannas was as consistent as most of these characters until she was put in the spot light, which likewise messed all these characters save for gul’dan and Chen.

The problem with Sylvannas is simple, she was a very popular and loved character but when her arc finished ( LK dying and then her throwing herself from the top of ICC ) blizzard decided it would be a waste to sideline her and ever since then her character was a trainwreck.

At first it was her defiance against arthas that made her a brilliant character. She was the odd one that defied the system. She broke free, she made her own destiny with whatever choices she had left.

And then bfa came and her character triggered so many people I like her even more.
