System requirements

So since the power of my gaming pc blew up this morning, i thought to play classic while waiting for a spare… My laptop cant handle retail but it runs with great difficulty so i thouight, thaty surely classic would work for the game is technically old as heck and the real quality of graphics is not of today.

My flawless logic derived from thing that back at WOTLK times, i was able to play the game with laptop which was great back then but compared to old todays laptop i had, its a total different machine. ten times more streth and even while the memory, cpu and all other are good but the video card is just a Intel HD graphics which is not by far any gaming thing, i was thinking it might work with lowest settings on everything.

Sad fact seems to be that both classic and retail seem to need the same machine to run, even while the real quality of the graphics is totally different and even with resolution toned back to half of what the machine support (720p). Even on ugly looking 640x480 it still works just the same as if anything has no meaning on that side.

So i conclude, it must be a built in flaw in the game requiring certain type of graphics card for a game that does not actually need that kind of card even if the game is now programmed to run with the features only not getting improvments they do, only the downside of making some cards not supported.

So in any case, i was wondering what would be bare minimum to run classic well with lowest quality? I ask because i dont want to buy a spare machine that costs too much taking in account that mainly this thing is used for Netflix, Spotify and some web admin work. I just want a machine the game supports and costs as litle as possible but has the needed resolution i require, which i admit all can do these dayts

I can’t help you with the minimum requirements, but I dont think it will be much lower than retail, since they use the same engine.

Ofcause turning down graphics details, shaders etc will help alot, but I guess the best is to just try and see how it works out.

Minimum requirements is a fun thing; when is the game running “acceptable”. At 20fps? 30fps? 60fps? Is 1024x768 acceptable? (probably not but there’s no easy answer).

is what you’re looking for. My ancient PC runs WoW Classic OK while SL takes forever (5 minutes or something) loading, and gameplay in Retail is laggy.
FPS for me is 20-30 with an occasional spike into the 40es and downs into 10 and seldomly single digits.

Well i have allready toned it all down naturally, but the acceptavle really is a funny thing like purging of a city in Arthas mind

In any case, i guess i could play well enough on 1280x720 @20 fps even for just having some fun buyt i guess at least 30 would bee preferred for a spare. MY good computer can run everything over 100 so its not an issue normally and i dont require same from spare.

Would be nice though, if i could just install the game from old CD i still have in all my collections with the older version of engine which would be running it better that it did at back at the time, but i guess its good that at least for security reasons, we have the modern version with all the authenticator stuff and all that.

Hmm… Did the authenticator exist back then? I remember getting in very early the first time. Still have the physical keyring authenticator saved somewhere too.

Thanks! I have SL running fine minus the minor inconvenience not having power in the computer right now naturally, but i do hear many having issues on current build with better machines but also lower end machines. Only stutter i have is in Suramar but i guess its a feature since it was the same when Legion was the current expansion and i had a litle less powerful machine back then.

I think it came in WotLK, at least the design is WotLK inspirated. Still got one lying around somewhere.

Yeah. I might have gotten it in late WOTLK. Should find it and see how it lkooks. Maybe they had a bit different coloring with each expansion.
