Question for the all my fellow tank players who got the shocking nerf news , what can blizzard do so people play this role again and make it popular ? i usually play tank mainly , then swapped to healer , i was literally sitting in in queue for more than 20 min in grim , and i was thinking if its just the dungeon being painful for tanks , then i swapped to dawnbreaker , same stuff happening , swapped to siege and while im typing this , im 25min in in queue for siege , not even a low geared tank popped in the 11 i joined , most of my group is 2.7k so at least we have a higher chance that sweats will join up right ? well no , im afk here wondering if this is what blizzard wanted.
What shocking nerf news?
It probably is what Blizzard wanted.
For most people playing past the point of getting anything is like working at the weekend for zero pay. Some people do do it but come on.
I have my character completed, I see no reason why I should play above weekly +10s because I don’t get any reward that is worth it. Besides this I played 99% of this season with my friends from guild only, so no reason to pug.
And I will be returning to my rogue after deep thought and remebering old photos etc. so no further tanking from me I am afraid.
Blizzard can’t do anything to make me step into mythic dungeons.
Players can.
For me it’s less about the nerfs and more about too tight timers. I prefer a slower & polite play style; waiting for all ppl to dismount after the dragon flying in GB or DB, going one trash group after another, giving the healer some time to reg.
Tried to do that a few times this season; dps start pulling, complain about me being slow - partially rightfully so, because the timer forces you to do risky double pulls etc.
And yes, it’s worse this season, because I tanked during late SL and DF and had no trouble - or the risky pulls were less risky because I couldn’t die (so guess part of the problem are the nerfs; don’t wanna pull risky if it quickly ends up with me dying and a wipe as a result). So I just switched to my dps classes.
I doubt they can do much to make the tank role popular enough for the DPS to become one. It’s been a struggle since forever. But the DPS can do a lot to make the tank role more likable…
To be honest, it’s just unnecessary stress after the survivability nerf. I hopped on my frost DK last night and it was bliss, I might just switch away next season
I do not think there is much that can help on that. Even games where tanks are even easier to play, like final fantasy 14’s tanks, the role is unpopular and in high demand.
The only way I can see it change, in terms of pug tanks atleast, is if Blizzard starts enforcing their rules to the same level FF14 does. That does require Blizzard to move away from the automated silencing system though.
I duo pug with a guildie of mine when we are doing keys, and it takes a while and a couple of declines until we get into a group (Brewmaster/Enhancement shaman combo). I only do so as there is little interest in my guild to do dungeons this season,as if there is I just do not pug at all.
the amount of tank busters are just too high. you can brick the key as tank on every pack almost if you dont play well.
that combined with healers not really knowing how much healing you require on tank makes for some awkward situations for both tank and the healer.
Blizzard simply need to remember m+ is meant to be fun, it’s not an exam reserved for the MDI grade of player.
Go back to how they were late legion.
i dont have time getting declined because i am non-meta vengence DH tank
i did my +10s even couple +11
pushing high keys was never my plan in the first place
im in poe2 waiting room kind of
The solution to tank shortage is quite simple.
All the DPS who act like tanks, pulling trash and bosses should roll a tank.
The problem starts with the fact it’s near impossible to learn to tank while leveling due to the complete poopshow of no tactics just pulling everything, I urge all of you to start a new tank, choose one you are not familiar with, if familiar with them all pick the slowest and see how long it takes running pugs to end up as a DPS learning nothing about your abilities because a hunter or a shaman is just blasting everything screwing up your pulls.
It’s not a fun or rewarding experience so most folk abandon trying to learn
Imo the tank changes where fine, although not really needed. Most tanks are somewhat self sufficient, but you arent the one man army you were in dragonflight.
What made tanking a lot less fun for me is every single pack having at least one big tank buster, often multiple. It feels like you are constantly one mistake away from wiping the group, and that really isnt fun to me. Tanking used to be the role I played for a chill gaming experience, that really isnt possible anymore unless you outgear the content.
I just really hate the aggro gameplay. Instead of looking at your survivability you are all the time running behind mobs and try to get aggro on them. I tried it in s2 and s3 in DF and it is really not fun. I tried some follower dungeons in TWW and i can’t even get aggro in there, so i just gave up.
When it is about M+ routing is also a big burden to start with it. But i never got there in the first place.
we are in the 11th week of the season, i geard 4 tanks already and i try to play as much with my guild as possible.
Plus there is no reason to play more than 8 +10 a week per character.
yep as tank you must know the route for 100%, but I must say besides dawnbreaker/necrotic wake in this season you really just press w.
Tanks not being self sufficient anymore
The history of the game itself has shown that players will again pick up this role only and only if it becomes a dps with extra defenses.
but thats the role atm, you need heal like a dd. You just take the melees extra
