TBC Classic - Hybrid class PvP Itemization

Hi folks,
so… I think most of us agree TBC Classic is coming in some way; my guess is summer 2021.

It is still too early, but I like to think about stuff forward. You guys who remember better, what was PvP itemization like? Especially hybrid classes? Ratio between resilience and hit/cirt/str stats? /Point of this topic is funnily enough in the bottom

I mean, I played horde warrior whole TBC and rerolled alliance retri paladin by the end of TBC with Pre-WoTLK talents, so I remember just being extremely overpowered, but that is not what TBC retri paladin PvP experience was like.

I’m thinking of playing either enhancement shaman (that is my alt now) or retribution paladin Blood Elf when TBC Classic is out cos I don’t feel like stepping into warlock’s godlike TBC mode bandwagon.

I’m sure both specs enha/retri worked somehow in PvE, but it went worse in PvP.

Around season 3, I played arenas as arms warr with my brother’s retri paladin and resto druid. We did over 2100 rating and my brother got these sick S3 shoulders for retri. I didn’t know how big achievement was it back then, unless people started bashing us/insulting us for win-trading which lead my brother just quit playing, losing interest. It was really hard to play, but was so much fun at the same time.

Why was that? There was barely ANY RESILIENCE on retri paladin’s gear. I know paladin hit hard, but took even more damage. It was really stupid to balance his PvP gear like that and I think it was sacrifice for some more spell power, which wasn’t that needed tbh, maybe for off-healing. I also remember we barely met any retribution paladin in arenas AT ALL. Not to mention higher ratings.

I tried looking on Google for more info, like truly 2007+ dated itemization. I just found some blogs saying Retri Paladin had inferior itemization like that first 2 seasons. Do you guys remember how it went then? Did they rebalance old gear with latest patch, too?

And how was enha shaman? Did he have resilience on gear?

Again, I can’t really remember and I can only barely find any info. All gear I found online on some wiki, wowhead is not dated to 2007+ and it is already rebalanced.

So… I know it might not be much approriate for most of you to bother you with TBC thoughts but I couldn’t ressist. And I don’t know where to ask elsewhere, I don’t have reddit.

I’d love to hear what you know or remember! Thanks!

every class had resilience on their gear, except ret up until season 3,
only the vengeful gladiator set contained Resilience for the ret gear, i know cause i sweat blood reaching 2k for the shoulders as ret with no resilience.

I think later they changed so even the previous season gear had resilience on them

Depends on what patch tbc will launch.

But that decision, even up to this day i dont know who made it and why, only 1 spec in the entire game without the most important stat for pvp on their pvp gear missing,

Retribution Paladin gear had NO resilence (for a couple of seasons) because they needed basically every stat in the game in order to do things and that sucked out item budget for resilence.

That just to see how good TBC PvP was.

yeah that was the excuse…

however as i mentioned they did add resilience to s1, and s2 gear so that whole argument that we needed more stat was invalid

It kinda was, we just got screwed in another way.

The change occurred because they wanted Rets to be focusing more on strenght and AP, unfortunatly that could be done only when WotLK hit, making Rets able to have some SP from Stre.

Hey guys,
thanks for your comments. So I kinda remember it.

I hope they launch TBC same way as Classic, so classes would be more in balance and ret’s PvP gear would be more useful.

Other than that, WoTLK retri paladin was best of all times for me. It kept me playing alliance for a long time since then (human <3).

EDIT: Perhaps we should focus on some TBC suggestions when they announce it officialy, that PvP itemization was broken. Doubt it will do a thing, but you never know.

Ohh yes I remember now, crusader strike had a spell damage coefficiency, that got removed and that’s when they changed the gear

About your edit. This is a rather good time to give feedback about the core of the release since things are not set in stone and Blizz can see what players are worried about.

Yeah that makes sense. I’m sure they should leave talents the way it was, otherwise it might hurt PvP balance but at least fix of items would help. Spell power nerf, better survival.
