TBC tweaks for possible anniversary release?
Hey guys,
With the recent MoP launch on anniversary servers and all the class changes they did (which were mostly great), I started thinking, what if they did something similar for TBC if it comes later this year?
A few ideas I had:
-
BOJ from Vanilla raids
After TBC launches, Azeroth always feels kinda dead. Would be cool if bosses in old raids dropped Badges of Justice. That way people might still run MC, BWL, AQ40 etc., and keep the old world alive.
-
World PvP bounties
Some kind of system to make world PvP more exciting. Like, if you kill someone, you can’t use your flying mount for a few mins. And maybe if you get multiple kills, you show up on the map so other players can hunt you down for rewards.
Just want to open the topic and see what others think. Would love to hear more ideas on how to improve the TBC experience without changing the core too much. Anyone else got thoughts?
Guilds still do MC & Naxx in tbc. Adding badges to the others will just force people to run them the first few weeks then people will stop doing them when only casuals need badges.
You will never fix the issue with expansions that add new continents kill the old world, it has always happened, it’s one of the reasons classic is unique.
Most people don’t even enjoy world pvp, especially not the small scale stuff that generally involves griefing someone questing or farming. People like classic’s world pvp for the large scale stuff like guild vs guild or fighting for world bosses. You also have an inherent issue with rogues/druids in such a system you propose, you would either have to remove a core ability of theirs or let them completely dominate such a system.

I gotta disagree on a few things.
I actually played on a TBC private server where BOJ dropped from Vanilla raid bosses, and it worked really well. People were constantly running 40-mans for badges — not just “casuals,” but geared players too who needed BOJs for offset pieces, gems, enchants, etc. BOJs are such a core part of TBC that more ways to get them just add options…
As for world PvP — it’s definitely not for everyone, but let’s not pretend people don’t enjoy it. There’s a reason PvP servers exist and people roll on them. Some of the most fun moments come from open world chaos, especially if there’s a system that rewards or tracks it.
Of course, balance would need to be considered (rogues/druids especially), but saying “it can’t work” without trying doesn’t help much.
So you haven’t played actual tbc back in 2021? Or did you play classic for that matter?
Layering has completely destroyed world pvp. World pvp is also practically gone outside world bosses in TBC, or maybe the occasional 70 swatting some leveling fly. The sole reason pvp servers exist and people are attracted to them date back to 2004/private servers where layering did not exist. People don’t even play the pvp bgs anymore but play AV instead.
