I think you’ll find this one entertaining. Note that this was my first Retail Wow guild experience, as before that i was mostly playing solo or with close friends.
It happened at the end of MoP to the Start of Wod, after i took a very long break of the game, being disgusted by Cataclysm and not thrilled by Pandaria. The rebellion theme around Siege of Orgrimmar and the WoD Cinematic announcement made me want to play again. But as i found in other MMO’s i played during my break, i knew i needed to find a guild to enjoy it more. And while being at it I wanted to find an RP guild or a Progressive guild so i could play the raid content i missed from being away for 2 expac.
And well, i found a very rare gem, an RP progressive guild that just finished the TBC content and were searching for new players to join them on their fresh start of WOTLK. Even better, they accepted me in the guild even before i had an account (Cause i was playing on American servers), not being bothered with me having to level up an entirely new character as they were still preparing theirs.
To be fair, the ambiance was very nice in this guild. There was a ton of new players like me that joined for that Progressive-RP concept and we leveled together as a solid group. It was fun and pretty chill. I had choosed to play Warrior, a class i had never played before and learned to tank with this group we had during levelling, aiming at being DPS once we would get into the raids.
Then came the first few weeks of raiding and entering Naxxramass, we were doing fine. But after the second raid, the Guild Leader (And main tank) talked about doing a summer break. Everyone not taking a break were pleased by the fact an officer would continue to organise Raids and RP Event during the break, just with less people. So he asked me to tank, as i could and was already stuff to do so from dungeons.
As a reduced group, with mostly RP/New players we progressed slowly compared to the full group, but we progressed. But the summer break of the Guild Leader became a Fall break, putting much more responsibilities over the shoulder of this officer. And being who i am, already helping him organizing stuff for the remaining player of the guild, he felt like i would be a good fit to be officer, so he did gave me the title, since the GM seemed to not care at this point.
And WoD pre-patch hit. And with it came the item squish. Suddenly level 80 raid content had a very big raise in difficulty. It was like going from LFR to HM in one night, cause we were missing crucial stats on gear. We found a solution to that problem in the gems that were not scaled down, but since early WOTLK gear did not gave any gem slot, we turned to TBC Sunwell stuff to be able to continue our progress. While most of the remaining members of the progressive project found it nice to now have a real challenge, some of the old members of the guild, who considered this as a nice easy side content, dropped the ball there. We continued progress, more motivated than ever.
And then, the GM returned for the launch of the expansion (Yes, in November, after near 6month break) and started to organize the guild around the new WoD Content. And suddenly, after him advertizing for a Progressive Guild for nearly 1 year prior, he decided to turn the Guild into a normal raid Guild. But while we attend to his event, me and the other officer continued to organize the progressive raids in the Off-Raid days. But unsatisfied by the progress on his raids, and seeing that a big part of the raid team playing their lvl 80 character instead of gearing up and optimizing their lvl 100 character, he felt the need to Shut down the project.
To do so, he accused me and the other officer to try to overtake his guild and he cast us out of the guild as we tried to defend the fact that a great part of his guild joined for that progressive RP content and that we were just providing what he did not. We both eared after that that he lied to the whole guild about the reason of our kick to cover up for his will to cut down the Progressive RP project cause himself did not wanted to continue it. The guild never finished Highmaul before disbanding because they lacked player after many other left.
Morality: As Guild Master, set a clear goal for your guild, and do not false advertise when you don’t even believe in your own goal.
