These days the 2 popular methods are boosting people through M+ or WoW tokens.
Some people still play the AH but it’s a dying profession, imo.

Personally I just play alts and do callings every 3 days. Knock them all out in one trip, easy 5-6k gold per character when I vendor it.

No it isn’t x)

Having lots of alts and doing mission tables and some callings on them. It’s not glamorous or fast, but it works  And isn’t dependent on anyone else buying what you’re selling.

Having alts with all professions so you don’t need to buy consumables also saves money.

So you’re telling me being able to buy 240,000 gold for £17 has not impacted traditional, time consuming methods?

I stand in Stormwind, just behind the AH and ask if anyone can spare a few copper and eventually it builds up :man_shrugging:

Wrong, i’ve made over 3k+ alone just from AH stuff the past several days.

Just doing quick callings with alts gives a ton these days. Thats my main source of income really as I’ve stopped doing goldruns in old content (which is also still reasonably viable). Selling pets sometimes works too!

Actually that’s very simple just join boosting guild and work as booster ;

Step 1: Don’t use gold to pay for sub.
Step 2: Don’t spend your gold.
Step 3: Sell raw mats (on some servers 100k a day from herbing is ez time).
Step 4: When you have enough gold you can flip mats on AH instead of farming them.

PS. Step 5: Transfer yourself to a mid pop server so AH prices are not like dirt XD

Research, time investment and finding your market.

I got my 5M long boi in the first two months of 8.3, going from basically no gold but with a few alts and 7 maxed BFA professions.

I found at that a few things worked particularly well on my realm, such as catch-up gear, enchants, enchant mats, old world metals, old world transmutations and Island Expedition Tmogs.

This along with occasional old world mats from alts and tmog runs led me to earn close to 9M gold over the course of 8.3.

It’s usually not a “easy money scheme 106% working”, just a lot of time invested and understanding what will and won’t work on your realm.

For instance the usual tip is herb + alch, but I found that it was very hard to enter that market even with all the possible perks cuz there’s barely any margin on that market. Unless you’re an AH goblin with agreements with farmers which will sell stuff to you cheaper.

That said I found an unexpected (now dead) profitable use to Alch : Speed & invis pots, which back then worked at max level. T’was good as long as it lasted

Edit :

Reduced the motivation of casual players with money to waste and not a lot of time ? Definitely.

But I’d say in regards to gold making it actually gave more value to gold making as an activity.

Shop mounts are basically vendor mounts thanks to that. I haven’t paid a sub or blizzard game since 2018 for doing something I enjoy. So no, imo the introduction of the wow token didn’t harm the economy, it just added to the value of gold farming.

A casual can now expect more than 75k gold per month playing a single character & doing world content. They don’t need the token to get what they need.

Callings on 4 characters could earn you a token last time I checked. We have never been showered in gold from world content to that extent before afaik

For anyone with over 500k gold no I don’t think it has. My guild mates make 1-1.5m at the start of each tier and they start each tier off with less than 700k. It’s all about making investments at the right time and doesn’t take a genius to figure out which items and when.

Well, I should clarify.
By working the AH I don’t mean selling off BOEs and stuff at peak times at the start of a patch. I was more so referring to people that sit at the AH for hours every day micro managing profession materials and such, bulk buying and hiking the prices, etc.

People used to do that full time. It was a game within itself to play the AH like that back in MoP.

I haven’t seen people play the game like that since (maybe earlier) Legion.

(1) Be good at the game and sell Boosts (the best way, but also the hardest)
(2) Get lucky with a BoE drops early into the expansion
(3) Buy and sell tokens (easy if you have a good job IRL)
(4) Play the AH (very hard and time consuming)

Boosting people in torghast/leveling/raid/M+… if you’re good at it you can reach gold cap in days.

AH players wipe their butt with 240k. Magicuz (whos an AH player) was sitting at 5billion at the end of BFA

Who do you think has the means to reset a market ?

Everytime an item spike in price there’s one such player who spent hundred of thousands trying to profit from the reset. Which usually works tbh.

There’s an entire sub Reddit dedicated to the economy, which has been active for years now.
