To be fair, it wasn’t Malfurion who was crying like a baby, it was Xavius who was tricking Tyrande and the player.
The bad part is Tyrande was, actually, acting like that.

Actually NB joining the horde made perfect sense once we see the whole plot in Suramar and the history between the 3 races(Nightbourne,Night Elf,Blood Elfs) it just deppends what your angle is.
Tyranda just displayed what is plaguing the Night elf society, millenia of isolation and paranoia scared them severely and the whole Suramar scenario displays it.So ether its by pure accident or a stroke of genius from the writing team.
On the contrary you have races like Tauren or Zandalari, native to Azeroth and have alot history with other races yet they are not xenophobic or allowed them self to be consumed by paranoia as alot of Night elf leadership is displaying(exception being Jared Shadowsong)
The only reason for Nightborne to join horde is to give horde night elf appearance. Same for Void elf to join alliance, it is to give alliance BE appearance, because players love elves.
Any lore/story development is for this purpose, no matter how aweful they are.
Horde didnt start the war. Alliance did. Before BFA SI:7 spies were killing goblins in silithis.
Especially because the other faction truly is not the big bad, never was…the faction conflict was always background…BfA sadly forced it into the spotlight after a sad number misunderstandings and warcrimes (Teldrassil being the largest)
Have you consider fact that in mmorpg. where collides gameplay and story, its super hard to create good story without allienating gameplay. Also Blizzard have resource badget and they have to decide where the will spend their dev time. If Thalyssra didnt protest againts Sylvanas action it was propably becouse Blizzard had no dev time to create these moments becouse their focus was elswhere. This isnt book. This is game and content you can create is limited far more.
Well a few minutes of cutscenes are not something Blizz could not easily whip up. That is not a very good excuse.
You have to look at it from both sides. We know Tyrande is a very impulsive person, who tends to lash out, which is fine, its a very understandable trait for a person raised in a fairly xenophobic society, who has suddenly after ten thousand years become mortal again.
Then you have to look at Thalyssra’s perspective. She opposed Elisande from the very beginning. Elisande’s supporters tried to -kill- her over it.
Where was Tyrande? Nowhere. Thats not Tyrande’s fault, I mean the Sundering shattered the world, Tyrande probably didn’t even know that Suramar still -existed-, in fact it is almost certain she did not, or they would have made efforts earlier to reach out to them. The problem stems from what happened when they -did-.
You have three elven armies on your doorstep, who aid you. One of them just disappears up their own fundament and doesn’t give two hoots about your people once they killed the evil ruler. (Quel’dorei) One of them insults you to your face, and tries to make a parallel between the ruler you have been resisting for all that time, and starts trying to give you moral homilies when they were absolutely indifferent to your plight until they turned up on your doorstep (Kaldorei) the third understand your plight, and have suffered similar, and are -nice- to you, and invite you over to see how they managed to handle their similar problem (Sin’dorei)
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out which one you are going to be best disposed towards does it?
I mean to use a real world parallel Tyrande’s actions are like if after D-Day, General De Gaulle had turned up in France, and went up to French Resistance fighters and started telling them they were rubbish, and making threats, whilst they had been comfortably living in Britain, and not facing the daily risk of being captured and killed. Worse, then saying “How do I know you will not turn out like Vichy?”
I mean who in their right minds acts that way, and moreover who in their right minds would -not- be insulted by such behaviour?
Thalyssra, like the Nightborne in general, are of the Highborne caste, The Highborne are mostly now Blood Elves, who also suffer a mana problem, the difference being that it is Mana withdrawal that turns Nightborne into Withered, but Mana Overindulgence that turns Sin’dorei into Wretched, they have a common ancestry, common problems, and the Sin’dorei are actually being -pleasant- to them, instead of just ignoring them, or flat out insulting them.
I really don’t understand people who think that Thalyssra listening to Liadrin and not Tyrande makes no sense. I mean these things happen in our real world, so why are they suddenly ‘nonsense’ in a fantasy world?
Suppose we better retcon the history of our world as well? I mean Wars have been fought over less?
The Shal’dorei are keenly linked to the Sin’dorei, know the important thing here?
People are really keen to play this “Hurr but they joined a Faction that started to commit Genocide”
Yeah, they did. Know the other cool facts about that?
There were no Shal’dorei visible at the invasion of the Night Elf lands. There wasn’t even a sizeable Sin’dorei presence. There was Lorash Sunbeam, who really was a carcrash of a character (as the author of ‘A Good War’ acknowledged, they completely got the lore wrong). We later see a Blood Elf as part of the supply wagon train.
Later. As in, not during the invasion, but once the destruction was a fact that had happened and could not be undone.
We have no indication whatsoever that Thalyssra, or for that matter Lor’themar, agreed with what Sylvanas did. They simply weren’t involved in that decision at all (I mean no one was, the plan was to invade and occupy, not destroy, even Tyrande knows this if you play Alliance quests)
So this “hurr hurr, They signed up for a genocidal war” is just childish posturing.
They didn’t. Nobody, not even Saurfang or Nathanos -knew- that it was going to go so bad until Sylvanas did a Sylvanas, (Seriously, Her and Jaina need to die already, and Blizzard needs more writers who can go 'This character is female, and as a neat twist, they’re -not- insane!)
So no, You are wrong. Thalyssra did not sign up for the destruction of Teldrassil, because -NO ONE- knew that was going to happen. Even Sylvanas didn’t know! She made the decision on a stupid whim because she was annoyed at a Night Elf that triggered her PTSD.
Sometimes the world pivots on such small moments. In fact often it does.
Thalyssra is cementing her people’s position within the Horde, and whether her romancing of Lor’themar is political, or genuinely romantic (and there is no reason to think it is not) her thought processes are -entirely- understandable.
She is Void Elf Prime.
If she hasn’t given up her High Elf status by literally becoming something new - then the Belves certainly haven’t with a simple name change.
*Just thought. She’s the new Illidan. The devs should have just slapped a pair of horns on her, called it a good day and gone for an early lunch.
This is interesting. I think just killing them outright would be a disservice to the characters, but I think they both need to have their narrative played out. If we are supposed to think Sylvanas is too far gone perhaps that may be unlikely for her, but with Jaina her past actions need to be addressed.
Whether either of them are contrite or not isn’t the issue - they can be murderous or crazy or broken or none of them - but Jaina needs some in-game movement as a character at least.
She is fundamentally a different being, having been groomed into her current state by Locus Walker who subjected her to an experimental procedure of absorbing a void-state naaru. An act that even he seems surprised about the results of.
She is unique in her state of existence, coincidentally suffering the same malign whispers as the void elves do and having a void form but quite unlike her, they were universally subject to a wholly different transformation via the box that dar’khan’s treasure map led them to.
She is the one that helped them but she isn’t one of them. They just happen to share a certain malady of intrusive whispers that she is trained to manage. Even if she turns blue tomorrow and has a full head of tentacle dreadlocks she didn’t become what she is in a way that reflects the void elf race.
They’re unique in their circumstance through a process that hasn’t been demonstrated to be repeatable. Alleria is unique in that she’s a naaru eater. I guess she’s free to teach others and hunt naaru down for a snack to make more allerian elves but they wouldn’t be Umbric’s ren’dorei.
As for Thalyssra, she obviously chose poorly as she was told half truths and Suramar was pulled into the Horde’s embrace by way of Liadrin’s realpolitik. Having to reconcile with this fact and facing the consequences of collaboration with Sylvanas’ regime is a good story. I’d want the shal’dorei to question where they’ve put temselves, the role of the kaldorei and draenei in the lives of the blood elves and the extent to which Suramar has been played and used.
I’m not saying they should rebel and join the alliance but some basic perspective would have a few of them upset at trading one tyranny for another, having their stated goal of being Azeroth’s protectors tread upon, being lied to outright and dragged into a costly conflict. It makes for an interesting story. Many would believe they’d be better off independent at this point, telling both horde and alliance off, believing Thalyssra failed them as a leader and dealing with this dissent would be a good story for Thalyssra and the blood elves who brought her into the fold.
If the Horde and Alliance actually had real, functional ideologies to differentiate them instead of “Horde Evil Murder Darkness, Alliance Good Selfless Light”, this would be the way all the races should be.
The super problematic Eternal Race War angle that we currently have is… not good.
It kind of boils down to wanting to be free of the territorial ambitions of one another, valuing their libertas above all and fearing their loss of agency under the boot of the other faction. Slavery hypocrisy aside. Besides, you know, getting exterminated as would be the case for some races unto others like the Forsaken ambition to topple humanity.
The one consistency is a self interested pursuit of freedom at the expense of everyone else. And paradoxically upholding and asserting the dominance of absolute rulers.
My tyrant is better than your tyrant. Now we wrassle for our freedoms.
Alliance and Horde dit Nothing in legion,it was all the class halls
Players represnted their classhall/dalaran in Leigon not their faction
Umm, did you do Suramar? At all?
We are not talking about class halls heroes, we are talking about Tyrande (and her Kal’dorei) Vereesa Windrunner (And he quel’dorei) who are still pretty much part of alliance.
This game is awash with poorly written characters. Part of the reason is directly bad writing, the other is that the writers have to write it a certain way to fit what the game director wants to happen.
