Thank you for Thiernax, blizzard

Don’t apologise… the haters are telling everyone a great deal more about themselves, rather than making any valid point about your post… mainly, that homophobia is still very much a thing.

Which is precisely why representation/inclusivity is important…not surprisingly, the haters are not raging about all the blatant heterosexuality in the game, being ‘shoved down their throats’…as they wander around in game, role playing scantily clad women.

The “forced down your throat” rhetoric is wrong for either side of this argument. It is ‘an eye for an eye’ logic: I suffered your heterosexuality, now you suffer my homosexuality. That is not what this is about.

Including LGBT characters is about representation. Blizzard did not intend to create a fantasy world in which LGBT characters are absent. The inclusion of these storylines is to make explicit what has been implied all along. If you are playing World of Warcraft to escape the reality of the existence of LGBT people, you are and have always been playing the wrong game.

Representation is important because it fosters acceptance. Seeing LGBT characters represented in media is a validation of the existence of LGBT people, and it is nice to be seen, as I believe the OP tried to express. And any time a doctor, athlete or Night Elf NPC that happens to be LGBT is included in a book, tv series or game, it is a reminder to everyone that it is possible to be those things and LGBT – and that there is more than the sassy gay best friend.

‘But I don’t need to be reminded! I’m already fine with all types of gay people.’ That’s great! Then the reminder is not for you. But it is not consistent to argue that you have no issue with LGBT people, and at the same time prefer not to be reminded of their existence in the game of your choice. Pick a side.

I understand Johnfred not being happy with some of the responses that he’s received but if you put your thoughts out there on a forum then you’re laying yourself wide open for replies that might not agree with your own view point.

It doesnt matter to me if someone is gay/bi/straight/trans or any other sexuality but I do believe that people have the right to express their views even if they arent in accordance with the OP, just as long as they’re not abusive and without name calling but thats a two way street.

I’m a female player and none of my Orcs, Goblins and Gnomes are scantily clad - but I dont have a problem with players who mog their characters in that way, thats their choice too. I dont have a problem with homosexuality being in the game as long as its portrayed with thought, meaning and honest to goodness emotion - not just shoved in there.

Yeah my point wasnt about not being reminded about their existence as that’s just completely moronic. My point was its stupid to do a tit for tat when inreality it will make no difference to either side.

If the story makes sense to have gay/lesbian/straight couples fair enough but I consider it more humouring people if they just randomly force a relationship that was never there just to satisfy people’s need to feel like they are being represented in a video game.

As you’ve understood I have absolutely no issue with any form of relationship being in the game aslong as it actually makes sense and isn’t just conjured out of thin air.

My examples would be like Anduin randomly getting together with Jaina or Genn when it was never discussed or even thought about until a group of people decided they werent represented enough so Blizzard caved and just decided why not it’ll shut these people up and we can look like the good guys again.

However if Anduin had some sort of romantic history be it in the books or in general lore with either of those characters and it actually make sense in the progression of story telling for them to be together then id absolutely be fine with that because thats apart of story telling and romances do happen so it would be odd for characters to just stay alone because it’ll upset one side if they go with x or y character.

I dont believe for a second that anyone would consider my thoughts as anti gay/lesbian because its not and I feel that although I am straight I am entitled to make these points on the reasoning that I enjoy well written stories and not stories made up to appease random loud groups of people which when topics like these pop up you generally have two sides trying to shout their points to drown out the others.

I am being completely neutral in saying I hope Blizzard don’t force any relationship just to satisfy the players and actually stay true to the lore/story that is already been written.

It doesn’t…
Silvermoon is still stuck in the tbc era while the world around them has advanced… they havent reclaimed half of their own city but somehow have partaken in multiple wars

300 reasons why the sexual preference of a character is the most trivial thing there is in a game where devs (i’ve seen the tweets, the devs are laughable at best) can’t even upgrade a forum without breaking it… but no… people complain about something so minor that nobody would have noticed if done over night 3 months ago… its pathetic.

Im right there with you tbh. I honestly thought the Silvermoon situation was fantastic and couldnt wait for it to be explore more and yet were 13 years on and Silvermoon hasn’t changed a bit.

I wish/hope Blizzard would focus more on the important aspects of the story instead of whose shacking up with who.

Lets be fair, Blizzard have done far worse recently, their handling of the Madeleine Roux matter is a source of Shame to any company in the 21st century…

A Business in the 21st Century, endorsing and championing sexism and racism. An American company of all places, have they learned -nothing-! in their short existence as a nation state?

You’d have thought Americans of all people would have a better understanding as to how divisive these things are?

Apparently not.

They’re not good at these things. I guess the rest of the world just has to realise this. America is not where the progressive ideas come from anymore, it is a stagnated culture trapped in a bizarre amalgamation of Californian ideas and Alabama prejudice, and we just kind of need to help them understand the world, before it descends even further into a third world mentality with a first world military industrial complex, Aside from the starvation aspect, there really isn’t much in it between America and North Korea these days, except that Kim Jong un actually sounds more sane. (There is a sentence I never thought I would type) At least he only demands men have the same haircuts as him, not that they inject themselves with toxic materials to cure a disease.

They should focus on the aspects of the game that need attention, but we all know they won’t, So we get these weird half measures “Yeah, but guys, forget about Azeroth, look at the new stuff! Whoo!”
“Yeah, but we -like- Azeroth, I mean that is the point of the game?”
“But look at the new stuff! Whooo!”
“Yeah but Azeroth?”
“New stuff, Whoo!”
“you’re not listening are you?”
“New stuff, Whooo!”

I hate to be that guy who quotes films, but I’m gonna be.
“They spent so much time thinking about whether they -could- do something, that they never stopped to think about whether they -Should-.”

“New Stuff, Whooo!”
“Can you look at the old stuff that needs addressing?”
“No. New Stuff, Whoooo!”
“Grow up”.

Chucking in a few non straight characters is a non issue, the only people making it an issue are Homophobes.

Prove me wrong whilst citing every relationship in game. Come at me. I actually know the figures, because some poor sucker counted them all, I know how many Named NPC’s there are in game, and how many are LGBT+

Come at me.

Why was this flagged as inappropriate?

Hey, I don’t want to upset you lads even more but I just like to point out that you’re having a dispute over a gay character in World of Warcraft at 4 AM monday morning

Its the forums what else do you expect?

You that are tons of gay and lesbian that votes for the right?

So our countries are not the issue.

You did well to express happiness about the game having included something you like in a decent way.

It is just that various gamers have different degrees of grudges etc from several incidents sparked in the last 10 years by people who have been really awful while claiming to stand about various minorities. This can cause some people to lash out reflexively at others over certain subjects, even when it is not deserved.

It is also that this is the internet so more people feel they can more easily reveal a much darker side of themselves to others :frowning:

Just keep on trying to be happy about who you are and if you can also find a partner of your own preference that makes you happy.

So does the Night Elf male that casually mentions his husband pass your “making sense” test? Or is that “conjured out of thin air”? Are you upset with the romance between Flynn and Shaw, or are you worried about some potential future romance involving key lore characters like Anduin and Jaina?

Thats pretty much whats been going on for the last 2 months

That’s not fair. We’ve had a solid swing into elven skin colour disputes as well.

Don’t forget the ‘white NPC is now black, immersion broken’ drama.

Oh we had a lot of swings into many different topics in the other threads as well

Am I the only one who doesn’t know who this Thiernax is?

One of the gay alien couple

Never heard of him so I’m guessing he’s in SL?
