The amount of item levels in this patch is too high

We got more item levels in this patch than we got in other expansions for an entire expansion. This is really unhealthy! Why are you doing this blizzard to us?

i remember BFA in Dazar’alor raid HC was 400 and mythic was 415
now Hc is 213 and mythis is 226 from HC to mythic is 13ilvl in bfa it was 15 and when titanforge was on your side it was 425 so
Can you explain more about this? i don’t understand what is your point

In BFA we dinged 120 on 275 ilvl and Uldir mythic (first raid) was 375 ilvl (with forging to 385 max).

But what is unhealthy in your oppinion? ilvl is just a number.

I would say item level is not just a number, it’s a progression journey and each upgrade feels huge, huger than ever before.

I will use PVP as an example since that is most what I do. You start with honor gear at 158 and can upgrade it 7 times to 197 item level, then the conquest gear that starts at 200 and can be upgraded 5-6 times up to 226-233 item level. The power difference between someone with 158 and someone with 197 is huge, between 158 and 220+…is like the 2 characters are playing 2 different games.
In PVE I think its not as important since there players are not fighting each other and you don’t mind if someone overgeared is in your group, by the contrary you are happy to see him there.

People wanted gear to be more meaningful now it is.
you need to actually grind your gear to by able do something good with it
PVE or PVP doesn’t matter
I will use TBC as a example you started new character you were green little boy going into random BGs you were destroyed by people with merciless sets with high resilence gear.
Now it’s the same thing
you started your new char and blizzard wants from you to actually progress that character to 226 ilvl
So you will be sometimes killed by a dude who grind his gear during 3 months and now he can enjoy the game
Blizzard will never give you insta PVP gear it’s mmo
this type of game is based on grind and progresion
if you want just pure skill vs skill pvp go play moba

Its not even close to being the same thing. The first tier of PVP gear is really bad vs the last tier. Did you even read my comment? In burning crusade someone with gladiator gear would be still competitive vs someone with merciless, even vengeful.

My post is not about being: This game sucks, I don’t wanna play anymore!; It’s about raising a concern.

I dont know anything about burning crusade so i am not going to respond on that. But isn’t it the idea that the lowest gear is bad in comparison to the highest? otherwise there is no reason to upgrade. And it is a game where gear progression is a core thing, imo.

And ilvl-wise i don’t see a difference with BFA.

Well there’s bad, very bad, holy moly bad and what the hell is going on bad.
It should be a gear gap between entry level gear and end gear but not an astronomical gap.
And this is only patch 1. Imagine stepping into a bg as a new player 1 year from now.

right now PVP system is OK and gearing is OK
because it gives you basicaly free 197 ilvl gear with versa on it just for HONOR
now it’s your job to upgrade it to play with it and grind
you can play 2v2 3v3 or RBGs to test your skill and upgrade your gear to 207/213/226
it all comes down to how good you are
There are people doing low rated arenas naked showing people that you don’t need that much to win arena its about strategy and execution

So i don’t understand what are you saying
i like this system because it gives you gear based on your skill
And people in WOW actually like this

in 9.1 they add another renown lvl so honor lvl will be again higher for new people when they come into the game

I suppose in a year honor gear 1 will be in a year higher ilvl than it is now  Like also dungeons will give higher gear.

It’s actually less meaningful. Much less. A patch hits and your gear is worth jack something again, having to start over again from scratch. While in your TBC example gear actually remained somewhat viable into the next tier.

Besides, we have a gap of 70-80 ilvls in PvP, while even 10 is a difference between day and night in performance.

Keep it up and we have another ilvl squish in 10.0.

higher roof yes.
Still have to start at the floor.
And you need honor. Which you get from pvp. It’s not like you can go to the AH and buy honor.

Wut, Don’t think they’ve ever increased stats/ilvl of any gear ever. They add better gear and raise the roof of gear but you still always have start from the bottom.

When it is gear from a vendor, the ilvl will just go up per tier
And dungeon loot got up with 30 ilvl with every tier in bfa too.

the gear gap has been like this since a decade ago, if not more.

Let’s look at cata launch item levels

Questing / leveling gear: ilvl 300-ish, occasional blues with 333 (but just a few slots - eg. cata version of ring of blood gave 333 weapons). Lets say 315 ilvl on average upon reaching lv. 85

Cata normals - 333 ilvl
Cata heroics - 346 ilvl
Normal raid - 359 ilvl
Heroic raid - 372 ilvl

This is very similar to current gear progression. You’re about 150 after leveling and buying some very cheap crafted boes, then 158 in normals, 171 in heroics, 184 in M0, 200 in raid, 213 in hc, 226 in mythic.

We have only slightly more gear ramp in the first patch. This is direct consequence of more difficulty levels.

You just gave the perfect example of the issue. In cata you started from 333 ilvl from cata normals and you would get up to 372 heroic raid gear, 39 item level difference. In shadowlands is 68. When was that gap of ilvls in cata? in 4.1 of the next raid tier or more?

I find ivl discussion difficult since it is just a display number. The game does not change when the display number is the current number /2 or /3. It only looks on screen different.

Because you did not notice or experience the power difference.

I will use another example, in cata once you had your heroic dungeon gear, you would be good to go for normal raid. Can the same be said in this expansion? Can you raid Castle Nathria with 171 gear?

I would say if a 200 ilvl character feels undergeared, what can be said about a 158 ilvl character?

end-game content ? yes it is.
sure, ilvl is important but secondary stats can make higher ilvl useless.

In that case; I totally disagree with you.
I’ve not felt like that in SL at all. I’ve felt limited, upgrades are boring and way too rare; basically not worth the effort they require.

But Cata had less difficulty tiers back then.
It wasn’t until 4.3 that LFR was introduced. So having less ilvls overal in early cata is logical.
