Generalisation like this is the base for all the toxicity. “back in muh day we were funny and good”.
People will just say “Join a guild” but I am with you on the social aspect. Joining a guild is a viable solution but it ignores the core point of how the game has evolved with the community.
Not everyone is going to be able to dedicate their time to forming social circles and close knitted groups. I myself have been abused multiple times this expansion because I didn’t take the optimal route in a dungeon or made a slight mistake when taking.
it’s because of the game quite simply enough, everything is instant queue system for everything
don’t normally even need to talk because it’s just face on keyboard kinda stuff
only talking in BGS IS U N00BS etc
it’s been like this for ages, not gonna get better playing classic you could see the difference…
If Blizzard designed their open world to be more of a place where seeing another player is a positive experience, the player attitudes would change. Right now it is mostly just:
- that idiot tagged my mob
- that idiot looted my quest item
- that idiot is on a massive mount on top of the NPC / mailbox / quest item
- that idiot picked my herb and it despawned before I could get to it (and I don’t mean boxers or bots)
- that idiot dropped their mob train on me and now I’m dead
- that idiot tagged a rare and ran off, now the rare has larger health pool and takes longer for me to kill
- that idiot killed the quest mobs from a the pack I pulled, but couldn’t be bothered to help me kill the rest
- everyone who isn’t part of my group of friends or guild is a retard and can’t play the game (seen this in every guild I’ve been in)
Basically other players in open world are often seen as something that makes your gameplay more tedious because a) we don’t need each other there and b) we are in constant competition with each other over everything.
The reason why I’m not blaming LFD or LFR or crossrealm etc. is that I have played and still play other MMOs that have all of those things and the community is much better. What do those games have in common? Personal gathering node & quest item spawns, open world content that requires other players, factions are only for PvP purposes.
Haha. That reply was just a bulls eye
Players start talking in group chat only when something bad happens. On the whole its a run of silent killers who execute their job well or on the contrary not well.
As a tank I usually just write in chat “wait”, “we do markers”, “cc” and after succesful run “wp cya guys”
The pug motto is simple “Less words, more action”. And I personally don’t think its a bad thing. Silence is golden.
You can always join a guild if you want some social communication.
Not really…i think its opposite. Poeple these days are full of rainbows and careful to not offend someone.
Ofc there are toxic people but in general people are imo more friendly.
No all anti-social players .
Players can have social-anxiety, if shy/fear speak.
it has been like this always though . its nothing new.
only reason you notice it was that in past you never met those people once you were done with your hc dungeons.
I’m 36, so not a millennium child.
I have friends. If I make friends in game it’s an happy accident. I don’t go out of my way, like I don’t walk into a bar and chat to every one in it. One thing that I think is a problem is people going out of their way to be rude…
I’ve found that the way my character looks makes people respond in a good way. The amount of pats on the head from both Alliance and Horde is pretty funny and the whispers I’ve had have been positive and some are just down right sweet.
But I’m a shy person, dont let the forum persona fool you - I can type it because I’m protected by that screen i do reply to the whispers and I’ve become braver and start sending some ginger Snaps love and blowing kisses. Its a nice feeling.
The absolutely horrible players that are out there are there because of no consequences. A silence for a short period of time doesnt deter them. Having said that I cant think of a way to stop people being awful - my ignore list has a whole two people on it and I think they were boost sellers.
And some of the streamers they seem to idolise are vile.
Because people aren’t interested in getting to know randoms, either you have friends you play the game with or it plays like a semi-online game through pickup groups.
Why do you expect people to be kind to people they have no emotional investment in?
Thats very possible but I do think that some of the streamers are ‘in character’. I’ve sat and watched some of the bald guy and found him to be hilarious at times but often some of his actions are troubling, probably because its done to entertain a specific group of people maybe.
Manners? Not being rude is different to being kind.
No doubt. But it don’t help.
Is it rude to just want to get the job done?
If you are running M+0s or Normal raids or something that isn’t the place to discuss tactics or get hand led through the challenges, you just watch and learn, people don’t want to write essays back and forth on how you should move when the boss does a big frontal, they just want you to not do the same mistake twice.
Maybe People are responsible for their own actions and should be made to be accountable, cant place some of the blame on streamers.
Edit: Actually I’m taking back what I said here:
cant place some of the blame on streamers.
Perhaps you can, maybe leading by example - I dont know but maybe that certain streamer wouldnt have the amount of viewers he has
We’re not talking about those situations exclusively though.
Yeah, I agree. But younger people especially look at it and think that’s what pro gamers do.
My son was doing it on fortnite. A weeks Internet ban fixed that one…
