And no. From the bottom of my heart, I honestly do not believe that Ruby Sanctum had any effect on people staying in the game during the WoTLK content draught.
Only what you and I would see as improvementsaka a Cata we could live with, are two very different things. And I much doubt that anybody would like my version of Cata - I also doubt yours would do the trick.

There is 10 TBC servers going, where of 3 is low-pop… I would hardly call that TBC servers doing fine…
Why the beeb not? The devs said that: “as much as some players are not able to understnd this, some people actually does not feel at home on big servers, and they should be allowed a home as well” or words to that account. Are you now blaming the devs when they for once deliver what they promise?
We have in EU 20 servers (not counting the Russian ones).

Only PvP servers are represented in all pop-tiers, PvE has no low-pop, and RP has only (one) low-pop.
If anything we need a low-pop PvE server for those wanting this and not RP

This certainly is not a majority of players (and I expect many people reading this to scoff at this notion :P) , but these players definitely exist and having a few, let’s say, “small town” options of realms to play on isn’t something we feel is a bad thing, especially going into an expansion launch where we expect to see a large spike of new and returning players of all stripes.
And a few of them have upwards of 10x the population of original TBC servers.
They’re also more popular than any WoTLK pirate server.

It’s really not.
Gameplay wise; we can blame Cataclysm for removing RP elements, and we can blame WoD for pruning specs. But system wise? RDF is responsible for LFR as well as the automated gameplay of WoD’s garrison system.
I didn’t know there was such thing as an rp elemental, never seen one in game.
Yeah I wrote that whilst drunk, editted slightly.
I meant “RP Elements”, as Cataclysm removed things like the hunter deadzone and ammo.
Requiring reagents and ammo was surely a pain to keep track of but still added something to the game.
Just like relics, totems, quivers. It was something extra, making classes more unique.
Having no ammo is convenient for sure, but we still lost something along with it

Well typically if somebody is in melee range of an archer, they wouldn’t try to pull the string of their bow, would they? Even the elves in LotR swap to a melee weapon or try to disengage if the orcs were too close
Even in your example there’s simple no zone around Legolas where he can’t attack so I still don’t get it O_o
You could be on your main and try to get it for the 10th time, while some other person has gotten it on first with both their main and then their alt. Reserving items is not too dissimilar from classic RPG mechanics such as manipulating the odds of a certain result on a dice roll. DKP does this as well. When a dps goes tank to reserve something, that person is lowering the available DPS in the LFG pool, making everything easier for everyone else looking to pug.
You don’t make a choice of who ends up in your group with RDF. Zero control about group composition past waiting for 15 minutes to vote kick someone.

There’s too many toxic players in BGs as well - to show my point.
A joke is enough for you to not find other groups other than those that were rude? You can’t expect to get into any group and any point.
I swapped my spec to a role in high demand even though it wasn’t my #1 choice, I learned to how play it, got enchants from friends, spent money gemming it, all to get priority on nethers when I formed groups. But the dps that complain and moan and throw tantrums over not being entitled to join dungeon groups at any time without putting in any effort whatsoever are not the entitled ones? Do you realize how silly you sound when you call a person spending effort, time, and gold to do something an “entitled” player. But a dps that demand being able to only click a single button to get to roll on loot, no matter what they do in the dungeon groups or how they prepare for it, is somehow not.
Player sub count didn’t start dropping until after RDF was introduced, just saying.
And? I don’t have any choice of who goes to the bar when I go out. I still socialise with 'em.
