Player/server identity - This is interesting because while it does not detract directly from server identity it does so indirectly. Levelling introduces you to the world. Its hardships, problems, struggles and so on. Your interactions with this world change it for other players.
PVP Realms - This is especially important on PVP realms. Where lvling/grinding comes with its own set of challenges. Sometimes players will murder u on sight. Hey its part of the game. Very few will corpse camp though and only ever known it to happen once where it bordered on griefing.
So what does this have to do with boosting ? - Well when you already have a character on the realm, its actually okay, not great but okay. You have made your place in the world. You have suffered and that makes the 60 grind all the sweeter when u get there.
So if boosting is okay for people who have 60s, why does it bother me when people who donât have 60s boost. They have not earned the right to be here and by boosting it detracts from everyone who has had to suffer the 1 to 60 grind. Everyone elseâs experiences mean less because people can boost.
Then blizzard wonders why their player base is so hostile but fails (or more than likely does not care) to see that they actively made the game worse for said player base and the thing that really pushes it over the edge for me. It wonât change, I donât even think this rant matters. Though for what its worth, I hope my objections have been duly noted.
Cause blizz are whalers now. Literally was chatting with some guildies 3 days ago and said. 100% blizz will push for tokens in TBC. The boost was only the beginning. Now we have the whole tbc token scandal. 100% they will see how much money they made from wow and it will just be world of boosting. It wonât stay one per account for long.
Blah blah blah, like 99 % of people probably played WoW already and know the game very well, there will be only a very very small portion of people that need âintroduction to the gameâ. TBC is Outland anyway and you canât boost yourself through that!
I donât like the boost either, but what you just sad is so wrong. Sorry to let you down, but nobody cares about your experience except you and your friends. Also everyone has earned the right to be there as long as they pay their monthly subscription.
Boost is bad cause it opens the gate to the rest of the transactions.
its simple; make prepatch so short that a normal person cant level 1-60 and offer expensive boost as a solution.
and since nobody wants to be 60 without a mount, add a mount for even more money.
they dont care if its good or bad for the game and seeing how many people bought the boosts they must think its a good thing that people like.
I just came back to wow for TBC, been playing on private serveers for 9 years and had no intention of leveling a character from 1-60. So im glad, the only thing i wished would be different is the amount of gold people will bring to outland. Running around with 25 gold on a boosted character and 60% mount will not be in my favor
Yep, you are 100% right. Classic gave a kind of feeling of authenticity that you donât really get in any other mmo anymore. Perfect strangers, just from being 60, at least they had put in that grind and I respected them for it. I knew how much time and heart they had invested in the game, same as I did. And the word âjourneyâ, cliche that it might be, kept popping up in conversation. Not just a game, something more tangible.
I know, I know. Nobody cares about my experience and why should I care about anyoneâs experience. Itâs their money, itâs their time, itâs their life. Why should I hate that someone else is having fun. Yes. I know.
As someone whoâs leveling a Night Elf Druid the normal way, it feels bad knowing that everyone is skipping the leveling process. For me, this ruins the integrity of the game and the established rules that you have to level up a character and invest time in it before reaching max level. It cheapens the experience and makes it feel like a pay 2 win private server.
I think leveling is a core part of the game and especially important in Classic wow. Now you can just dish out a few bucks for a high level character, and that ruins the authentic feeling of the game.
No I donât, I couldnât care less about people buying in game things for real money. Retail sucks because itâs just bad gameplay, not that because people buy stuff⌠but hey thatâs me
In phycology they have this concept of in groups and outgroups. People bond and form groups based on many things. What forms a group could be, the love of gaming or what ever. One of the things people donât understand is that mutual struggle is also one of these factors that form groups. Wow does a great job of this, or it use to until they moved to what we see is retail today. Its why many players feel a loss of community in retail but donât know how to articulate it. The horde or alliance feel like a real menace in the world because they can attack at any time. Creating this need for friends and grouping. By boosting people you get rid of that. You earn the right to be part of the world because you understand the need for friends and other players. The value of those people means more to you because they are part of your experience. Its why for all of its content and shine, retail feels empty and dead. People have no value to one another anymore.
For me, authentic feeling of the game is much more ruined by players and it lasted for whole 2 years.
No shop mount, no 58 boost can even come close to pvp bracket and devilsaur mafia, paying for no gank mafia, worlds buffs meta, AQ event cross faction colaboration, fp camping, gold buying by whole guilds etc.
This is a good point but itâs an old game and there are no dangers in it anymore, especially not while leveing 1-50. Everyone knows the game in and out. But you are right about retail, itâs too easy to level up so people donât feel the need to help each other.
I aways said I wasnât gonna pay for boost. ButâŚ
Iâve already levelled 6 chars to 60 in classic by own own fair hand.
Been playing a little gnome mage for a bit as an alt and forgot how much I loved it. Decided that actually, out of all the classes Iâve ever played since classic back in the day mage is the one that I never really levelled past vanilla.
So thought screw it. Iâm gonna make mage my main in TBC.
So yeah, I bought a boost. Just levelled it 58-60 and am ready for maining it in TBC.
TBH, after levelling 6 lvl 60âs already Iâm pretty much as âinvestedâ in the game as I can already get surely?
Boost is not bad for the game ⌠simple as that. I lvled soo much I donât care and not interested lvling characters so for player like me boost is OK because I care of end game content and I donât care and donât want to lvl up in same zones I did lvl up for 15 years + private servers. So option to skip all that boring lvling is cool option for me and players like me. If you donât like it just donât buy it, just like deluxe edition you classic andy.
It is bad for the game though. Leveling is a crucial part of World of Warcraft, and being able to skip it impacts all the players who plays legit, and it ruins the authentic feeling of the game. These quality of life changes are what alienated many of the old players from retail wow, and what made us miss vanilla / tbc in the first place.
