The Dracthyr are a bit lame, aren't they?

I’m not talking about the Evoker class here. It has issues, but it does bring some innovative gameplay unlike Demon Hunters, whilst also stealing Monk mechanics just like Demon Hunters. So I guess it’s fine, the new class is okay.

No, I’m strictly speaking about the new dragon race here.
They don’t look very good. You’re stuck in that skinny lizard form in combat, and the visage form isn’t that great either.

Having huge wings on your back 24/7 in a game where you spend 95% of your time running on the ground also feels awkward. The wings should have a retractable option in my opinion.

Their lore is also meh and you just know that, just like the Vulpera or the Pandaren, their role will be non-existent in the next expansions.

All in all, while the new class is welcome, this race was really not required.

Yep, they’re going to be hard to find a place for in the story going forwards into new expansions.

I was excited when I heard rumours of a dragon race coming to the game before DF launched but I feel completely underwhelmed by the rainbow lizards and the way that they have been implemented.

Yes. This race “could” look cool. But it doesn’t, it is underwhelming as you said.
My biggest issue is probably the wings. They really look out of place and cumbersome.

I’d enjoy this race more if it looked more like the Saurok models from Mists of Pandaria.

I like the ‘skinny lizard’ form. I never switch out of it.
I agree that visage forms are meh. They should have given the dracthyr the ability to pick any race from their chosen faction for their visage form, exactly as the dragons themselves do (although without aligning with a faction).

Seems fine to me. Dragons don’t retract their wings when they’re on the ground either.

This is the case for new races in general. They’re a feature of the expansion that introduces them and later become just one of many races.

I don’t like the class much. I’m not a healer, and I find both dev and augvoker quite boring. I like the race, though, and I look forward to it being expanded to more classes in the future.

I feel the same way. My daughter on the other hand loves them, she’s been recreating them on different realms for fun. I figured it’d be for the visage form but nope, she doesn’t care for that.

I don’t get it, but apparently tastes differ

I hate the idea of the wings covering all the gear from the back. They also all look alike partly because of it.

Retracting wings should be a must in the future. And no I don’t like the model at all it’s so NOT WoW, it looks like some generic fantasy thing

I wish they could actually use the wings and just fly. The Soar racial is pathetic, just let them fly, using dragon riding mechanics with Vigor and everything.

they look like ripped from a different game and don’t belong to warcraft universe

They look and feel unfinished.

But so do Vulpera and Nightborne.

I don’t like them too, that’s also the reason why I tried an evoker for the intro scenario but when it was over, I just deleted the character and never played an evoker again. Not being able to see transmog on my main form it’s a big no for me, as well as only having one class available. It’s not my cup of tea.

I get that some may like it, but I think you need to have a very specific interest in that race. I think usually the most liked races are the most generic looking ones (as well as good looking) like elves and humans, because you can paint your very own character onto them, and not receive a strict background from elsewhere. That really narrows the immersion, unless you’re only in for the gameplay in which case you should be just fine.

I feel like that’s also why Blizzard barely includes exotic races in future stories, because it’s difficult to think outside of their specific environment. Humans, elves and to an extent orcs on the other hand, can fit comfortably in every story.

I mean they are folded when you don’t use them, also

The uptime on hover is pretty generous, I mean I spend most of my time hovering and in fact my Dracthyr is flying/using its wings.

But yeah the race is very lame. The armor customization options they got instead of transmog (dragon form) is very limited and I had a very hard time making mine look somewhat decent. If we aren’t getting anything else customization wise I would like the ability to hide shoulders and belts in dragon form only.

The visage form is also very lame. I don’t like the Belf male model, but I can tolerate the human female model. Would have been way cooler if we could choose from any race (with some draconic modifications ofc) to be the visage form.

They could have added Drakonid as an alternative evoker dragon-form, and let people choose the race of the visage form themselves. The visage form should have just been customization-upgrades to the existing races instead of something new. I feel like they worked hard here, but didn’t work smart at all. An acceptable solution would have been very very easy, and I feel like their mind was not focused on their customers, but rather on what the creatives there liked themselves.

Gameplay is nice but i guess the story is not super interesting.

i dislike augmentation though.

No, I love them. I’ve always wanted to play a dragon type race. I mean it’s a dragon. I love their customisation and their story. Their run is a bit silly, granted. However, I hate evoker, I just can’t play it for the life of me so when they allow more classes to Dracthyr, then I shall have a hoard of them.

The new race was welcome for me, the new class not so much. I just want all races, all classes now.

I agree, altho the lines aren’t always very clear on what ‘fits’ and has this immersive space, and what does not. I think that also boils down to individual taste, as an example for some rp-ers DH’s are very inspirational while to others they simply clash pretty much anywhere unless the place is drenched in demons

But I get what you say, and personally I agree.

I think the walk really got to me. I wanted to try to convince myself that they could be badass, but every time I see them walk I just can’t get past that. The wings also play some part in this.

I stilll remember seeing the leak of that red dracthyr with no armor or horns etc doing flame breath and i was like “no god damn way this goofy lizard is an actual new race”

Yet here we are

That sums up my feeling on it

it looks weird
but man its so fun to play

my Dev evoker is a blast … at least for PvP, High mobility, big damage, utility , self healing off the charts

Soar Racial should be a flying mount form though…

They take a lot of space. And since there is no wing customization (fin, bones, torn, skeletal, hidden…) it really makes it obvious that it’s just one Dracthyr model - and they all look alike as a result, regardless of color customization.
