Indeed i don’t think you have anything to worry about. As far as the Warcraft IP goes alliance vs horde will be a thing again eventually.
I remember Ion himself saying in interview that AvH is core to the warcraft IP and it will not be gone forever but will take a back seat as they focus on other stories.
Do not confuse this with our characters being exclusively horde or alliance. As i said our characters are separate from the factions lore wise and i see faction conflict working better by decoupling our races from that decision and rather make it a player decision within the game. This cause of the player faction imbalance and again making content for all players and not just a portion. But that’s just me speculating.
I can also see it come back after a decent time skip. But, again there are population issues to bring into consideration.
The problem (Beyond AvH just being a completely played out story cliché) is the population imbalance (At least at the higher end of content), splitting the playerbase does more bad to the game than AvH ever did good to it.
The only way a war between any factions can work is if it’s done the Scryer/Aldor way, you pick a faction (Which is a free choice, separate from your character’s race), each faction has unique content, maybe some kerfuffle between them to give the two PvP-ers who care about lore a reason to fight, but it doesn’t affect guilds or instanced content, that might work, but exhuming the smelly, beaten-to-paste dead horse that is “Alliance vs Horde” for yet another go is just… words fail me to express how lame and ludicrous that would be at this point.
People being able to be either faction in one guild has had a bit of an impact. People are free to play whatever class they like now and still raid/m+.
We don’t have full cross faction functionality yet though.
Unlike when we united in Vanilla to stop Ragnaboss and KT, or TBC when we united to stop Illidan and gang, or in WotLK when we stopped a bunch of Dragons, an Old God, and Arthas, or in Cata when we united to stop Ragnaboss, Deathwing and all of his extended family, or in MoP when we united to stop well the Horde, or in WoD when we united to stop the other Horde, or in Legion when we united to stop the Legion, or in BfA when we united to stop Tentacle mommy and Tentacle dad, or in SL when we united to stop Warchief gone rogue 5.8 and The Nipple master… But I swear guys this time we crossed the line when we united to stop discount Deathwing.
