I’m in the exact same situation as you and I have also contacted GMs several times regarding this. Some were clueless, some just plainly gave wrong information (told me to abandon the quest and I would be able to obtain the item again).
What seems to be the problem is that the GMs no longer have the power to help us with item restorations that are outside of the self-service item restoration system that is currently used in retail and now also in Classic. The problem is that after a few weeks the items deleted/sold will no longer show up there. So we can’t restore them and they can’t restore them. I would argue that this is a breach of the “staying true to the authentic experience of classic wow” philosophy that blizzard has regarding classic wow, since GMs don’t have the same power as they did back in the days, the customer service imo is worse, and they have implemented a system that did not exist back then. This is one of several issues that makes me think blizzard are being hypocrites when it comes to #nochange as they apparently just change what is best for their convenience and not what is right or reasonable. The customer service in classic is more or less non-existent with almost bot-like replies and unknowledgeable representatives.
I wish they would be more transparent and give us more information about their thoughts and updates about actual changes within the game. Lately there has been a lot of stuff piling up that has made me and others really fed up with blizzard and I am not sure if I want to keep playing a game where customers are treated like dollar signs and not respected at all. Warcraft III: Reforged is the latest example.
Anyway just wanted to say I feel with you, and frankly I think they should get their sh*t together and provide a certain minimum service for all players. I am very disappointed and ashamed on their behalf.
This is just the 0.1% of things that are going wrong in WOW (and overall in Blizzard r.n.), but if we cannot make it happen for something so small, how we can hope to have bigger changes?
Bigger changes can be actually useful and important unlike some small changes that dont affect the gameplay at all and are only requested by a few people.
Yup, but bigger changes requires time, changes like this one can be seen like a workbench to test if Blizz still care about our opinions
If they don’t care about a trivial thing like this, how we can think that they care about BG balance, botting, player care, ecc… (that requres a lot of effort and time).
"The WoW Classic team has been working hard to authentically recapture the original World of Warcraft experience for adventurers old and new . Our approach to Customer Support for WoW Classic is built around upholding the integrity of that experience, while helping you with issues that keep you from playing." (Source: WoW Classic Customer Support and You)
Just quoting this here for people to see. They say they have been working hard to authentically recapture the original WoW experience, and that their approach to customer support is built around upholding the integrity of that experience.
The customer support via in-game tickets which was used back in original WoW has changed. The experience now is that it is much harder to get in contact with a GM when you need help. Most replies are automated/robot-like, and the representatives are much less knowledgeable.
GMs do not have the same capacity/powers now as they are unable to restore items by for example checking logs and verify if you are eligible for an item restoration or not.
It seems to me that the WoW Classic team is either a) Outright liars who claim to have been working hard to achieve something which they obviously have not. b) Ignorant about what the experience was like and therefore cannot replicate it. c) Delusional and think they are actually providing us with the experienced customer service and support as back in the days. d) Hypocrites who do whatever they like as long as it profits them.
